What kind of cheating it is if I'm wondering whether I should play by the book? If the law is such that companies get benefits, then why not have a company as a hobby.

It just might be so, that a company either strives or goes bancrupt. You'll never know beforehand, that's why there are benefits because there are also lots of risks.

Breaking EULA is straightforward stealing. Running a company might be a well, but it is judged by its customers! A lawfully run business is a lawful business. Blame the laws if it's wrong somehow ;)

Setting up a scheme for tax evasion purposes is a felony in most countries, and I suppose it is the same in Finland. Whether you get caught or not is a different thing, but most national revenue services don't go by the 'honour' system. The scheme you described would be illegal, as you use your company for personal expenses. Ie., you don't describe a lawfully run business.

I wish companies wouldn't screw us in the UK over exchange rates. $29 US, £25 UK ($41 at current exchange rate)

I'm with you. I paid 319 SEK (Swedish Krona) for my pre-order just now.. that translates to $45. Well well, what to do.

Just hope that I'll receive it on the 28th tho.. looks suspicious that the US store says "Ships: Delivers on August 28th" and the Swedish store (UK as well) says: "Ships: By August 28th".

Can mods please delete all related talk about currency? I'll be honest I'm from US and don't give a crap but even if I was from Europe... SL talk has nothing to do with currency. Please stop. A bold message in the first post warning about it would be nice

Now how come those that pre-ordered with UTD still says shipping: Sept.?

Just ordered and also free shipping which is good considering £25 is less than what they say will qualify

Amazon aren't getting Snow Leopard until the 5th September in the UK. Guess that I'll just have to buy from the Apple Store.

What makes shipping dates any more relevant than the cost of the product? Or are you trying to inject a little irony?

"There's no way that Apple would use that as the box art. No friggin' way. It's ugly."

Hahaha. More proof that most people in these forums don't have a clue what they are talking about.

So, how many more of you "developers" are dying to know if 432 is the GM or not to make sure your torrented copy is the final one?

I sure hope all your applications you are developing and rigorously testing are ready for SL.

I'm not bothered about the conversion tbh, I think £25 is a fair price to pay, if not a bit of a bargain imo. You have to just view what you're paying and what you're getting, no point looking at other countries unless its clearly a piss-take.

I don't understand why they'd have to import from the US. Why not just print the discs in the UK
Why do you think they will import it from the US?

The Mac Box Set I own was "printed in Ireland". Last time I checked, Ireland was not part of the US. However, what it is part of, is the European Union. On the other hand, even if it was imported from the US, the tariff would be 0%.

I'm not going to get into the ethics bit.... but there is another thing you need to worry about. The tax people will review your company's figures to ensure that you are in fact trying to make a profit (at least in Canada that is the case, where we have GST - which is a VAT. The company needs to show that it is trying to make a profit, and is not a hobby or tax dodge.)

I think you are in the UK, from memory, and I suspect they have similar regulations. After all, the tax people really really really want their taxes. If you were to set up a legitimate company, with real prospects of earning a profit - then you are set. One of the things they don't check is whether you make smart business decisions. So - if you decide you need a new Mac, they don't care if you buy the cheap-barely-able-to-do-the-job Mac Book, or a Mac Pro. As long as the system is only used for business.

I plan to wait 'til at least 10.6.1 before even considering Snow Leopard. Though the wait is going to be difficult. :D

I just got off Apple Chat with a rep from Apple, and she told me Snow Leopard begins shipping on the 28th and that I won't be receiving it on the 28th. :-(

Maybe I'll just go down to the store.

That's not what the Apple Store says. Maybe the up-to-date program is different?

So can anyone *confirm* with certainty that this requires Leopard to install? My friend lost his Leopard disk, and that could become a problem if he ever needs to reinstall the OS. The userbase of Tiger + intel is so small that I think that Apple wouldn't bother to have that check. Why advertise improved install times if you always have to install leopard first?

Install Time

I wonder what the installation time difference will be between my MP and my MBP?

I remember when Leopard came out and some people said it was taking hours. I remember popping in the disks in my old quad core MP with 3GB of RAM, starting the install procedure, going out to mow my front yard and coming in about 40 minutes later and it was within a minute or two of finishing up.

Mate, you're in one of the highest taxing countries in the world - why is it Apple's fault that your government wishes to gouge every cent out of its citizenship under the 'illusion' of 'we'll take care of you' - reminds me of Reagan's nine terrifying words: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'

According to the apple website, the up to date program ships september of 2009. i'm not sure why, but it does.

That pisses me off! The U-T-D discs should b shipped/delivered on the same day as the rest of em. I mean, if it wasnt for the up-to-date program, I would have held off buying the computer (well, not with snow leopard's price. Would have if we're talking $129 tho)

I guess the free update (the $9.99 is supposed to be for shipping) isn't as important as everyone else...

Can someone please tell me if it's possible to turn on the Anti-Aliasing for CRT monitors? You know, the kind that's not over-sharp?

Here's a screenshot of what I mean:

Is there a CRT option in Snow Leopard (if not, is there an equivalent?)

We can discuss anything here that applies to the availibility of Snow Leopard, and that includes the price. You do not determine what gets discussed here.
