What always blows my mind is why Americans use credit card. Its much easier to use debit. Why would you ever want to pay banks fees?

because they spend money they don't have

Ooooor... because they want points? For example I have a capital one venture card with 480,000 points which I plan to use for a vacation to Hawaii next summer. I have not paid a single penny in bank fees since I pay my bill in full every month, and I had the $35 annual fee waived for life as part of a promotion when I opened the card. So I get a free vacation and I have not paid the bank a single penny. Can't do that with a debit card.

And not only that, they’re now getting even more aggressive at restricting features to the US only such as with ECG on the apple watch.

You have got it the wrong way around. Apple can’t launch their ECG in other countries because each has it’s own health regulations. They have chosen to focus getting regulatory approval in the US. Other countries (the UK included) would likely require additional and extensive testing before it can pass.

Banking systems and laws are also vastly different from country to country.

Most places do fine but the US Postal Service offices will outright refuse if there's no signature on the card.

I like this card. It's a nice idea to further adoption of contactless payment. Sure, I have cards that offer similar or higher percentage back, but that's only if you use the physical card - the amount back goes down if you use Apple Pay. I wouldn't cancel my other cards but I'll definitely be looking into this.
How so? All USPS ive been too you put the card in yourself and they never see it.

I don't know if places in the US still write numbers down but from my experience in Scandinavia a merchant would never write down card numbers for manual processing. The terminal always processes an in person transaction. If the system can't connect to the payment network it stores the transaction until it can connect again.

The only case I can think of for card numbers would be online which are secured by various means including 3D Secure. But of course Apple Pay can be used on various websites, as can services such as Masterpass or even Paypal.

The use of a card number as a transaction facilitator could be slowly coming to an end.
Here in Mexico some merchants use a standalone card reader (such as verifone’s vx 520 or ingenico’s move 2500) to process the card payment, and then manually record the sale on their computer. And a few of them still use older sales software programs that still require the merchant to manually enter some or all of the card details before the sale can be recorded. It kinda defeats the purpose of using apple pay and those merchants will need to upgrade their systems.

Looks cool... but I can't give up my United card... I'm way too dependent on airport lounges and miles for booking flights

That’s exactly the problem they’re too US centered. They should have started the process to get regulatory approval for ECG in a few other countries at the same time when they started it in the US. Then those other countries would be closer to getting the ECG app by now. They didn’t and now those users will have to wait much longer.

Not all Americans use credit cards for debt. I use credit cards for cash back and then pay them off in full each month so no interest charges. This allows me to get anywhere from 2-5% back depending on the card. It also provides better purchase protection as it’s not tied to my bank account. Lastly, on credit cards I use they extend the manufacturer’s warranty and provide benefits such as accidental damage within the first 90 days covered.

So, for me it makes more sense to use a credit card. Been doing this for probably 7-8 years now.

Word! I put every single purchase I can on different credit cards to maximize my point earning. I never carry a balance.

Plus it's my bank account that would get drained if there's fraudulent activity on the debit card. Even if it gets restored eventually what a hassle that would be. No thank you.

It seems that all Tim Cook-Apple innovations has become into financial and services (Apple Card, Apple Arcade. Apple News).

So much for Apple innovations, this past week of pathetic hardware upgrades showed us how little Apple cares about product innovation. Only thing they care is about is about ripping more money out of users and content owners (publishers) through services.

When I was in the US last year I couldn't believe how far behind they are with their payment options, Some restaurants didn't even have chip and pin terminals. Until then I think the last time I had my card swiped and sign was about 10 years ago.

A bunch of us have credit freezes because of the Equifax breach as well, which will be another hit to its success I bet.

I am in the same boat as us. Does anyone know which reporting agency they use to get your credit score. I would not want to unfreeze all of them.
