Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until Sept. to get my up-to-date SL. So, 4 days to a week longer? I guess plan B, to hold off on upgrading until after the first official SL Software Update, will have to do. Probably a smart idea than plan A, upgrade immediately, see what happens. I am a little down about not getting SL at the same time as everyone else though. Specially since Apple had charged my CC just last week.

Anyone else having problems with the £7.95 upgrade?

I'm trying to order SL, and click the URL here to participate and after logging in it just takes me to an empty cart.

(And yes, cookies are enabled)

I recently bought a MBP, and i remember in the past how Apple has given a free upgrade to those who bought new computers within 90 days of the release. Will I be able to get a free upgrade as well? Or will I need to go through the "Up-to-date" program?

I think the answer was adequate, even polite, given that you willfully wasted this persons time and energy.

Actually, I work in support as a manager and I would not tolerate this type of behavior from my technicians. The rep simply could have said either:

A. You can wipe out Windows 7 and install Snow Leopard without issue on your Macbook Air
or
B. You'll need to wipe out Win7, install Leopard and then install Snow Leopard.

The rep "hanging up" is simply rude.

Fusion (with the host 32-bit mode that is), but

Is there a guide yet to install it (have looked on the APple site but without luck).

Will it work with VMWare Fusion?

Thanks

the wait for a 64-bit (host) compatible version probably won't be long. ;)

So how many of you are going to get Snow Leopard on Friday? I'm thinking about waiting for the first update to come out before I take the plunge! What do you think.

I think this could have been asked in the front page thread or in the Mac OS X forum, but shouldn't have been asked in the Mac Applications forum.

After the pain of 10.5.0 there is no way I will be going anywhere near 10.6 until I am completely convinced it is stable with all my applications, period. I will not put myself the torture of waiting for 10.6.2.

True indeed. After hearing the horror stories about the launch of Leopard, I'm not taking the risk with Snow Leopard until the .1 update is released.

Is it true that Snow Leopard is preorder only and that it will not be available in store on Friday?

This is a conversation I just had with Apple Online.

Clearly this person has no Idea.

Look at the e-mail. it clearly states come in Friday and pick up a copy.

The apple store employee I spoke to here, said when they open it will be available for purchase.

Thats what the UTD program is, a free upgrade to SL. You pay shipping and handling

But the original question was if we can do this with the "upgrade" version of Snow Leopard:

I thought I'd give Apple's online help a whirl to see if they could answer my question regarding the Snow Leopard upgrade. I wanted to know whether I could do a clean install with the Snow Leopard upgrade version.
I'm actually running Leopard at the moment

Other people say exactly the opposite of what you said :(

Hopefully the updates will be worth the $29, but I will wait an see how it goes for the early adopters before jumping on the bandwagon.

Yes. And it can't be that when an Apple girl hears 'Windows' they immediately hang up, whew, thank god they don't have to deal with a customer. Because that's NOT what customer service people have as an attitude, right. (I do work in this line of field, and people DO have this attitude sometimes. Get rid of the customer as soon as he says something that might even remotely be not connected to your product.)

And the civil answers that people got when asking the 100% honest question were really that much more helpful, right? I'd assume that 5 days from launch, the people behind the telephones should be prepared to answer this kind of question. As it seems, I'm wrong, and with me a lot of other callers.

Yes, they were more helpful, in that it's as much of an answer as exists right now.

And you should know that when it says, "this call may be recorded for quality control purposes", it means, among other things, "if our people are rude or inefficient, we will retrain or replace them, as we don't pay them enough for them to know how to deal with the stresses of people calling to be rude or lie to them".

And yes, IMO, you were wrong. And there is no safety in numbers.

True indeed. After hearing the horror stories about the launch of Leopard, I'm not taking the risk with Snow Leopard until the .1 update is released.

I've always managed to buy a new Mac just before an OS release. Tiger, Leopard and now SL. I upgraded from Jaguar to Tiger on launch. NO PROBLEMS. From Tiger to Leopard on launch. NO PROBLEMS. If my iMac that arrives tomorrow doesn't have SL on it, I'll be upgrading from Leopard to SL at launch.

Why do you think you'll be among the minority that ever has an OS X installation prob?

As for software compatibility, there is a SL wiki online (see upthread somewhere) that lists software that's in/compatible with SL.

Looks like it...

I agree. I thought the features of Leopard were compelling enough to move from Tiger. Sounds like Apple may get their $129 Leopard license + $29 upgrade out of them either way.

I didn't see the point of purchasing Leopard when I heard that the next operating system was going to be called Snow Leopard - to be honest, at the time, I thought that with a name like that, 10.6 was an admission that something was wrong with 10.5. I thought I'd save me some pennies... guess not.

Though OS + iLife + iWork isn't too bad since I do use most of the software in the package - my only reservation is the '09 variants of the software and my wait for 10.6.3

But yes, one way or the other, if I want Snow Leopard (and, assuming that there are no show-stoppers when it comes to running it on a C2D GMA950, I do especially for the Exchange Support) then Apple gets £129. The price seems immune to student discounts too...

"Developer Store" ???

10a432 is available at ADC.

But if 432 is not the final build when will the final be available... that's my question?

How likely is build 10A432 the gold master? Have Apple ever released a GM that wasn't a build released via developer preview?

Now that the announcement has been made I can say this much about the build number.

Apple Developer Connection has never had a "preview release" instantly turn into the "Gold Master" or the "Retail Version".. They have always put up the GM/Retail version on the ADC site the same day as release. In this case I'm guessing the GM/Retail version will be on the ADC site Friday. Aug.28th.

Now the reason I believe 10A432 is NOT the "GM" or "Retail Version" is because the "Preview Version" has a LOT of debug code in it whereas the GM/Retail version has very little. It is the same as the shipping version.

10A435 or 10A436 will be the GM build number.

As a side..This also means Jobs will not be doing the 9/9/9 keynote and there will not be any Apple Touch at that event because if there were any surprises one would see reference to it in the Retail version of Snow Leopard.
