Howwww much??!

I’ve always defended paying a premium for Apple stuff in the past, but this blows my mind lol

I felt guilty buying my Bose QC35s for £250, and they’re almost perfect for me. How can these possibly be £300 better?? Mad.
I would feel guilty buying the Bose QC35's period. IMO they are junk. Cheap build quality.

As far as I can tell these don’t have an option for wired usage, am I right? There is a Lightning/USB-C cable in the box though, but I’m guessing that’s just for charging. Unless it could also make it act like USB-C headphones. Also, why use Lightning to charge and not USB-C?

If someone has more information or I’m wrong please let me know.
The answer to your question is two posts before yours.

But Max is a stupid name. And Apple really doesn’t know how to read a room. Who’s gonna spend $550 on headphones in 2020? Unless you’re able to pay for these in installments like the iPhone?
If you don't think that lots of people will buy these then you're kidding yourself. The price makes it a status symbol. They could have sold for $399 but now they can sell fewer and make the same $ while elevating the brand into designer territory. That's their strategy. They're not hurting for $.

I'm okay with the price tag.

But if and only if it's lossless on Wireless (at least 44khz 16 bit without any lossy compression, as I'll use it with Tidal)

But if for this price tag I get a 256kbps AAC recompression as with the standard airpods, then no, thanks, I wouldn't even buy for $100.
In a blind test of 580 streaming iTunes 256Kbps vs a lossless audio format, only one person was able to reliably distinguish between the two formats. The vast majority of people, far in excess of 99%, could not reliably differentiate. This sample of people varied across a wide spectrum from youg to old, people with cheap and expensive audio equipment, and normal vs trained musicians. There are other tests like this all with the same result. One test even focussed on classically trained musicians, and presented them a high quality MP3 vs WAV, and again, they could not reliably demonstrate they can tell the difference.

Show me a pair of professional studio headphones for $550 that offers all the features that Apple's new Air Pod Max's offer? I'm waiting?
Studio monitors have things called wires. It's been a minute since I worked in the industry, but I try to keep up with trends. I have not seen a pair of wireless studio monitors in use.... yet.

Helmet I understand but collars? WTH you’re talking about?

Coats. They have high collars when zipped up etc in winter and they hug the neck. When you turn your head with AirPods the stems hit the collar and flick the earpiece out. True.

They won't be though. Apple doesn't bother supporting LDAC. That makes the price absolutely outrageous. Unless they had llve introduced new hardware these will be limited to AAC.

Sure , but the comments are far from sensible , I can post hundreds of audio/video products that are very expensive vs the budget options , but they still have a market , are apple allowed to try and design and sell products in a more high end market? if they can offer a competitive product in the 550$ price range headphones , then they will sell , if they cant , they wont , but why so many negative posts ? its obvious the product is not meant to be a mass production product like the airpods or the iphone , it is meant to be a Halo product , that shows what Apple can do at the highend , and as any Halo product , trickle down the features to the less expensive models down the road , and of course have lower volume.

Folks here behave like they were ready to press the BUY if it was 399$ and backdown now its 549$ , when in fact most of the comments about the price are by ppl that never buy headphones for hundreds of dollars and were never the target audience for this in the first place.

I get your point but assumptions don’t help either. Let’s not throw all criticism into one pot and label anybody who objects the price as poor. Not healthy for a debate. Measure people on what they actually to write not what someone thinks their motives are.

Oh I agree if you don’t like to be in walled garden then it’s not worth it. I just wanted to have good AirPlay speakers so it’s perfect for me. I even tried Devialet, already went to their listening room. Turns out it’s hard to set it up for AirPlay. HomePod sound (the original one) is actually undistorted just like Devialet but with 1/3 the price (for the original price) so you can see why I’m perfectly happy with the price.

Yeah, I envy you for enjoying a product so much!

There are these... They start at $995.95, and go to the 'special offer' price of $1,095.95. Some 'special offer'.

Comparing apples with dragonfruit. Those A20s and the much lighter and compact ProFlight series are aimed at professional pilots for long haul noise-cancelled communications. Very different market from prosumer or audiophile music lovers.

Has anyone located a material list for these? I cant find any information regarding the materials used for the smart case, ear cushions, mesh canopy and headband.

I've hated on a lot of things I can afford because they appear to have one main, or secondary goal: To raise the prices of competing products.

Apple comes out with these, at $550. Bose comes out with a pair for $600. Someone else comes out with some for $700. Laugh if you want, but it happens in capitalism all the time. Driving the prices higher is sad...

I am not sure why you’d assume that I’m laughing?

I'm still blown away by the sound quality of the original AirPods. I must be a Lo-fi-ophile. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyway, the price of the AirPods Max will surely decrease over time. Just remember how much the original MacBook Air cost on launch day. 😬

It all about audio quality and comfort! Looks is cool but it the other two are not there, you are wearing something you hate even if it is stylish and overpriced!
I don't dislike the Bose just because of the crap build quality. They are very limited in terms of different music types and I've gotten headaches from the overbearing active noise cancelling. They don't hold a candle to the Beoplay headphones or the Bowers & Wilkis, both of which have amazingly great build quality and are designed for many different music types with great soundstage.

Really. This has never happened to me. How quick you turn your head?
