I just changed my amazon shipping to two-day from free super saver-I had a gift card so i only paid like $ 1.37

apparently I am as excited as everyone else is

Right.. and you were talking about the honour system earlier. What an 'honourable' person you must be. I guess its not stealing when you cheat the general public of funds, but is if you break your Apple EULA. I don't necessarily agree.

lol violently at you, apple have been accused of many dishonourable things over the past few years:cool:

Don't get too excited. It is faster, just not incredibly faster. The main problem is that there are many apps (such as iTunes and third party apps) that are still 32bit.

My guess would be that iTunes 9 will be 64 bit for SL, but maybe not.

nope they are still charging to the system where the pound dropped almost to the dollar, same reason the mini is still 100 quid more = pure cupertino greed.

Beyond the straight currency conversion and taxes, Apple also has to deal with the cost of doing business in a particular country. Corporate taxes, leases, materials, retail salaries, etc that are specific to a given country. This all needs to be taken into account when pricing a product within each country.

Does anyone know the best program to use to take a cut of my OS X disk image for restore at a later date? I want to have a nice backup of a fresh SL install + my apps.

Thanks!

Just ordered my copy via telesales, they don't give any educational discounts. At £25 delivered it's still cheap :D

Ordered this morning from the Canadian store, ships by the 28th. Will get it whenever.

I can live with that.

Stupid enough not to make oneself a company? Seriously though, I've been thinking to found a kind of "myself.com" business just to get to buy things tax-free. Sadly enough, I myself would perhaps be the only customer of the myself.com business, but what the heck, if the systems lets me buy things tax-free by running a business then why not :D
If you order from Amazon, no sales tax is charged, and shipping is free in the US.

I phoned my local store (Bluewater in the UK) and they couldn't commit that they would have stocks on Friday instore. She was aware that the pre-orders had started but said thay they hadn't been advised as to when they would get stock.

TT.

...if you happen to be in San Diego, stop by the Zoo to see live Snow Leopards. Sorry a little off topic, but they seem like fascinating creatures and I'm on vacation so I think I'll take a look-see.

Anyone else know of Snow Leopards in any other zoos US or international?

The Philadelphia Zoo has a snow leopard!

I ordered mine about an hour ago from the Canadian site via the Up-To-Date program, and it says:

MAC OS X SNOW LEOPARD UTD FULFILL-INT
Ships: September

UK Up-To-Date Orders

Here is a transcript from my conversation online with the Apple store:

You are chatting with Eda M, an Apple Expert
Hi, my name is Eda M. Welcome to Apple!

Eda M: Good afternoon

You: Hi Eda.

Eda M: How may I help you today?

You: I ordered a copy of Snow Leopard through the up-to-date program (i had to send in forms as the online service wasn't working) and I was just wondering if I recieve an email when it ships or if there is any way I can check the status of my order?

Eda M: You will receive an email when it ships.

You: Great. Does it aim to deliver by the 28th or just ship by the 28th?

Eda M: If you pre-order it should be delivered on the 28th.

You: I used the up-to-date system - is that the same as pre-ordering?

Eda M: Let me double check on that please.

You: thansk

You: thanks

Eda M: You're welcome.

Eda M: For the Up to Date Programme, availability will be in September.

You: oh. ok. Thanks for your help

Don't know if he misunderstood, was not well informed or if he is speaking the truth. God knows!

Rosetta

Rosetta is an optional install that is not checked by default.

If you open a PPC app without Rosetta installed, Snow Leopard states that in order to run this app you need to install Rosetta and offers to download and install it for you.

It's about a 2 mb download and then you're set.

Why they just don't include it by default I don't know.

lol for the next OS they'll announce a release date at a really late date then 'surprise' us all by releasing it 2 months earlier. :p

anyway. does this mean that I'll get the disc in my post box by 28 August or will they start despatching it on the 28th (meaning I'll get it sometimes in September)? I've never pre-ordered anything before.

Right.. and you were talking about the honour system earlier. What an 'honourable' person you must be. I guess its not stealing when you cheat the general public of funds, but is if you break your Apple EULA. I don't necessarily agree.

What kind of cheating it is if I'm wondering whether I should play by the book? If the law is such that companies get benefits, then why not have a company as a hobby.

It just might be so, that a company either strives or goes bancrupt. You'll never know beforehand, that's why there are benefits because there are also lots of risks.

Breaking EULA is straightforward stealing. Running a company might be a well, but it is judged by its customers! A lawfully run business is a lawful business. Blame the laws if it's wrong somehow ;)
