I just rang the Birmingham Bullring (uk) store to ask what time it went on sale. However, the girl didn't know and told me to ring back on Thursday.

We have to catch the train in so don't fancy hanging around all day if we turn up too early. Do the uk stores close then reopen at 6pm like the us ones?

I only had to pay $9.95 since I got my MacBook Pro in June. I'm pretty excited for the update. Imagining increased speed on this system is even more exciting, considering I'm still shocked with how fast this is compared to my old windows machine.

I'm very excited that there is an "Update" option. Even though I have the HDD backed up on my Time Capsule (got a refurb 500GB on eBay after Apple updated to 1 and 2 TB, and I got a great deal on it!) the though of a clean install was not something I wanted to go through.

I have not been a Mac user that long, so I am looking for some advice with this launch.

I already have a preorder for Snow Leopard with Amazon.com. I did this because I assumed I would be out of town for the Sept launch, and I wasn't sure if the apple store would have enough copies (since they are only $29.)

Anyway, I will be town for the release on Aug 28th.

Here is what I was thinking:

Go and purchase a copy at launch. (Does apple do midnight launches at their stores (Washington Square near Portland OR) or just the "flagship stores?" What if any kinds of preorder items have been included in the past? (I saw the post about the Leopard t-shirt.)

Keep the preorder with amazon.com just in case the apple store runs out of copies. Return the amazon copy if I am unable to cancel the order in time and it ships also.

Any advice anyone can offer would be great.

P.S. Are their going to be meet up threads like the iphone releases?

I pre-ordered Snow Leopard on the 21st via up-to-date. My order still says it's shipping in Sept. Do up-to-date customers have to wait???

From what I've done and tried the 64-bit kernel is restricted to only certain machines, such as the XServe. I've got the last white MacBook with Intel graphics. It has EFI64 but it won't let me boot into the 64-bit kernel with the proper flags that Apple states.

I wonder how long it will take for someone to file a lawsuit...

Also - YaY! Snow Leopard!

I'd love to know what exchange rate Apple base their UK prices on. We seem to be getting shafted. How does USD$29.99 translate to UK£25.00?
Gits.

Ok just noticed that this has already been commented on. Damn time lapse with comments posting and then appearing.

Okay, look, this is getting stupid. I'm from the UK and am normally right there with you on unfair pricing (last year's debacle with raising prices on MBP and iMac springs to mind) but are we really complaining over this?

£25 = $41
$30 sales cost + 15% VAT = $34.50

On top of that you have import duty and, more than likely, several other small but significant cost increases in the UK versus the US. Even without them it's a whole $6.50 more expensive, that's less than £4 which I'd quite easily believe gets sucked up somewhere along the route (or is an insurance by Apple against the pound loosing value against the dollar). Either way, a whole FOUR QUID doesn't seem worth all the bitching.

^^That's what I mean. If it's shipped on 28th, it won't be delivered on same day, likely.

Sorry, friend. Did you read the thumbnail? Delivers ON Aug. 28. Apple ships via FedEx Priority overnight. Meaning Apple will ship Pre-Orders on Aug. 27th for delivery on the release date of Aug. 28th. It has always been like this. iLife forever, and Mac OS X forever. I remember when I order my Macbook Pro April 2008, took 3 days. It was a build to order, but as soon as it was ready to ship, I had it the next morning.

So if I pre-order it from the Apple Store now, I will have it delivered to my house on Friday (just like Leopard when it was delivered on the release day)??

I don't understand why they'd have to import from the US. Why not just print the discs in the UK

Sheesh! Read the other posts where I say that on reflection and taking various sales taxes and import costs into account it's not so bad.

Don't get too excited. It is faster, just not incredibly faster. The main problem is that there are many apps (such as iTunes and third party apps) that are still 32bit.

Dang, and here I was thinking I was going to be able to have a nice and relaxing weekend not having to do anything. I guess this will be worth the change of plans

Well, if Snow Leopard won't do it, here's hoping that iTunes 9 will be out shortly and will clean up a lot of sluggishness that I'm experiencing with my library. I've dumped over 30GB of music and it's getting to be unbearable just to click on anything on the left sidebar.

Sorry, friend. Did you read the thumbnail? Delivers ON Aug. 28

Ships: Delivers on Aug 28th
We estimate your order to be shipped by By August 28th.

I was just about to order it but then looked at shipping. Ships: By Aug 28th Delivery: Mail (within 5 days after it has shipped) or carrier (extra 15€) (within 4 days after it has shipped)

If it comes on 28th to me, then it should ship today or tomorrow (it would be late anyway)

What I know and have heard from people here, Apple ships through slowest and cheapest possibility, FedEx Ground service (I guess). It'll be faster IF you pay extra. It took over a week for my iMac to arrive from CZ to Finland and the distance isn't big, maybe 3 hours with an airplane.

Does anyone know why the Up to Date orders won't be shipped until September? I placed an order under the up to date program and my order status is saying September for the ship date.

Is is possible that we can get these fulfilled at an Apple retail store?

Apple US Store Delivers ON 28th

I pre-ordered today the family pack at Apple store and it says it will be delivered ON the 28th. Shipping method is priority and shipping cost = $0

People may start getting Snow Leopard on the 27th. Like with Leopard, they made sure as much as possible to get the discs to the people on time.

Stupid enough not to make oneself a company? Seriously though, I've been thinking to found a kind of "myself.com" business just to get to buy things tax-free. Sadly enough, I myself would perhaps be the only customer of the myself.com business, but what the heck, if the systems lets me buy things tax-free by running a business then why not :D

Right.. and you were talking about the honour system earlier. What an 'honourable' person you must be. I guess its not stealing when you cheat the general public of funds, but is if you break your Apple EULA. I don't necessarily agree.

See Snow Leopard before Friday...

Apple home page updated.

...if you happen to be in San Diego, stop by the Zoo to see live Snow Leopards. Sorry a little off topic, but they seem like fascinating creatures and I'm on vacation so I think I'll take a look-see.

Anyone else know of Snow Leopards in any other zoos US or international?
