Is everyone getting this screen when they try to order?
I just tried putting SL in my cart and checking out. I haven't entered in any of my info yet.

Notice that it says "Standard Shipping.. 5-8 biz days".
I have seen a few posts where people have Priority Shipping to be delivered on the 28th. Does this change after you enter in all your billing info?

Quick question. If i buy the pre-order. Will it be at my house on Friday? (i live in ohio, usa)

All of the sudden, no one cares about the build number of the GM anymore

Okrelayer, it says 'DELIVERS: aug 28' so i assume yes

I thought I'd give Apple's online help a whirl to see if they could answer my question regarding the Snow Leopard upgrade. I wanted to know whether I could do a clean install with the Snow Leopard upgrade version.

I'm actually running Leopard at the moment, but I didn't want the canned answer of "yes, you should buy the upgrade edition", so I said I was running Windows 7.

I think the response I got was pretty unprofessional and showed complete lack of understanding.

Hi, my name is Donna G. Welcome to Apple!
You: Hi there... Snow Leopard upgrade...
Donna G: Hello
Donna G: How may I help you today?
You: how does it verify if I already have Leopard?
You: Do I have to first have Leopard installed?
Donna G: What OS do you have installed on your Mac now?
You: I can imagine that being very annoying if I need to do a clean install of Snow Leopard.
You: I have Windows at the moment...
You: but ideally I don't want to have to go back to Leopard first to install Snow Leopard.
Donna G: Are you asking if you can install Snow Leopard on your PC?
You: No.
You: I have a MacBook Air.
Donna G: Okay, and what OS do you have installed on your MacBook Air?
You: Windows 7.
Donna G: Thank you for shopping the Apple Online Store.
Donna G: We do not assist with Windows questions.

You bought a Mercedes, then put a Chevy engine into it. When you called Mercedes to ask about their warranty work on the engine, they booted you out. Now you are upset about it.

You went out of your way to install Win7 on an Air. You had to do some work, some reading, some learning. Now, you are upset that you are expected to do some more learning and work.

Given the torrent of calls Apple CS is dealing with right now, I'd say you were given the time you deserved.

Duh

Frankly I might have ended the conversation as well. Why not be up front, honest, direct with your questions. You might get straight answers.

forget that!

umma go to the apple store, and buy it myself.!:p:p:p

hopefully they start selling them in apple stores in california, by aug 28 or 29

Hi everyone! I just placed my order in Apple Store Germany, and apparently, it will deliver by 28th. The order invoice says:
Voraussichtliche Versandzeit: By August 28th
Google translating (I cannot read German, only intuit it :)) it reads as: Estimated delivery time: August 28th.
Hope that's true!

yeah i know, JUST checking. I really would hate to pre-order and have to wait until Monday. I work all day friday, and i would love to install it when i get home on friday. Saturday i would be able to go to the Apple Store if needed though

Then you shouldn't have bought a Mac because Apple consistent develops for their current machines, and if it works in older machines/OSes great, if not, too bad.

The real "Apple Tax" is not the premium on hardware b/c it's really not much more expensive than a truly comparable PC. The true tax is the fact Macs are not as upgradable and require replacement sooner than comparable PCs. I find I can't keep a desktop for more than 3 years or a laptop for more than 2 because new technology advances at about that rate.

But 90% of the Mac user base is home users who typically don't care about having the latest and greatest OS. (Same for PC home users too). Those of us who are obsessed with being current, either out of hobby or true need, have to realize we chose an expensive computer system.

My MacBook costs me the same amount as a Thinkpad would cost me in New Zealand, so I'd hardly say that there is a 'Mac Tax' - unless of course you're comparing a MacBook to one of those low price pieces of crap from eMachines. If you're going to do that, I might as well say Mercedes is a rip off because I can buy a Lada at 1/5 the price.

