what time ?

when on friday will these be available at the apple stores ? if i remeber correctly, leopard went on sale at 6pm.

Why? Apple advertises the easy native installation of Windows on Macs as a feature. So the hypothetic poster is not doing something 'bad'.

And because it's an Air, he had Leopard from the start, so he is entitled to use the 29.- version.

What's wrong with you....

Then "he" should have at least been civil. As opposed to argumentative. That is what "he" should have done.

"He" will learn the answer to "his" question at the same time we all will.

And, nothing is wrong with me, thanks for asking, though. How are you/him?

Hey did anyone who ordered 10.6 through the Up-to-date program have their shipment status change?

Hey did anyone who ordered 10.6 through the Up-to-date program have their shipment status change?

Not mine. I now have two orders pending, one UTD, and one normal pre-order:

MAC OS X 10.6 SNOW LEOPARD RETAIL-INT
Ships: Delivers on Aug 28th

and

MAC OS X10.6 SNOWLEOPARD UTD FULLFIL-INT
Ships: September

I have two Macs, so I'm quite comfortable ordering it twice. I could have ordered Family Pack, but, oh well....

so I wonder if the upgrade path, the disc is different. how will they know? We can do a clean install with the Leopard --> SL upgrade yes?

The press release didn't mention a specific launch time. Therefore, I assume it will be available when the store opens.

Does this mean my Mini I just bought from the Refurbed store will come with Snow Leopard.

Honor system. Some people do take pride in only using legal software, that is, software that has been properly licensed.

Using wrongly licensed software = stealing.

Agreed. I purchased the Leopard Mac Box Set Family Pack for my computers at home a couple of weeks ago. Only have 2 currently (will get a third soon). 1 17" PPC Powerbook, 1 Intel iMac, and 1 (to be) 13" MacBook Pro. The two current machines were on Tiger, and I needed them updated to Leopard anyway.

I wanted the PPC updated to the last OS it'll support, and was so far behind on iLife and iWork that it wasn't even funny anymore. When I get the 13" MBP, I'll be able to install iWork on it legally.

I can now purchase SL for $30 and have all my machines up to the latest.

No I didn't have to spend that money, I could've done it differently, but it accurately reflects what I do and will be using at home. So it is the right thing to do.

there is ZERO possibility that you must have leopard to install snow leopard. there is no "upgrade" version of SL (with the exception, possibly, of the UTD disc). [EDIT: this is incorrect. the $29 version is an upgrade only version and the box set is the full version.]

civil meaning...?? He asked with a hypothetical scenario, and didn't flag is as such. I dare anyone in there to throw the first stone if they haven't done the same thing at some time in their life...

And if life is only about finding out things at the time that the great Apple has planned to inform us, then what is the raison d'être of this site?? :)

I'm good, I don't know about him :p

VAT + Import Duty. Usually it's approximately 24% all in.

Which would be $35, or at the current exchange rate, £22.

So you could argue that they are overcharging by £3. But they'll argue that they have to ship it into the UK, pay other transit and handling fees, and so on.

In the bad old days you'd be paying £29, in the usual $=£ scam.

This does not add up. In the UK, as in most if not all of the EU there is none, repeat ZERO import duty to be paid on computer hardware or software. The only thing we should be stung for is VAT, which at 15% does not begin to add up to the difference between $29 and £21.74. Our equivalent net price converted to US dollars is $35.

As for logistics, it all depends where the disks will be pressed. Microsoft stamps all of its European disks in Ireland, which simplifies the tax situation for most and reduces shipping costs.

Why people are moaning is because it looks like Apple is slipping back into its bad ways again. Where software leads, hardware will follow. It will be interesting to see how much we will be expected to fork out for the next round of updates.

Snow Leopard Up-To-Date Program

Chat with an Apple Representative, he seems to have said what was contrary to other peoples conversations with Apple Representatives. I don't know whether or not he may be misinformed or not, but here it is:

You are chatting with Brian D, an Apple Expert

Brian D: Hi, my name is Brian D. Welcome to Apple!
Brian D: Good morning.
You: hi
You: I have a question regarding my Snow Leopard Up To Date Order I preordered Snow Leopard on June 26 (Order Number: REDACTED) and this morning, Snow Leopard was announced that it would ship August 28. However, in the order details, my copy is still slated to ship in September. Does this mean I won't be getting Snow Leopard when it is released?
Brian D: I'm happy to assist with that. You will still get it when it's released. We just pushed up the release time from September. It will ship later this week and then that is when you'll see it updated.
You: ok, so even though my order status still says, ships: September, I will still be getting it when it is released, on the 28th?
Brian D: Yes.
You: ok, thanks for clearing that up for me

Yyeeeeeehaaaaa!!

Ordered my copy at lunchtime from Applestore UK, sale confirmation email states:

'We estimate your order to be shipped by August 28th.
We expect your order will arrive by post to your shipping address on or before.'

Fingers are crossed that it arrives by Friday!! :)

With all the comments that you must have Leopard installed to install the Snow Leopard Upgrade, we are mostly making assumptions. We do not know for sure that we need to have Leopard installed, and it seems odd that you would not have an option for a clean install and erase, that would mean that everyone who buys SL would never be able to totally recover easily from a total system meltdown if everything got corrupted and they wanted to start fresh.

I have had software in the past that when you installed an upgrade to it, it wants you to insert the original CD at least momentarily to verify that you are eligible for upgrade. I am wondering if Snow Leopard will be the same. Maybe we can do a clean install but at the start of the install process it will ask us to validate that we own a full version of Leopard by inserting the Leopard CD, seems to make sense?

no it doesnt, you cleanly install leopard, then straight after cleanly install the update.

It helps prevent piracy.

that again is an assumption, if you owned the original Leopard disk and the installer could validate that, it is the same thing, still helps prevent piracy. Apple hasn't said how the update install will work yet so until they tell us we can only guess.

Can anyone confirm if I can do an Erase and Install (clean install) from Leopard to Snow Leopard with the $29 upgrade disc? I just contacted Apple Customer Service via online chat, and they said that I couldn't, which I find hard to believe. Doesn't it just validate that you have 10.5 already installed when you put the disc in?

I guess I could do a clean install of 10.5 and then go for a straight upgrade to 10.6 afterwards, but how ugly is that?

Is that correct ? Can I make a clean install of SL with a "upgrade" version or not ?

Mine said that too, but after I ordered my order acknowledgment e-mail said priority overnight shipping by 3 p.m. on Friday.

Update: Looks like the order I placed this morning is already "prepared for shipment."

Thanks for the heads up. I just preordered mine as well and it says "Delivers on August 28th" now.

I have a question regarding the install process for Snow Leopard. Since it's not out yet, there may be no final answer, but I was wondering - for those of us with Leopard, can we do a full clean install of Snow Leopard even though we'll only have purchased an "upgrade"?
