The signature panel on my cards say "CHECK ID". About 1 out of 4 people ask for the id.

I stopped writing my "real" signature on receipts many years ago. I just write a squiggly line. I've only been called out once in the last few years and ironically it wasn't in the United States.

I was hoping this will be an alternative option to my Citi DoubleCash credit card but once they said it's just 1% for using the physical card, that eliminated that prospect for sure. Plus, it doesn't look like you can even use it for making purchases online where you have to input your credit card number, CCV, and expiration date.

That info would be in wallet app. But yeah you wouldn’t want to use the physical card anywhere. Which makes it kind of bizarre of going through with the video of how its titanium and what not since it’s gimped.

I like the responsible approach to this card from a financial, security, and privacy standpoint. I may get one eventually. It's a shame I just put my new iMac on a new Barclay card to take advantage of the 0% for 18 months. I don't want too many inquiries so I can keep my credit score high.

How bout screw the credit score and just pay cash ?

Will be definitely adding this to my arsenal of credit cards. The rewards suck compared to my AmEx Gold Card or Barclay's Titanium Card but it'll still be a worthy addition to my credit profile.

Same, my Citi Double Cash card is my default card if I am purchasing something that doesn’t give me a higher % with any of my other cards. I believe you can get the card information from the wallet app but the goal with this card would be to always use Apple Pay so you wouldn’t necessarily need that information.

I like how the card has no information on it anyway as I’ve been doing my best to switch to cards that don’t have any card information on the front as I’ve had my card information stolen by somebody who used a camera to capture the information.

What’s the difference between paying with the normal Apple Pay and now using the Apple Card?

Of course they will. Cards are now only chip so the number is not needed and the same goes for the magnetic strip.
That's in the US but not necessarily elsewhere. Here in Mexico, for example, we still hand the card to the cashier at many places, and due to the high card fraud rates some of them even request an official ID along with the payment card and check the information on both. Those cashiers would certainly reject a chip card with no account information on it. I mention this because Apple claimed worldwide acceptance of the card, and while their statement is undoubtedly true Americans traveling here in Mexico would have better luck using their iPhone or Apple Watch to pay with the Apple Card than using the physical titanium card with no account information engraved on it.

Apples sales were all up last quarterb, minus China

Apple’s sales outside the US continue to stall. Wonder how much of that is influenced by the fact pretty much every service Apple announces these days to compliement it’s premium/over priced hardware is exclusive to the US for months/years.

They said there will still be a card number, you just need to check in the Wallet App for it.
None of the cards in wallet, today anyhow, show the card number. Its just the last 4. When she mentioned the CVV she said look in the app. If they show the full number this will be different than in the past.

Not sure what the worthy part is. I’d wait and see if Apple has anything more to say about it. There’s just better cards to get than this from what we’ve heard.

I wish something like this would come to Hungary sometime in the next 20 years or so. Though I doubt it. Currently every bank account has a monthly fee, a yearly fee, a transaction fee and percentage for every single damn transaction, and of course a fee for cash withdrawals. Oh and bank transfers take at least 2 hours but can take up to two days. So it's good old paper cash for another decade or two I guess!

At the time of making the payment, none (i.e., you still just tap your device). But the rest of the experience is different. The normal Apple Pay is set up by providing the details from your existing physical cards, which are then turned into virtual cards and stored in wallet. The Apple Card, on the other hand, is a virtual Mastercard stored on your iPhone by default and issued by Goldman Sachs, Apple's partner, and all you need to do if you want to use it is apply to have it turned on. Once turned on, you will also manage that card right from the wallet app (as opposed to using your bank's app or website to manage your other cards that you added to Apple Pay).

That info is stored in your Apple wallet. Did you listen to the keynote?

I wonder how it will work with recurring monthly payments like with Netflix. Hopefully I get a notification to allow the charge each month.

I don’t remember any merchant ever checking the signature on my cards. Signature verification is so 1988. And numbers don’t matter anymore either. Look at Apple pay.

I’m in a bit of a rural area a lot and you be surprised how often I see it.

That alone would be a turn off to this card simply from the factor of people freaking out and calling a manager… At least for the next couple years until something like this becomes more mainstream

Apple today revealed a brand new service called "Apple Card," a new digital and physical credit card that users will be able to sign up for right from their iPhone. Apple says this sign-up process takes just a few minutes and then they can start using the Apple Card right away in stores, in apps, or online worldwide. Apple partnered with Goldman Sachs and Mastercard for Apple Card.

After spending, Apple Card will give users simple real-time views of their latest transactions and balance in the Wallet app. Apple Card uses machine learning and Apple Maps to label transactions with merchant names and locations. Purchases are then automatically totaled and color coded through categories like Food and Drinks, Shopping and Entertainment, and more.

At the end of each week and month, the Wallet app will show what users spent to help visualize their past finances. The company will also provide 24/7 customer support through Messages.

Anyone who uses Apple Card will receive a percentage of every purchase amount back as "Daily Cash," the card's rewards program. Every time users pay with Apple Card they will receive 2 percent Daily Cash back, and if they make a purchase directly with Apple they'll get 3 percent Daily Cash back. Daily Cash is immediately added to the user's Apple Cash card in the Wallet app, and can be used anywhere Apple Pay is accepted.

Apple Card has no fees associated with it, and the company says that "Apple Card's goal is to provide interest rates that are among the lowest in the industry and if a customer misses a payment, they will not be charged a penalty rate."

As with Apple's other services, the company promises that Apple Card is completely secure and private.
There will also be a physical Apple Card for shopping at locations where Apple Pay is not accepted. The card is made out of titanium, has no card number, no CVV, no expiration date, and requires no signature.

Apple Card launches in the United States this summer.

In the US and maybe a few other countries they don't even look at the card, but there are still many countries where some of the merchants may request an official ID along with the payment card and check the names on both before processing the payment in an attempt to prevent the use of a stolen card. Happens in Mexico and most of Latin America.

Not all Americans use credit cards for debt. I use credit cards for cash back and then pay them off in full each month so no interest charges. This allows me to get anywhere from 2-5% back depending on the card. It also provides better purchase protection as it’s not tied to my bank account. Lastly, on credit cards I use they extend the manufacturer’s warranty and provide benefits such as accidental damage within the first 90 days covered.

So, for me it makes more sense to use a credit card. Been doing this for probably 7-8 years now.
Sure, you and I might be able to use our cards to our benefit without paying interest but that's not the case for most Americans.

Close to half of Americans have more credit card debt than savings
