Apple decides SUNGLASSES don't exist.

"If your eyes are closed or you're looking away it's not gonna unlock." - Phil Schiller
yea, and what about nightclubs where they put stickers on both your front and back cameras!?
It's a pretty risky route they're taking here.. I can understand that they had to push it out now, and that technology just wasnt ready for touch ID under the scree - I'm absolutely sure they wanted to combine it and just just face ID as an additional layer of protection.

But I guess there will be no going back from this now anymore, can't see them add touch ID again next year again, especially now that theyve removed the idea of using your thumb on where the homebutton once was entirely from the concept of the phone. It better will work FLAWLESSLY. And about the sunglasses that's really a damn bad situation right there, just coing from a vacation in sunny italy and I was wearing them ALL THE TIME.

Dude just saying but you have years of history of message that kind of prove you are fighting apple since ever? Isn’t easier to let it go and just look at sonething else? Do you really love that much apple? It’s just a phone for xxxx sake focus on stuff you like, life is too short to focus and people and product that you dislike...you choice!

Okay, so you are unhappy about a user's comment on your favourite company. I can understand that.

But then going off the cliff, checking on someone's old comments, accusing them of a certain position (which they rightfully can choose, btw).

Then attacking them to choose a different product.

Let me be honest and repeat what you yourself have written:
"life is too short to focus and people and product that you dislike"

I just want to point out that we're finally here!

so who here has been put off by the price and is skipping?

Price isn't the issue. You're really talking about an extra $15-$20 per month on a carrier financing agreement. For most people in the market for this kind of smartphone, that isn't a dealbreaker.

The issue is that you simply aren't getting that much more for your money with an X v. an 8.

There is no way I'd buy one of these until its been proven in the field. I think Apple is taking a very big risk abandoning the TouchID for FaceID with no backup plan. One of my favorite features of the iPhone is TouchID. They just removed it. It would have been better for them to introduce FaceID while still leaving TouchID there somewhere... either on the back or side... as a transition device. I am expecting its not going to be as slick and quick as TouchID in its first iteration. For that reason alone, I would not buy one.

And as an FYI, my Surface Pro has facial authentication for Hello Windows and it works very well, so I'm definitely not opposed to facial... its just that I don't know that its as good as TouchID for a phone. I have to handle the phone to pick it up, so using a finger is not an extra step really. I can just imagine it getting confused too when i didn't want it to wake up and unlock.
Come on, you think Apple hasn't tested this to ad nausium. They stated over one Billion faces.

Apple may not always be first, but they sure perfect the implementation for most part. Something this different has been tried out for sure. Camera, infrared, and 30,000 spot point camera all data on phone secure enclave. I particularly liked the 3-D mask testing. Pretty sure this will blow away everyone else's facial/retinal recognition try's to date.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet. It does fast charging with USB-C.

Testing conducted by Apple in August 2017 using preproduction iPhone X units and software and accessory Apple USB-C Power Adapters (29W Model A1540, 61W Model A1718, 87W Model A1719). Fast-charge testing conducted with drained iPhone units. Charge time varies with environmental factors; actual results will vary.

I'm assuming this is "beta", and something that will be corrected on launch. But this to me is a big No No.

I'm not impressed by having a cutout in your media. However, i'm pretty sure this is probably just a render / demo picture and i'm hoping on iOS11 final release that they'll take care of this properly

I was right when I said Craig was going to demo the animojis while Phil would do the talking points for the phone. I called it. Still, the animojis is quite ridiculous. It's nice feature creep but that's about it for entertainment sake. The only cool thing is the alien grey's face. If my late friend had seen it, his jaws would drop. He would buy the phone for that due to his UFO conspiracy/X-Files obsession. But he's not alive today to see it.

So this animoji thing is pointless and trivial. It's a nice looking phone but the price point is ridiculous. Should've been about $600-700, for starters. I know it would conflict with iPhone 8 pricing but still. . .it's just awkward to release an 8 and then a 10 on the same day.

What I was afraid for. The notch actually intrudes when watching videos or full screen photos and indeed hides a part of it. It was even demonstrated doing that. Really bad.

Wait, really? I wasn't able to see the event but that's really disappointing if true. So part of the image or video appears in the "rabbit ears"? and gets cut off by the notch?

Wireless charging isn't gimmicky, but that God awful AR is...
With rapid charging using 29 watt power adapter, I'm not all that excited about wireless charging on a pad. Still have to plug pad in. And phone has to be on pad. Plugging in lightening connector has never been an issue for me. Plus when plugged in I can still use phone in bed.

Looks nice but way too big, I hope they one day give the iPhone SE the bigger-screen-slightly-larger-body treatment, till then it looks like I'll be switching to Android for a non-phablet flagship phone to replace my aging SE.

What they should have done a couple of years ago. I would've bought a 5.5 version of that exact design had they done it. Why they didn't go with that is beyond comprehension. I have the SE and it works great for me.

Thank you! As I said I don't like the high prices of the iPhone 8 and 8 plus and Xiaomi is offering the same with super Amoled and less bezels for around $ 400-500. Would be a hard sell for Apple in India and china and I can't wait for the numbers :D

I really wish you to be excited for your new xiaomi phone...not how others people phone can't sell.....it's a logic I get you, it's sad but I get it...I think

Apple has always gone above and beyond in their R&D, especially in the post-exploding phones era. FaceID not working 100% has the makings of being worse than the Samsung debacle in the it would affect a much larger number of people and open them to fraud. You can bet your ass that if Apple was confident enough to take TouchID away, that it's replacement is on par or better.

Also Apple doesn't really do the whole training wheels things...

Here’s Apple’s video on how developers should design for the X screen.

https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/fall2017/801/

Wow very interesting video. Good stuff about the safe area for devs, interesting to note that the safe area on the X isn't much larger than programming for the entire screen on the 7/8, you just get the illusion once the app is laid out and the apps elements continue outside of it.

Also interesting at about 6:20 Apple actually encourages devs to NOT black out the top, saying it makes apps feel "small, cramped and inconsistent with other apps" Something as moronic as this could ONLY have come from someone like Ive. So looks like the ears are something Apple loves and feels makes the app look larger, but in reality it just makes the app look like ****.

The BS, utterly self-congratulatory pseudo-benefactory tone of this was revolting. If Tim Cook believes half of what he says, he is delusional.
Apple as benefactor. Please.
Apple as humane, boon giver. Try not to laugh.
Apple as anything other than a pretentious, hypocritical cash machine, not so much.
Time to start looking around for other options.
Ones without the self-righteous nonsense of Apple.
I will try to learn to deal with Windows. Because this crap is intolerable.

I think you're bit extreme there but I have to agree that I'm too getting fed up with Apple's "larger than life" crap...

You started actually[/
Apple Event days are awesome on MR...the army of paid Samsung trolls mobilizes ASAP. Someone even criticized the clothing styles in the audience. Love it.
why you think there are people paid by Samsung to troll the iPhone X? You should remember that Samsung is fabricating the screen and every iPhone X not sold means less income to Samsung.
