When I first saw the :apple: Watch's presentation I was saying to myself that it must be priced around $99 and up but $349 is crazy for the amount of functionality that the watch has.

I mean they specifically said that it's designed to work with an iPhone and trying to manage one device with two seems very cumbersome and distracting when you could just have the full functionality of the main one by pulling it out of your pocket.

Also I really don't understand why they're calling it :apple: Watch instead of iWatch when calling it iWatch would appeal to the users of iPhones and other iProducts. I guess they're trying to distinguish it a bit, but it seems counterproductive when it relies so heavily on complementary products.

I'm a grown ass man. I don't need to send my contacts a drawing of a fish.

How on EARTH is this faster/easier than just taking your phone out and texting someone?

More than I could have expected. Gorgeous device. Are we thinking about £349? BBC News' article mentioned that the exact conversion of $349 is £216 but we all know Apple will not use conversion.

The price is a little higher than they should have gone with but I really think the device delivers over every other smart watch. That being said, the Moto360 is mighty.

You gotta be a pretty jerk to buy the gold Apple watch. Spend probably 1000 Dollars on a watch that will be obsolete in 1 year lol

The one on the left looks nice. I don't know why Ive was saying that they've beaten the Swiss, but it easily bests the competition design-wise except for Motorola.

Also, this is disturbing:
The Watch does rely heavily on the iPhone and does not function as a standalone device as it is designed to work with Apple's new Continuity features, letting users shift tasks from one device to another with ease.
So I need an iPhone in my pocket to use it? And it's $349 by itself? No deal. Please at least tell me that it'll still tell time without an iPhone.

I love this. Two questions -

1) Does the sport edition have sapphire? I read it's durable but 30% lighter.
2) Is this thing waterproof?

It isn't.

But I didn't see the point of snapchat (outside of people who want to take dirty pictures and send them) either, and that's huge with everyone not named me, apparently.

They seem to be dropping the "i"... Just like Apple Pay. Maybe in the future iPhone will be called Apple Phone. Sigh.

Another problem: Its hard to wear two wristwatches. What does the guy with the $3000 Rolex or Omega - the sort of person who is the theoretical target market for this device - do here? Apple has not only to get these folks to cough up $500 or so for the Apple Watch, but also to leave their fancy other watches at home.

what? a $350 watch isn't aimed at the $3000 market. by definition.

Reality Check - yes, you will get one

Why I will buy one:

1. I will not have to pull my phone out of my purse or pocket to see who is calling. Or make a note. Or check any one of a dozen other things.
Side Benefit - Less chance of dropping the phone!

2. I will not have to look for my phone. The watch is on me. It probably has a tether to the phone. And I won't need it as often as the watch takes over some functions.

3.They look better than I expected. I hope they have one with an orange band;-). The smaller face looks like it might work - there is slender woman wearing an Edition version and it looks okay on her.

4. It is going to do more than I currently think and I won't be misplacing it!

It is brilliant to have it only work with an iPhone. Really? Sell more watches because it crosses smartphone platforms? How about sell more iPhones - which pulls more people into the Apple ecosystem - because they want a watch. And a watch is an accessory, I expect many people to own two or more. Apple and its shareholders will be smiling all the way to the bank.

This thread reminds me of the original iPad thread. now all of us are on our 3rd or 4th or 5th iPad

It would have been useful about 10 years ago -- before everyone got comfortable just taking their phones out in public. This would have been a nice way to keep people off their phones public (since you can check messages on your watch and filter the noise).

That ship has sailed though. Now, the only group of people who I think would benefit from this tech are women (who keep their phone in their purses) -- but the watches are all bulky and unfashionable, I'd be shocked if any woman would be caught dead wearing one.

That entirely depends on where you live. In NYC, 90%+ of women are wearing very bulky watches. By bulky, I mean the new Apple watch looks very slim in comparison. I'm sure the trend will catch on elsewhere.

Jony Ive + Steve Jobs = best design duo

Jony Ive = mediocre designer

Jony Ive is an amazing designer, It's just that Steve knew how to push him further, how to exceed what even Jony thought he himself was capable of.

Jony still does fantastic work, but you can tell there isn't the same force behind him.

If the display was circular instead of square people would be drooling all over this. I wasn't crazy about it at first but then I went to Apple's website and looked at all the photos of it and it's definitely growing on me. It blows me away that they have so many different styles/bands for a version one product. I certainly wasn't expecting that out of the gate.

For a company that tends to limit themes within it's main operating systems (iOS & MacOS) they sure do have quite a bit of customization options for their 1st edition wearable.

I am hoping for more options going forward, for devices with round faces, and perhaps even bands, giving a few more hardware / screen design options for people.

I can almost hear Schiller in his almost cliche whit. "The :apple: Watch 2 features Two designs, some days you feel square, others are a bit more rounded, now you can choose with what best fits your personality, or, collect both".

That's not a thing.

On that subject,

I thought I remembered them saying it had cameras within the back as well. I am not 100% sure if arm skin maintains a dedicated pattern (like a fingerprint), however this could be used in a similar method of achieving TouchID, as your fingers would be.

Well, since the announcement, my gf wants one, my mom who is 65 loves it and wants one, my dad who is 74 and a watch wearer, can't wait to get one, hoping for a golf app to tell him swing speed and distance, so that's three people in about 5 seconds I know who will be ordering one on Day one, oh plus me, so that's 4 sales.

I assume it'll work just like every other smart watch, whereby it will handle the basic function of telling time by itself.

The tech is amazing in this thing for sure, many practical uses for many of the features from what I see. looks is subjective heck I think rolex's are ugly and to bulky. Regardless they will surely sell a ton of these I just wont be one of them. However I will be one of the many millions with an iphone 6 complete with its ugly strips. My contract isn't up for another 6 months so I'll have plenty time to choose between the 6 and the 6+ , by then I wont even have to wait for one.
