The obvious question when will they actually hold an in person event again? Is this the new normal?
I'm sure they're looking into going back to in-live events as soon as possible, since journalists can be there and directly report what's happening, also getting first look at things.

iOS 16 is gonna be another iOS 15 with very small tweaks and things most people won’t need, I doubt there will be a redesign, but all I want is an option to remove the home bar I hate it
It ain't gonna happen.
I don't see the fuzz with that. What is the problem really??

We also need a battery percentage indicator to come back on an iPhone desperately. Getting old and tired of swiping the screen down just to check on the battery indicator. ??
People really should stop worrying about the battery and start using the phone itself.

Because it's inclusive for a larger audience, and the quality of the pre-produced tech presentations is way higher than live sessions ever were?
I'd agree here. I've never attended an in-person one (not a developer) but instead watched the streams. That being the case, the switch from live to virtual didn't impact me. That being said though...I do like the virtual ones better. Seeing how much shorter the keynotes are really show you just how much "filler" there was in the past. Now, (for the most part) they just get straight to the point.

My guess is they may eventually do a hybrid event. But for many developers, making a trip from thousands of miles away is a considerable expense to them or their companies. This is especially true with so many developers moving to lower-cost areas and/or working 100% remotely. And then there is the limited space available at in-person events creating a mad scramble for the few tickets.

Apple car! Apple is buying Disney! Apple is starting its own bank/financial network! Apple is going to create its own health network! Apple is going to build rockets! Apple is--

covid is over. why are they still doing this?
Covid is not over. People are still dying. People are still getting infected. Businesses are still experiencing disruption. 4.9 million people (out of a population of around ca. 65 million) in the UK have Covid (source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-60953501).

Omicron may be relatively mild compared to the other variants, but having Covid is still a very unpleasant experience, and it's still very transmissible. Why would Apple take the risk?

Lately, developers have discovered that they would rather stay on their couches at home than go out and meet people.
A bunch of folks known for being socially awkward don't wanna hang out with others they don't know? No way!

I've attended WWDC since the '90s. Most don't do much engaging with others. There isn't a huge value there for being in-person as oppose to virtual. I'm sure most would rather save the money on flights, hotels, food, etc too, especially the small developers. While some did use it as an opportunity to do business with groups they only see once a year, that's largely changed, especially as we've seen the internet and our connected world grow.

Most of the in-person interaction at WWDC was developers comparing d*cks and trying to out-nerd each other. It was sad to see. Though the saddest thing to see was how they acted when there was a female around.
