Looks like battery life is also slightly worse than the 7 Plus.

Forget it, I'm out.
I am disappointed by that but it's not a deal breaker for me. I've got Qi chargers all over the place that will help. I just need to get one installed in my car.

I agree. I never even imagined this would be a thing, I just assumed when you watched a video the notches would be black and the video would extend to the cut out, not passed it. I don't know who at Apple thought blocking a portion of your video with a black box was a good idea, but someone needs to reevaluate their employment. Granted, most movies on iTunes and videos on YouTube are filmed in 16:9 so I'm sure this won't be as big an issue as we're making it, but I can guarantee that the videos you film will take advantage of the notches.

Sidenote, I like how Apple strategically demoed clips where it's darker in those areas so it was less noticeable.
happy ?

Anyone else miss when Apple didn't intentionally screw their customers with iPhone storage? It used to be 1x, 2x and 4x. Now it's just 1x and 4x. I don't come close to needing 256 GB for a phone, but I'd love to have more than 64 GB. Leaning toward the iPhone 8 at these stupid prices. Considering I upgrade every 2 years, $1000+ is a bit too much to ask I think. Plus the X doesn't launch for another 2 months.
So you would upgrade to 2x but are miffed that 4x upgrade costs same. o_O

To be fair, I think that Face ID failed the first time because he had just turned the phone on. It says in the image 'Your passcode is required to enable Face ID.' So it might be the same rule as Touch ID that you need to enter your passcode the first time you turn your phone on in order for Touch ID to work?
He should've tried it before going on stage. I know tech can fail (I'm a developer), but this could've been avoided so easily. He didn't make Face ID very convincing. He blew it completely. I think it'll work better in real life.

I have to say, I'm actually getting excited now. I just looked up the physical dimension of the new phone and they aren't that much larger than the smaller iPhone 6, 7, or 8.

Yeah, the physical to display ratio is fantastic, some of the hands on videos show some 6/7 and 6+/7+ size comparisons and I'm stoked for higher density/more display area vs. a plus in package just _slightly_ bigger than a non-plus model.

Wireless charging mat still has one wire

They also releasing a wireless, wireless charging mat charger.

... it's wired.

Watched the entire keynote earlier. Have to say I'm more impressed by the Watch more than anything else. I was waiting for it to be untethered to the phone and I'm glad I held out. I'll most likely get one, but maybe not at launch.

Been holding on to my 6+ and was looking to upgrade this year expecting a big leap for the 10-year anniversary. My impressions are mixed. I was hoping for a re-design, but what was shown instead is kind of meh. I like the X with the glass and stainless steel (and no white bezels!), but that notch??? Basic design should have clicked in someone's head and said, "hey, just run the black strip continuous in one line - it will look better to the eye. The hill/notch/bump is distracting." And I'm not sold on FaceID. Cool concept technologically, but I will have to see. TouchID is much easier and I'm sure they will get it to work eventually. And Animojis? Guess it's a first step for the many uses that will come with FaceID... but $1150????

Don't want an 8+ because I'll feel like I have the same phone, although the camera - that I desperately need upgraded due to horrendous low light performance - should be a marked improvement. Was hoping to go full screen this time around. Like the improvements I'd be getting overall...

Just torn overall and will have to consider which phone I'll go for. May even wait a bit to decide instead of jumping on launch - and that will definitely be a first for me.
$1150 is insanely pricey for a smartphone, and in all honest the iPhone X doesn't really offer much to justify that price point. I keep saying the distaste for the notch is going to be like the iPhone 6 antenna thing, where everyone thought they were ugly but it really wasn't a big deal, but this is so in your face. I mean for the most par, it's not a huge deal. I can get behind the notches during normal use like iMessage and safari, but for landscape videos it's really jarring that it extends all the way. I think it would definitely look better if they just took advantage of the darker blacks of an OLED display and made the notches match the notch.

Nah, I've been a developer for 25+ years, across desktop apps, web, mobile, AR/VR, and there's _always_ some potential for a misstep in a demo, I don't care if you're a 5 person shop or Apple. As usual, Craig's recover was lighting fast :D

Nead a battery powered wireless charger. Truely no wires attached.

Unimpressed. That indent or whatever on the top ruins literally everything. Game UI cut off, video cut off, interface itself cut off. Pathetic.

Yeah, that notch would be as annoying as a big strand of hair caught on the projector lens during a cineplex movie.

If they still couldn't get the Touch ID to work under the glass yet, why not just wait? Now we know why they gave us the animated Emoji's based on our faces--to sell the notch and their half baked Face ID.

Guess they have the research data that show millions will buy anything they offer at whatever price.
