This app doesn't seem to work very well right out the gate.

There are 2 items by default in "MY MAGAZINES" one being WIRED and one being ELLE DECOR. I cannot seem to removed the ELLE DECOR from MY MAGAZINES.

I also can't seem to add anything to MY MAGAZINES. I've tried downloading a magazine and it doesn't show up in there. I went through and opened a few and occasionally one will pop up in MY MAGAZINES but then disappear.

Also there seems to be a wildly inconsistent presentation across various publications. There are some REALLY well done like what they demoed at the event, but then if you pick a more niche publication like MAC LIFE or GUITAR WORLD it just ends up being a collection of scanned images of pages from the magazine.

Not sure I will maintain this once the trial is over. I was pleasantly surprised at some of the selections for magazines, but the current inconsistency in the presentation, and the current questionable behavior (which I am sure will be fixed in the weeks to come) kind of turn me off at the moment.

I downloaded entertainment weekly...and now it’s gone. Not in my magazines and not in the categories.
Lol ok.

Well, i’M finding it pretty uninteresting other than Make magazine and WSJ, and even those aren’t too interesting. We’ll see in a month if I renew. Probably only if my kid and wife decide they want to read magazines.

Interesting how one magazine is out of order in the giant alphabetical list. Maybe it has another name that starts with Cycle or Cycles.

...
52. Cricket Magazine (standard)
53. Cruising World (standard)
54. The Cut (ANF)
55. Cycle World (standard)
56. Bike Radar (ANF)
57. Deer & Deer Hunting (standard)
58. Diabetes Self Management (standard)
59. Diabetic Living (ANF)

They must have changed their name or something. The list in the app says Bike Radar but the magazine cover says Cycling Plus.

I am an existing subscriber to Wired, National Geographic, Vogue, The New Yorker, and other titles being offered in Apple News+. These are all up for renewal at different times of the year. Some I get through iTunes, but others I get in print and get the electronic version free with that.

Will I get a prorated refund from those magazines if I sign up for Apple News+? What is Apple’s plan for prrexisting subscribers to their offerings? This is obviously a problem for many people.

Family Sharing is supposed to be included with News+, but it’s not listed under Family Sharing for me. I don’t know if it’s just during the free trial or what, but I can’t share it with my family members.

I have family sharing turned on for my family of 4 and after I subscribed (head of the share) my family members all had News+ available to them instantly.

I just called the WSJ to cancel my direct subscription with them, which is currently running $15/month but was scheduled to go back to their usual price of $35/month starting in April.

I'm doing exactly the same thing. So for folks like us, it's a cost savings for just one subscription. Now if WSJ wises up and pulls out of the deal as they have a right to do, I'll have to go back to WSJ direct but I'm sure they'll be happy to take my money and give me the 'new subscriber' discount to boot.

I don’t get it. I read a lot of the fashion mags he was showing off. NONE of them have foretold a trend of Sherwin Williams painter’s coveralls suddenly becoming board room/public presentation attire.
I take it you haven’t yet seen the break-out hit horror film “Us” yet. Trust me, painter’s coveralls are going to be all the rage this spring.

Look.. on the one hand, what Apple has done with News+ is FAR superior to the current system we have where you buy a magazine here and there, pay a subscription to a newspaper, or 2, or 3 every month, while dealing with ads, tracking and all the other headaches AND on top of that, paying more money than you would for News+ every month!
However, the main issue here is simply that the format itself is long outdated...

The whole reason magazine/newspaper publishers are agreeing to this is because for years now their sales have been dropping like a rock, which is why they constantly have paywalls on their site nagging you to get a subscription to them after you view your 3 free articles of the month. For these publishers, this is a last ditch effort to make at least some money, even if Apple takes, I think, 50%?
The reason everyone stopped buying these magazines/newspapers in the first place is because the Internet replaced them. It is easier, quicker and better to simply get the articles you want to see, right there on any device, whether you're using social media, Reddit, Apple News (not +), Flipboard, RSS feeds, whatever...
So to expect most consumers to want to sit down with their iPads (or worse, their iPhones) and swipe through virtual "pages" of a magazine to read whatever curated articles are inside is laughable!

