Ask Gordon Brown why you are paying VAT. Then ask him why the pound is so low compared to the dollar right now. Then ask him if Apple is paying any import duties. Then calm down some, and then come back here.

Actually, the average rate for the last 10 years is about 1.7 dollars to the pound which is not far off the current value.

But I've been caught out with this tax difference problem before, so just to help the comparisons, the total price for my order of Snow Leopard was US$31.40. Of course, it'll be different for people living in different zip codes.

why you are paying VAT

Stupid enough not to make oneself a company? Seriously though, I've been thinking to found a kind of "myself.com" business just to get to buy things tax-free. Sadly enough, I myself would perhaps be the only customer of the myself.com business, but what the heck, if the systems lets me buy things tax-free by running a business then why not :D

Just ask for a level 2, 3, or 4 tech person, or if you have a developer account, call that number where they actually know something.

So what would you have paid?

D'oh. Yes... I'd assume it's that mystery 10a435, and if it isn't, then that's the first 10.6.1 candidate.

I heard there was a 10A436 floating around.

I doubt it is the first candidate of 10.6.1 given that when they branch off they change the letter; hence how you get 10B, 10C etc. They branch off when they create an update or when they need to add new functionality for a product coming out soon.

And fingers crossed SL going to ship with a decent Java VM defaulted? ie 1.6 with plugin 2 support ???

Snow Leopard out Aug 28th

So how many of you are going to get Snow Leopard on Friday? I'm thinking about waiting for the first update to come out before I take the plunge! What do you think.

i love how everyone in the UK (being like me) are moaning about £10 for an operating system, whereas Apple are swindling hundreds off us with their hardware?

We also moan about the difference in hardware prices. In the Netherlands we pay 49€ ($70) for the same software that is $49 in the US. That is a difference of a bit less than 30%!

But Apple is smart. Most people will buy it anyway, and so did I.. even at $70 or 49€ I think it is a reasonable price for a new OS version.

If I buy a new Macbook on Friday or Saturday at an Apple Store, will I get a free copy of Snow Leopard? Obviously it won't be pre-installed, but I'd rather not have to send away for the $9.95 upgrade. Do they usually just give you a copy of the disc to install yourself?

I did this with Panther and Tiger. They gave me a "CPU drop-in" disc, not the fulll retail version.

So why were you complaining in the first place? :D

Because my response was in a later post after I had seem peoples comments about the differences in taxes and import duties etc. Do you only read the first 3 words of each persons post or something? If you read the whole post I wouldn't have to keep posting replies.

They are charging you 30% or so more than US buyers? Perhaps the difference is in import taxes or something similar?

nope they are still charging to the system where the pound dropped almost to the dollar, same reason the mini is still 100 quid more = pure cupertino greed.

Just regarding the shipping, in the UK it says ships by the 28th, which is exactly the same situation as when Leopard came out. They'll send them in the next couple of days so as many people as possible get them on the 28th. Nothing to worry about :)

Finally, but all in all we all knew it would come out the 28th

I pre-ordered from Amazon, do they try to deliver on the same day?

Money is not everything

Guys, forget about that tax/VAT "crap"!

...paying 29€ here in good old europe, which means about 41USD....

Still I have a quite perfect healthcare system here and does not have to worry about financial ruin when I or a family member gets sick ;-)

Going to Buy a Mac book Pro

Ia ma going to buy a MAC Pro today, wondering if I should wait till 28th August, if they'll give me a free update to snow leopard after that.