People like you make up less than 15% of the over all market; 85% of people are happy with their 4 year old machine, and at most they'll add some extra memory or put in a bigger hard disk; anything more complex they'll look at getting a new machine. That is the reality - I certainly don't see aunt pearl or joe bloggs hovering around a open computer case on a Saturday afternoon upgrading their components in a piece meal fashion because it tickles their fancy.

I saw the conversation and his questions were stupid to begin with; why didn't he just ask, "I have a MacBook Air running a non-Apple operating system on it; do I have to have Leopard installed on the computer to be able to install Snow Leopard onto it". It would have been a yes/no answer; quick, easy and painless. The original poster is nothing less than a creep with a chip on his shoulder - if assault wasn't a crime and the conversation was in the real world; I'd encourage Donna G to tazer ShALLaX.

I don't believe he actually installed Windows 7, only implied that he did so he could find out if he needed to install Leopard prior to Snow Leopard, or if Snow Leopard was it's own install.

I ordered my copy for delivery to an address in the US as I'll be in Florida on Friday! The order status is already Prepared for Shipment! :)

Give Apple a call and see if it is being prepared for shipment. My UTD order is still showing "Not Shipped" and "Ships: September" online, but when I called in, the agent said my order was being prepared to ship and would arrive on August 28th.

Will do. Thanks!

Have you actually read what the OP had posted. Or are you simply trolling?

Snow Leopard and higher prices in europe

Thank the VAT for that. Apple's take is about the same, despite the higher price tag. That is why politicians love VATs. It's an "invisible" tax as opposed to the regular "sales tax" in the U.S. which shows up as a separate line prior to the grand total cost.

@ Chupa Chupa,

VAT is not 50%, the problem might be Customs Fees that have to be paid, but this should still not add up to 50%. The only thing I could think of here is that Electronics and it's tools always go for a premium in europe, I don't know why this is the case. Electronics here in the US are a lot cheaper in general.

Just my 2 cents on this ;)

Looking forward to see how Snow Leopard works :)

Mine said that too, but after I ordered my order acknowledgment e-mail said priority overnight shipping by 3 p.m. on Friday.

Update: Looks like the order I placed this morning is already "prepared for shipment."

I think the answer was adequate, even polite, given that you willfully wasted this persons time and energy.

Don't forget it's the Bank Holiday weekend this weekend too so no post Monday and a backlog Tuesday/Wednesday. I'll be going to the Apple Store instead of ordering online, I reckon.

Good thinking batman;) I think I'll do the same.

It's on it's way....

Just ordered on the UK site.

I 'spoke' to an Apple representative online who said that it will ship on the 28th, but the attached screenshot says otherwise!

As an aside, I have installed the so called "GM" build on my iMac as a test - will this one just upgrade it to the current released version? or will I need to have 10.5 on there first?

Cheers

Bill;)

awww, come on, don't be d*cks!!!

>You bought a Mercedes, then put a Chevy engine into it. When you called >Mercedes to ask about their warranty work on the engine, they booted >you out. Now you are upset about it.
it's more like:
you bought a mercedes. mercedes promoted and gave you the tools to also use a Chevy engine in it (bootcamp). when you called mercedes to ask about their brand new V8 engine that they offer as a replacement for their V6 engine, you ask if you have to install the V6 engine as a replacement of the V4 that you have currently in (and that Mercedes said that you could run without problems) or if you could bring the car, show them the V6 and they put in the V8 without mucking about it.

>Why not be up front, honest, direct with your questions. You might get straight answers.
because the poster wrote specifically that he didn't want the canned answer!!!

What kind of cheating it is if I'm wondering whether I should play by the book? If the law is such that companies get benefits, then why not have a company as a hobby.

German law: It's fine to run a company as a hobby. If you try to get your VAT back, then the item must be only used for company use. If you lose money, and the IRS suspects you are running the company as a hobby, they tell you and your losses are not tax deductible. You should then accept this under protest, which means if you make money three years later and prove them wrong, you will get your tax deductions back.

And if your company has no income they will be very suspicious and suspect that your new Mac wasn't actually used for company business and they think you think they are stupid, and that is bad news for you.
