Come on, you think Apple hasn't tested this to ad nausium. They stated over one Billion faces.

Apple may not always be first, but they sure perfect the implementation for most part. Something this different has been tried out for sure. Camera, infrared, and 30,000 spot point camera all data on phone secure enclave. I particularly liked the 3-D mask testing. Pretty sure this will blow away everyone else's facial/retinal recognition try's to date.

Are you saying that Apple tested this on 1 billion faces on the first pass? I don't buy it.

Sure, the 3D mask is nice but it's unnecessary. Consider Craig fumbled the Face ID once, consider him 2 out of 1 billion.

Swiping from the bottom with your thumb as shown in the presentation assumes you have a very flexible thumb. I personally can't do it. Plus you can't swim from the bottom one-handed while holding the phone in other positions whereas you can easily click the home button in the same scenario. Ergonomically this may be a no-go for me. It also don't take into account the impact some cases will have on the ease of the swipe. Most cases protrude above the glass in order to protect from impacts. Trying to swipe across the case and then glass from the bottom doesn't feel very good.

My thought is that Apple is charging a premium for the X model because of its significance (being the 10 anniversary phone) I would GUESS that next years and the years to follow, iPhones will settle back into a price point we are more accustomed to seeing.
It won't go down. Looking at the trend, base price is up.

Probably shouldn't point to 3 dead companies for your example of a better phone.

Apple almost died while having a better PC than Microsoft PC ;)

I'm referring to them cause they have much better and complete swipe functionality while Apple employs it only partially. And all the gestures you've seen on the today's demo came from those three dead companies, Apple did not come up with single swipe functionality of their own on iPhone X.

Point is that Apple wants you to swipe along the bottom edge which is fine but then in order to go back one screen you have to travel with your hand all the way up to the top of the screen to tap back button.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet. It does fast charging with USB-C.

Testing conducted by Apple in August 2017 using preproduction iPhone X units and software and accessory Apple USB-C Power Adapters (29W Model A1540, 61W Model A1718, 87W Model A1719). Fast-charge testing conducted with drained iPhone units. Charge time varies with environmental factors; actual results will vary.
29 watt power adapter does fast charge on my 7 Plus. Looks like they have now let the charging circuit in the 8 and X also accept Larger 61W and 87W power adapters. Phone charger circuit on 7 Plus treats those as if they were 5W if I remember correctly from article I read.

It's gonna be very interesting to see how this affects the iPhone line up moving forward. I think $1000+ is too much to be their only phone, so I would imagine they would need to continue offering a flagship phone at the $700 price point. I don't see them offering the iPhone 8 and iPhone X this year, and then next year only offer a successor to the X. I don't know if they means next year the X gets a significant price reduction or if they just continue to upgrade all three phones into their respective S models, and keep their displays as the differentiating factor.

Also, from a marketing standpoint Apple needs to eventually move away from their number system. This is probably their chance. Also, they can't release the iPhone X now and then a few years down the road, release the iPhone 10.

They're gonna have to release it as an 11 next year or call it the 2018 iPhone. That model would have to be $800 while iPhone X price should drop significantly to make it accessible for consumers to upgrade, probably around the $500-600 marker. They're going to want to if they decide to phase out 6/7/8 models.

Let me ask you this. If you are able to chose between two products where one product has better specs, less bezels, super Amoled screen and same quality build but cost around $ 500 and the other with inferior tech around $ 800. Which one should you chose?

I earn enough to buy the product I like, I focus on stuff I like...thanks

So Touch ID was one of my favorite features and I loved having wired headphones in my bag as a backup. Both are now gone. I feel like I am going to pay more to loss features I like. Maybe I will wait a few more years for my next phone. I used to buy a new phone every year, but since the 7 I feel like I would be giving up more than I gain. Maybe I am just getting old.

The dollar is 15-20% cheaper than a year ago, so for many it will be as expensive as last year.

I'm just referring to today. Even if Apple made it exactly the same price in the UK, today it would be £903. It's not radically less than what they are actually charging, and the exchange rate or currency drop isn't down to Apple.

I can already see divorce filing skyrocketting caused by those jealous wify's unlocking their husband's phones while they're sleeping (a lot easier than Touch ID)
Their eyes will have to be open for that to work which I guess is a safeguard that some Apple engineers with secrets themselves came up with. Of course wifey could grab hubby's iPhone, place it quickly in front of his face and then run into a room where she can lock herself in or into a vehicle to check out the contents on his phone.

I'm assuming this is "beta", and something that will be corrected on launch. But this to me is a big No No.

I'm not impressed by having a cutout in your media. However, i'm pretty sure this is probably just a render / demo picture and i'm hoping on iOS11 final release that they'll take care of this properly
Put black electrical tape on either side of notch to cover that part of screen. If it bothers you that much.

Why ? everyone wanted it and its the standard.

Everyone wanted it 7 years ago!!! There are other options now from a distance, not to mention the hypocrisy of bashing it these last couple of years and being late to adopt the standard.

How lame are they that it took them SO long to adopt it, but had the courage to move forward with no 3mm jack!

Am I the only person that thinks its time to get rid of A) The carrier/antenna details on the mail screen (who cares from call to call) B) The actual battery icon... You either have enough juice or you can get a message/notification that battery is low.

that has been my complain about the notch since the first rumor, and i hope if they do black out the sides of the notch they also put a black bar on the bottom of the phone to keep the symmetry.

I don't like the notch but can see why it had to be there. Perhaps the iPhone XI or XII will find a way to put all the sensors behind the screen.

Same goes for the loss of Touch ID. I hope Apple work out a way to still include it under the display to complement Face ID.

Other than that, perfect.