This would be like if Apple decided to expand Apple Music by announcing "Apple Records".
You pay $20 a month (more than Apple Music) and you get to order whatever album you want - on vinyl! They will ship it to your house, you listen to it as much as you want and return it to them when you're done and they'll send the next album in your queue and you never have to deal with ads, late fees, etc.. Basically, like the old Netflix model but replacing DVDs with vinyl records.
Now I'm sure there are people out there that thinks the "Apple Records" idea sounds great and after all, vinyl records have seen a bit of a resurgence among hipsters and whatnot but obviously it would be ridiculous for Apple to actually follow through with an "Apple Records" service to try and bring back vinyls when digital music is far superior and has replaced analog media!
That's what they're trying to do here - trying to bring back the magazine/newspaper format, when everyone has moved on to consuming individual articles that are delivered through or posted all over the Internet.

I just called the WSJ to cancel my direct subscription with them, which is currently running $15/month but was scheduled to go back to their usual price of $35/month starting in April. The customer service rep asked why I was switching and I told him due to today's Apple News+ announcement that includes the WSJ. He seem well prepared for this and listed a bunch of WSJ features that wont be available on the News+ subscription, things like crosswords and Lifestyle stories, none of which I use or read. After finally giving up on that he offered to lower my subscription price to $20/month. I literally laughed out loud for a few seconds into the phone. I asked why would I pay twice as much as News+ to get the same content I need, not to mention a bunch of other magazines I may read on occasion. He finally relented and I could almost feel his head lowering on the phone as he quietly said he would process my cancellation request.

Well now, there you have it. In a few years, we'll have Apple News+, the service where Apple pay to make the content since all other newspapers and magazines have become extinct.
Even if Apple's offer is great value, I still prefer to pay the publisher directly I want to make sure they can continue to run their business.
Also, if this is in any way indicative, I'm pretty sure that Apple will see publishers withdrawing from Apple News asap.
I'm amazed that people think they can get EVERYTHING for just one tiny amount every month. All the movies, all the series, all the music, all the news and magazines, all the cloud storage they can use. And they want it for no more than a tenner a month.
My guess: you'll get less and less for that tenner, and less and less people will be able to afford that tenner since they'll be out of a job.

You need pay way too much for the device (s) in the name of guarding your privacy, then you need to invest on internet subscription, invest on an expensive router, pay subscription for cable TV which screams same content in voice with visuals, pay subscription to keep your passwords secured, pay additional subscription for storing data in cloud, pay additional subscription for streaming content from multiple providers, on top of that pay monthly telephone & mobile bills, now another subsctsubscr for viewing the publishers content!! I think it getting way too much

Ask Google why? Your governments would come after Apple for this. It is mainly the anti- US tech business stance that prevents many things Apple does from coming to the EU

I think you are confusing things.

Also, explain to me why I can get this in any European country - https://pl.readly.com/
And not Apple News+?

The problem is because of the curation. Apple does not have curators for Germany, Poland, Italy to gather italian, german, polish articles so until that changes we won't get Apple News.
It has nothing to do with rights.

News keeps crashing on my updated iOS.

I keep uninstalling and reinstalling. I open app and it crashes

Anyone else having this issue?

Wonder if Apple is aware

I like Apple, I also realize these things are complex, so this is just a little fun sarcasm...

Considering it's 6am in California, the programmers are probably all just now waking up, patting themselves on the back for doing such a great job with the rollout of the app :)

Philosophically, I agree with the move.

It disincentives click bait, and encourages content to make money off of time spent reading instead.

Why would it disincentive clickbait? It still supports adverts.

yup all my devices have the same issue (crashing) this morning and twitter is ablaze with reports, its a new thing. THERE APPEARS to be a temporary fix. When you first open the app IMMEDIATELY click the News+ tab before the app crashes and it appears the app will then stay working until the next time it closes.

the app UI is terrible. it is SO slow. downloading a magazine for offline reading is like a 30 minute event. the value for me is tremendous, this saves me a ton of money (i subscribe to way to many magazines and they always clutter the house) and lets me experience more magazines but i can't BELIEVE HOW BAD the app is.
