So only today Wireless Charging, Bezeless displays, Amoled technology and higher than retina dpi becomes relevant....it was a useless feature before.

A physical home button was a must before but is now irrelevant!!

Yes.
I'm returning my Essential PH-1 and buying the X.
It means I have to go back to an LG G3 for almost 2 months.
I smashed the screen on my iPhone 7 about a month ago. First time I've ever cracked a screen in the 9 years I've owned an iPhone. I've been holding off getting the screen fixed thinking I would be getting a new phone next Friday, but it looks like I might have to bite the bullet and get it repaired now...

X is 10 in roman numerals

oh I know. I just thought it was actually "x" like the "SE" was special edition. For some reason I didnt think it would actually stand for 10. So next year we get a 9 and 11?

It is just an odd naming scheme. 7S, 7S plus, and 8 would have made much more sense. Or give the X the SE style of naming.

The new watches look cool, but that may be because I don't have an Apple Watch. Maybe one day.

Anyway, I think the X is ugly. And the 8 looks very similar to the 6s and 7.
Yeah, I also don't own an Apple Watch and the new cellular feature makes the Apple Watch Series 3 something significantly different and better than previous versions. Instead of the Apple Watch feeling "optional", your iPhone itself becomes "optional" in some scenarios, like a short walk to the park or going to dinner. I'm finally interested.

Don't forget the $999 price point. That's Apple's favorite feature!

Your old phone still does what it does, but if you have the coin - upgrade as soon as possible. Remember, we all use these things every day of our lives. Enjoy the latest and greatest - life is too short to pinch pennies over essential life enhancing things like this. Just my opinion.
Essential Life enhancing???? Oxymoron much?

Have you not tried to unlock your TouchID phone with wet fingers, gloves on, or with a dusting of flour after baking? There are plenty of scenarios where TouchID fails and FaceID would be far superior.
Thank your for your comments. I truly appreciate your well-balanced views.

Still don't understand the hype of the curved corners. That's how you get black boxes on videos or get part of it cut off. Bad idea IMO. Also faceid is db, what if it's in the middle of the night and it's pitch black?
It has IR scanning (invisible light) so you don't have to turn the light on to unlock your phone in the dark

I am surprised the 6s and 6s Plus remain in the lineup.

With the different colors and capacities, this is a tremendous amount of SKUs.

With 12MB photos and 4K video, a 64GB phone will seem like 16GB capacities of just two years ago. The 256GB will be mandatory.

I was thinking the annual Upgrade Program would be reduce the sticker shock. But paying $56.16 per month for iPhone X 256GB and having to return it after a year will make me quite sad.

iPhone 8 Plus 256GB Upgrade Program is $45.75 monthly.

Other phones offer carrier financing but do not appear to be eligible for Apple Upgrade Program.

I'm curious. What would you suggest apple do with all the hardware that needs to be on the front of the phone? So many hate it (for the record, the notch is absolutely fine with me and I'm sure with most people who don't hate everything as the macrumors' folks do are also ok with it), I'd like to see just one of you haters come up with a workable solution since many of you are obviously smarter than apple. And If you come up with something better, Tim Cook will redesign the front of the phone before it's release.

I'm depending upon you, Enabledobject, to put your xxx where your xxx is and be constructive and offer a better solution. You can do it, if you try, I'm quite sure.

I would have preferred they hid it with software. Keep the status bar black at all times. It would have blended in really well with OLED. Also solves the problem of the notch obscuring video.

Just sold my 7+ yesterday, only to find out I'll have to spend twice that to get the iPhone X.

Damn.

My wife is struggling with a twice-repaired 6 that has a bad digitzer again....The X is simply out of the question. The 8 is a reach as well. I’m literally thinking about selling my 7+ and getting 2 6’s. Other than camera upgrades I don’t see alot of difference between a 6 and an 8? I know the difference is there, but I don’t see the value anymore...

a "night mode" or "dark mode" would by default have a black background. Just software

I may be misunderstanding what you didn't like. The middle notch is necessary because it houses hardware. All other phones just use a top bezel which goes all the way across, when the hardware just sits in the center. So there isn't really any way to get around this. I mean, you could put the camera on the bottom like the Mi Mix does, but that's terrible IMO.

Now if you are talking about the left and right side of the notch, then yeah I think that's fugly and a very poor design decision. Thankfully it can be altered with software so let's hope Apple comes to their senses, or that devs can change this.

As for FaceID. All those complaining about not being able to use it with sun glasses - simple solution.... use passcode! Strength, are we all really becoming that lazy and pretentious?

Never was a fan of faceid from the rumour days. But a company has to do what a company has to do. And if they couldn't get TouchID to work, they had no real choice for edge2edge!

Nice solution, never thought of it. Thanks for the heads up.

How did we ended up here a $1k phone. For years we let Apple do this to us. The pattern has already been established and it's going to be like forever. Every time Apple released a product with new feature it's no longer an evolution or improvement from the previous version. Instead it's a completely different product and it comes with a price. Instead of the product improving from the old model, they just decided to keep it and keep the price as well or slightly discounted it. From MacBook to iMac to iPad to iPhone and now even AppleTV. You would have thought a 4K is an improvement and a new feature. Nope it's completely a different product and it comes with the price. Same thing with Apple Watch an LTE would have been a improvement but they decided that this another completely different product. ‍♂️
