A lot of people seem to be poo-pooing this thing, and it may in fact turn out to be somewhat of a dud- but before everyone jumps to conclusions and writes it off, it's probably good to remember THIS post, from right after the iPod came out...

"All that hype for an MP3 player? Breakthrough digital device? The reality distortion field is beginning to warp Steve's mind if he thinks for one second that this thing is going to take off"

It's going to sell like hotcakes. Teens will scoop these up in buckets, health industry will buy these and in turn buy more iPhones or people will switch to Apple for their phones, I can see older generations using these for monitoring their daily routines, sports enthusiasts will love these as 3rd party apps come into play, medical fields, etc., etc. I am in none of these categories, I just love the design and what it does, never worn a watch before, will grab one of these for sure.

You people saying "Steve Jobs is turning in his grave"... do you not think Steve was fingers deep in the design of this product? Apple doesn't just work on 1 device every year. They work on products 10 - 20 years down the road and update as they see fit.

Cut the bullish*t.

Apple already said, price $349, They also said release is Early 2015, Apple.com already says it connects via Bluetooth

:apple:Watch

I'm pretty sure Apple said FROM $349. Big difference. Even the article title gets this wrong.

Well said.

For all of you MS, Android, Google, etc trolls...

They nailed it.

Sure, there will be design tweaks--look at the first iPhone and compare it to what we have 5 years later.

An entire new category--blew right past everyone, who are likely crapping in their pants. Moto this, moto that--come on! Try copying this type of minaturization, with an entirely new UI, Samsung!

Oh, and the best yet (which really makes everyone, literally EVERYONE, Apple's bitch)--ApplePay.

ApplePay requires a custom secure chipset, software, a UI, as well as agreement from the major credit card companies and retailers. But it solves the credit card fraud problem instantaneously.

There is only one company, just one, that can do all that.

Google, Amazon must be crapping in their pants. Same with the Russian mafia and all the hackbois who stole the credit card numbers. Same with Samsung, which cannot even get close.

I'd love to see Jeff Bezos face right now. Same with Eric Schmidt. Wow.

$150 more than I would conceivably pay for it, and it's ugly as hell.

The only saving grace is the OS is significantly more attractive than Jony Ive's god-awful stark white disgustingness on every other iOS device. iOS 9 hopefully takes design cues from the AppleWatch's OS.

iPhone 6 has me wanting an iPhone for the first time ever (I use an iPod Touch + iPad mini + RAZR2 V9x on prepaid) and I'm considering unifying all those devices into just an iPhone. I love that they took design cues from the iPod Touch 5, which is my favorite iOS device design.

AppleWatch, however... ugh. Seriously, ugh.

$349? That's a ridiculous amount of money for a watch.

Yes, I know it's an awesome watch and I would really, really love one. But I live in the UK and I know that we will (as every other single company in the world does) be ripped off when it comes to pricing here.

So what the US will buy for $349 or around £217, we will end up paying an extra third or so, making it around £300.

Pity because I really, really, really want one.

Steve would not have added so many SKUs to anything. He understood what a trim and easy to understand product line up is. Apple of today are slowly losing the ability to understand this.

WHAT WAS THE BUILDING FOR?

But seriously? Did I miss something?
Did they use it at all during the keynote?

If you don't like it don't buy it.

I'll buy this, still better than stupid android wearables, half assed platform that developers don't touch with a 10 foot pole.

this thing at least looks fully fleshed out.

There are really only two markets for watches: Cheap & Not-Cheap

You're either the kind of person OK with dropping $100+ on a watch, or you aren't (in which case: off to Target you go).

So, yeah -- this watch will be competing in the space occupied by high-end luxury watches (especially the gold models).

Be aware that a high end Hublot or Tag watch will set you back $6,000+ USD , so the :apple: Watch is far from high end.

It sucks that this only works with iPhone. What about iPad and iPod touch? I realize calling and GPS wouldn't work, but what about everything else that all newer iOS devices have?

First impression is that its lame.
Steve Jobs was a master of leading the presentation with explaining why you absolutely had to have the new gadget. Instead with the iWatch I felt lost, and still feel like unanswered questions. What does it do. They started talking about how pretty is it. Who cares if I don't know what it does. Great UI. So what.

I still couldn't tell if its an iPhone companion, lets you access iPhone apps or does it run its own apps. How does it play music? Do you plug headphones into it or your phone? How do you do phone calls? Through your phone or it. It generally felt like if I need my phone for all this stuff, I might as well just use my phone. Why spend $350 on some other gadget thats a poor excuse for a phone.

They come with new giant sized phones as the biggest innovation that no one else has ever thought of. Abandon the 4" iPhone 5s as old technology not worthy of an update. Then announce an iWatch with a tiny <1" screen. Too big and too small.

Serves you well for not being American :p

Looks good, wouldn't say that it is visually very different from the latest offerings from Samsung, Sony or LG though.

But usability is key here, so unless Google enforces some strict guidelines when it comes to developers using the Android Wear platform the Apple Watch might very well be the best in daily use of the bunch.

Things happen quickly in this market though, the difference between smart watches 8-9 months ago and today is like night and day. And the Apple Watch is still probably at least 4 months away - lots can happen in that time.

Their primary mistake was handcuffing it to the iPhone.

The lack of wireless charging is their next mistake. It should charge on your wrist, while you sleep.

I predict this will sell, but only at iPod touch levels, not iPhone/iPad levels.

Hmm... many people hated it when the first iPad was unveiled. Will history repeat itself?

My post was written a few minutes before the announcement. Still, starting at isn't the same as price range and there was still no announcement on tech to talk to the iPhone.
