What happened to Apple? They used to be 2-3 years ahead of the competition. Now they are 8+ years behind? Palm had inductive charging since 2009.

Apple is dead.

Go buy it, it was certainly successful!

Are you saying that Apple tested this on 1 billion faces on the first pass? I don't buy it.

Sure, the 3D mask is nice but it's unnecessary. Consider Craig fumbled the Face ID once, consider him 2 out of 1 billion.
What part of English do you not understand. They didn't say that out one billion one failed to open. They said chance of another face opening yours is one in a million. As opposed to one in 50,000 finger prints. The facial camera, point dot camera are checking more data points for comparison against stored data.

The one billion faces are the trials of different faces during development.

When I have wet fingers, fingerprint sensors often fails on first try. Bet if you had broken nose and black eye, the X might not recognize you at first.

Now all we need is AR glasses with front facing cameras for gesture controls and we are officially in Minority Report.

I'm curious. What would you suggest apple do with all the hardware that needs to be on the front of the phone? So many hate it (for the record, the notch is absolutely fine with me and I'm sure with most people who don't hate everything as the macrumors' folks do are also ok with it), I'd like to see just one of you haters come up with a workable solution since many of you are obviously smarter than apple. And If you come up with something better, Tim Cook will redesign the front of the phone before it's release.

I'm depending upon you, Enabledobject, to put your xxx where your xxx is and be constructive and offer a better solution. You can do it, if you try, I'm quite sure.
Just a smaller bar (as 5 billion people on the planet could imagine, except Joni)

You're not answering the question. You should read before writing.

I don't answer stupid question, but since I told you I buy what I like, it obvious I don't like xiaomi and even more obvious I have no interest in discussing why with you since I have no self convincing process to go trough.

Once again I hope your Xiaomi will make you hapier than the weak sale in India of a device you don't own, sell, like.

yea, and what about nightclubs where they put stickers on both your front and back cameras!?
It's a pretty risky route they're taking here.. I can understand that they had to push it out now, and that technology just wasnt ready for touch ID under the scree - I'm absolutely sure they wanted to combine it and just just face ID as an additional layer of protection.

But I guess there will be no going back from this now anymore, can't see them add touch ID again next year again, especially now that theyve removed the idea of using your thumb on where the homebutton once was entirely from the concept of the phone. It better will work FLAWLESSLY. And about the sunglasses that's really a damn bad situation right there, just coing from a vacation in sunny italy and I was wearing them ALL THE TIME.
Yeah, how dare they not think about these nightclub-visitors! They need all the protection they can get to keep the wife from the Photo's-app...

You're definitely the target group Apple is focusing on. Selling inferior tech for top notch prices so you're able to show the Apple logo

And you the target of chinese brands...selling random tech in a third party software...to save some bucks, and using the phone to stalk Apple site all day long.... envy is beast...

How do you know that? Did you play with it?

It's not even out yet.
Don't be such an *ss.. it has the best screen ever, a new updated iOS, new hardware and dedicated GPU, ready for AR, and list goes on. Do you think it is worse then or do you always have to play with things first before getting an idea how it is positioned against its pre-decessor? Should be difficult to get a steady relationship then...

I don't know what's more stupid. Buying inferior tech at top notch price or better for less, lol. To your information I don't have or plan to buy an Xiaomi nor iPhone X.

They're gonna have to release it as an 11 next year or call it the 2018 iPhone. That model would have to be $800 while iPhone X price should drop significantly to make it accessible for consumers to upgrade, probably around the $500-600 marker. They're going to want to if they decide to phase out 6/7/8 models.
I can't see the iPhone X dropping $500-$600 next year. The iPhone 7 was only dropped $100 today. Also that gets real wonky if this is the iPhone X(10), and then next year they release a successor to the iPhone 8 named the iPhone 11 and an iPhone X successor with who knows what name. Marketing plays a huge role in what products get released, and I think Apple may have backed itself into a marketing corner here. My best guess is they'll probably drop the X to around $849 (only $50 more than the 8 Plus), and offer an iPhone X2 at $999 (and continue the pattern as X3, X4, etc.). But then I don't know how they handle the 4.7 and 5.5 models.

