+8% customs duty for import, then 22% VAT for B-to-C sales. That is about 33% total; then again, once you factor in all other random costs and US-to-EUR exchange rates, you can roughly say:

1 USD (without tax) = 1 EUR (with tax)

That is, using exchange rates, duties and taxes that are relevant today.

OSX = Hero

dragged the picture off of apple.com and interestingly the picture's name is

No. The installer on the update version will check to see if you have 10.5 installed before letting you install 10.6. So as long as you have 10.5 on your computer you are good to go.

On the so called GM Build I Formatted my drive and did a clean install.

Not entirely sure what you mean.

The "upgrade" Snow Leopard DVD is a full installer. All it does is check that you have Leopard already installed, then you can do whatever you like - upgrade, archive and install, clean install, etc.

If you don't have Leopard already installed, you either need to buy Leopard and buy the Snow Leopard upgrader, or buy the Snow Leopard Box Set which includes iLife and whatever else it was, plus a DVD of Snow Leopard that does not require a previous install of Leopard.

Now I am confused. I ordered the full box set stand alone disc, as it was previously claimed the erase and install feature was removed in the upgrade disc version.

Does anyone know what time it will be available at the apple stores? Leopard wasn't available until 6pm. The reason I'm interested is that I'm off during the day, but I start work at 5pm. If it's 6pm, I may try to make other work arrangements.

The reason I want to go to the store is that for Tiger and Leopard they gave out t-shirts, and I want to have a complete set.

You're not serious, are you?

@ Tallest Skil

Yes, you are right, the customer service online is very poor and cannot understand anything other than that which is already on their website, which is pointless because that's where you are when you press the chat button.
:(

Hmm, I hadn't heard that - that would annoy a lot of people I think.

In the UK, do we know when it's gonna ship and how? My up-to-date order is probably gonna take forever, especially if they ship by Royal Fail considering it's a bank holiday on Monday.

I'd love to know what exchange rate Apple base their UK prices on. We seem to be getting shafted. How does USD$29.99 translate to UK£25.00?
Gits.

Ok just noticed that this has already been commented on. Damn time lapse with comments posting and then appearing.

i love how everyone in the UK (being like me) are moaning about £10 for an operating system, whereas Apple are swindling hundreds off us with their hardware?

People seem to be saying that it delivers on 28th Aug. Are these US orders that people are talking about?

The online chat lady just told me that if I order online in the UK it will ship on 28th Aug and be delivered within 5-7 business days.

Can anyone in the UK confirm that they have ordered online and received a 28th Aug delivery date? Otherwise, may as well just go into the Apple store on Friday or Saturday - especially as its a bank holiday weekend this weekend so Monday isnt a business day for post.

I have ordered mine and only says shipped by the 28th doesnt give a delivery date. I would take the online chat with a pinch of salt, they are only sales people. The problem with rest of the world is its going through the normal postal services i'm guessing Apple will post the boxes out by the 28th on a first come first served basis, so i wouldn't be surprised if we got it on the 28th but due to the postal services they cant say that. I wouldn't know. I'm hoping it is posted before that day (and i'm guessing it will since it says by). But i don't know, and i'm guessing sales people won't know anymore. So its up to you if you risk it or pop down to apple.

That's what many have assumed. I don't think anyone has a definite answer. We'll find out Friday.

Someone will surely try a leaked torrent before that ;D Alas, here's another quote from another thread, luckily this gives us slight hope...

I had the same question. I called the Apple Sales number and they said it was possible to do a clean install without having Leopard or Snow Leopard pre-installed with the UTD disc.

My UK order email says -

''

We estimate your order to be shipped by By August 28th.
We expect your order will arrive by post to your shipping address on or before .

''

If by "we" you mean "Apple" because they're giving you a 64-bit OS, streamlined, updated, and stripped of all unnecessary parts for size, speed, and RAM usage with tools for multithreading to take advantage of the newest processors for less than $50, then yes, I agree.

wow whats the deal with this guy, pure fanboy

I bet he has not even tried any of the snow leopard builds hehe

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

So if you need 10.5 does the box set come with 10.5 and 10.6?
Or is it one disk with the two on it which would be different from the normal 10.6 disks????
Confusing or what??

So what would you have paid?

The equivalent price US customers pay - as was the point of the original comment.

Various people have now pointed out the vagaries of different international tax systems and rates which goes some way to explaining the initial apparent unfairness of the pricing.

Your response was still MAJOR fanboy though:D

I'm usually an early adopter, but have so much upcoming work that I cannot afford to be working through glitches. Any idea how long it normally takes before the major bugs are worked out?

Also, is there a way to see if there will be any software compatibility problems?

thanks!

After the pain of 10.5.0 there is no way I will be going anywhere near 10.6 until I am completely convinced it is stable with all my applications, period. I will not put myself the torture of waiting for 10.6.2.

Ask Gordon Brown why you are paying VAT. Then ask him why the pound is so low compared to the dollar right now. Then ask him if Apple is paying any import duties. Then calm down some, and then come back here.

I'm in the UK and have placed an order and have recieved my confirmation email, which says:

"We estimate your order to be shipped by By August 28th.
