Thank god, they say ichat will now be more reliable even though routers may not be reliable. They were listening to us afterall.

Perfect timing for me. I moving in a week. I was planning on using iChat to keep up with some of the family.

Thanks apple. ;)

I don't think that Up To Date orders are shipping until September - my order status still says so and when I used the store chat they said it wouldn't ship until early September. Sucks tbh.

So if I pre-order it from the Apple Store now, I will have it delivered to my house on Friday (just like Leopard when it was delivered on the release day)??

I just oredrec via Telesales. He told me that it will ship ' a few days ' after 28th... Maybe just to build up hype, or to ensure that I don't expect it any earlier !

Hi

Does anyone know if there is a Higher Education discount in the UK for Snow Leopard?

Thanks.

I was wondering this, I don't think so I tried one of the discount sites not my uni one cause I haven't set up the vpn but it never was cheaper. I think cause Apple are doing a deal already they won't give us anymore money back :p

I ordered mine the second it came online in Australia and this is my order.

Good news...

Not quite sure why they picked artwork for the box that is a snow leopard that looks like it was pelted on top of the head by a snowball though...

Beyond the straight currency conversion and taxes, Apple also has to deal with the cost of doing business in a particular country. Corporate taxes, leases, materials, retail salaries, etc that are specific to a given country. This all needs to be taken into account when pricing a product within each country.

stop trying to justify apples greed, the prices went up after the pound went down now its back up:rolleyes:

Before i preorder from apple ... will Adobe CS2 work in SL? any way shape or form?

Yes, should run with perhaps some minor incompatibilities. Rosetta installs automatically on Snow Leopard if you have PowerPC apps, you can also install it by pressing Customize at the install.

Snow Leopard doesn't run on PowerPC computers, but PowerPC software still runs on Intel processors thanks to Rosetta.

This is outrageous. Apple promised SL would be released in September. How dare they go back on their word and release it in August.

Pre-ordered. =)

I just placed my order via telesales, they told me that there is no educational discount :( £25 is a bargain still !

Do we need to start factoring in the difference between VAT and sales tax? ;)

As I understand it (and I may be wrong) in the US even though you have sales tax which is different in nature to VAT, it is still only the consumer who pays the tax (in the US) rather than it being payed at every stage in production. Even though producers in the UK pay VAT they are able to claim this back so basically end up not paying it. In both instances it pretty much ends up being the consumer that bears the brunt of the tax so they are pretty much the same thing... I think.

And if I'm not right I really don't care that much

Eda M: For the Up to Date Programme, availability will be in September.

You: oh. ok. Thanks for your help[/I]

Don't know if he misunderstood, was not well informed or if he is speaking the truth. God knows!
My order is the same, ie "Ships by September'. This is in the UK (up-to-date).

Here is a transcript from my conversation online with the Apple store:

You are chatting with Eda M, an Apple Expert
Hi, my name is Eda M. Welcome to Apple!

Eda M: Good afternoon

You: Hi Eda.

Eda M: How may I help you today?

You: I ordered a copy of Snow Leopard through the up-to-date program (i had to send in forms as the online service wasn't working) and I was just wondering if I recieve an email when it ships or if there is any way I can check the status of my order?

Eda M: You will receive an email when it ships.

You: Great. Does it aim to deliver by the 28th or just ship by the 28th?

Eda M: If you pre-order it should be delivered on the 28th.

You: I used the up-to-date system - is that the same as pre-ordering?

Eda M: Let me double check on that please.

You: thansk

You: thanks

Eda M: You're welcome.

Eda M: For the Up to Date Programme, availability will be in September.

You: oh. ok. Thanks for your help

According to the apple website, the up to date program ships september of 2009. i'm not sure why, but it does.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard Up-to-Date Program

Mac OS X Snow Leopard refines the elegant Mac OS X user experience with lots of little touches and performance improvements that will make using your Mac even more enjoyable. It also includes a few big foundation technologies designed to tap the power of today’s computer hardware and provide a strong base for innovation. If you’ve purchased a qualifying computer or Xserve on or after June 8, 2009 that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard for $9.95.*

This program ends December 26, 2009. Your completed order form must be postmarked or faxed within 90 days of the date of your purchase of a qualifying computer or Xserve (described in this offer) or by December 26, 2009, whichever is earlier.

Expected Product Availability: September 2009

Checked my up-to-date order status, and it says September.

MAJOR bummer, I can only hope the status changes and I get it Friday.

Yay for the news but I'm still bummed on the disc/box art. I don't get why they all of sudden changed it and broke away from the "X" theme...whatever. The current art looks like a wallpaper from Windows 98.

Yeah, I'm with you. Also, I'm really upset that they are now using two words to name the OS (Snow Leopard) just like Microsoft (Windows Vista) instead of their elegant one word labels (Panther, Tiger, Leopard...)

[Shouldn't be necessary but just in case.... This post was done tongue-in-cheek]

I am not justifying anything as I have no idea what thoses costs are for each country. It may actually be cheaper to operate in the CountryX than the USA (and they are getting screwed even worse). All I am saying is that it is not a straight currency conversion plus tax delta.

pre-ordered my family pack weeks ago - this is good news - will be ready for the upgrade...

gotta love affordable OS upgrades from Apple...

Rosetta is an option when installing. It doesn't install by default in Snow Leopard.

Finally, but all in all we all knew it would come out the 28th

I pre-ordered from Amazon, do they try to deliver on the same day?

Scratch that. i cancled the Amazon order and pre-ordered from Apple.

lucky me. i get it the very same day i go back to college!

I just got off Apple Chat with a rep from Apple, and she told me Snow Leopard begins shipping on the 28th and that I won't be receiving it on the 28th. :-(

Maybe I'll just go down to the store.