This was the most underwhelming keynote ever
I really liked it. I thought the intro to the Steve Jobs Theater was nicely done and I thought the building itself was gorgeous. Opening with Steve's own words was beautiful.

I thought the presentations were more dignified and streamlined than usual. Phil didn't annoy me for a change. Eddy was low key, almost too low key. He did well.

The products impressed me as I contemplated the technology behind them. I could imagine the countless hours and all the hard work that went into this lineup. And appreciate that they did this while staff had a huge move to the new building looming over them. I've seen my husband's coworkers undertake such an endeavor and can appreciate the attention it saps from all employees.

The Series 3 Apple Watch presentation stole the show for me. I was absolutely stunned that I can get a cellular enabled Watch that's roughly the same size of the Apple Watch I have now. I already have a cellular enabled Samsung Watch. It's big. Really big. Samsung was first but they weren't the most graceful with the technology.

I just got a Series 2 in the spring so I wasn't planning on getting a new Apple Watch at all. I damn sure am planning on it now. My husband was really set on his Gear S3 Frontier Watch and Apple finally stole him back from Samsung with this Watch.

Iphone 8 and 8 Plus really impressed me. Phil did a nice job presenting them. I usually can't stand Phil, but he did well and didn't come across arrogant and defensive like he did last year. And I think this time Apple legitimately has something to be proud of.

Same for Eddy. Apple TV looks sweet. That wasn't on my family's radar screen either but now we all want it for Christmas.

Iphone X does look silly with video playing behind that notch. But I am impressed by what they are doing with facial recognition. This is the first generation, so it's not flawless but I am really pleased with what they've made and fascinated by the technology behind the implementation. This is not my Samsung's facial recognition.

There was no musical act this year, which can be hit or miss. I think they did fine using a musical intro with The Beatles.

Overall it was tasteful and understated compared to past presentations but we did still get some lighthearted fun with animoji. Craig made the best out of that presentation. I can't wait to turn myself into talking kitteh. And talking poop when I'm in a crappy mood.

Wireless charging isn't gimmicky, but that God awful AR is...
You don't understand the power of it yet, give it some time. It will bring information to you immediately, like the demo they showed on the baseball game. This will have a tremendous impact on the way our society works. Worst case scenario: only the p*rn will entertain you in the near future.

I'm hands on so it's easier to get a better idea of how it works in person. And I was serious in that it's not even out yet. Sure, it looks nice on surface but to say it's the best phone on the day of its unveiling is too early to judge.

Wow Nilay Patel’s first look video at the Verge was quite positive. No mention of the camera bump. And little about the notch either. My guess is the notch is this years camera bump. Something people complain about but get used to and then don’t even think about it.

Nilay must be blind then, because notch is ugly af. Who the **** wants to watch videos on that device or game or whatever in landscape?

It looks like a toy! The glass is either too thick or the screen is not as close to the glass as it could or should have been. The glare from all the shine is what is making it have that toy look. Oh well I'm still a happy camper with my Note 8.

Even with Samsung supplying Apple with the panels Apple did a poor job with the overall execution of them on this device. The iPhone 8 almost looks more premium than the X but that is till you look at the front and see an old dated screen and white bezels.

That baseball game seemed very gimmicky. Extremely cool, but still gimmicky. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt though, Apple hasn't done me wrong yet.

Has everyone skipped over the crappy thing about this model... 64GB and 256GB models? Seriously? 64GB?

That baseball game demo was not needed. If you're at the stadium, you don't need AR to see what's going on. That's what the scoreboard is for. It has all the info you need right there.

As far as 'adult entertainment' goes, that's been on AR/VR already right now. Not in the near future. NOW.

Gonna get the 8 Plus to hold me over until the X. Gonna just stick with 64GB.

I think the X is a great phone. I didn't think the notch would be a problem, but I don't want my photos/videos to look like a chunk has been taken out.
