I feel like the pre-recorded keynote just doesn't carry the same passion. At the core of this company are people that are passionate about what they do and when it is edited and polished into these videos, I feel like that doesn't come across the same way.
I couldn't agree more. Apple needs to bring back in person events already.

A little surprised it's digital again. I suppose it saves Apple some money. Maybe they'll do it digital permanently and where at some point we'll all be participating in WWDC and all future Apple events through their Metaverse ?
Until Apple serves beverages and bar snacks, I'll watch the keynote at my local pub which has an Apple TV wired up to at least three TVs on their guest wifi network. Don't like the program or game they have on? No problem!

… plus the fact that the Digital WWDC events are:
•free, not $1600+ hotels, travel expenses, food
• unlimited worldwide attendance, instead of being capped around 5000 attendees who can travel to or live in the US

Plus, for Apple, they can get as many of their people to participate virtually, instead of trying to stuff A certain amount of them into a convention center.
For both Apple and the developers, who this entire event is for, there are way more benefits to the digital events than there are drawbacks.
I thought most people liked going to conventions.

The obvious question when will they actually hold an in person event again? Is this the new normal?

obvious answer: read.

"Though the event will be digital, Apple also plans to host a special day for developers and students at Apple Park on June 6 to watch the keynote and State of the Union videos together. Space will be limited, and Apple will take applications."

Apple announes Sideloading and lets developers choose any payment service they want. Besides that Tim will anounce a phenomenal, never seen before, connector - USB-C!!!

Probably should have read, ”Apple is expected to hold an online keynote on the first day of WWDC to unveil new buggy software, including iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, tvOS 16, and watchOS 9.” This years theme: Super Bugs…

I wish they would just take a few years off from new versions and fix the current crop of bugs.

Can't wait for them to announce the new 27" (or bigger) iMac. Take my money.
I’m hopeful for the iMac Pro 27”, Mac mini M1 Pro, and Mac Pro, but I’m only expecting the Mac Pro.

We also need a battery percentage indicator to come back on an iPhone desperately. Getting old and tired of swiping the screen down just to check on the battery indicator. ??
It’s still there on the Touch ID iPhones, since they don’t have the notch.

It’d be nice to get notchless iPhones back, or at least hole punch ones. Plus under screen Touch ID while they’re at it.

Developer here. I’m glad they’re staying digital. The developer videos from the last 2 WWDCs are WAY easier to follow than the live presentations, where presenters are often nervous and Apple is compelled to fill an hour of time. The pre-recorded videos are sometimes 10 minutes and get right to the point. They’re great! What I want to see:

- Big improvements to iPadOS
- I want SwiftUI to be considered the top way to make apps. I‘m rebuilding all my personal apps in SwiftUI and it is immeasurably easier to maintain and update these apps.
- Maps, maps, maps! It’s the 10th anniversary of Apple Maps and I’m hoping for some deep SwiftUI integration.
- Better SwiftUI integration with ALL Apple frameworks. This is already easier than UIKit, but there’s another level they can go.

For me it’s all about SwiftUI. It’s been the most welcome change in my development work and will allow me to make better apps moving forward.

I’ll take vertical split screen for iOS on iPhone and a Music app on macOS that isn’t doo-doo butter.
THIS.

And I'll add that ALL Apple apps (Music in particular) FREAKING ROTATE WHEN THE PHONE IS IN LANDSCAPE.

Yes, I'm a little salty about this. One of the frustrating things I "enjoy" since migrating from Android.

I don't know if I should fill up my car with gas a few times or just get a base Mac Mini anymore. I hope they have some good announcements at the conference. I really enjoy the entry-level Macs performance and prices compared to the expensive Intel days.

M2 Mac Mini, plz

I'll take a M2 Pro-powered Mac mini, thanks...! ;^p
  • 12-core CPU (8P/4E)
  • 16-core GPU (w/hardware ray tracing?)
  • 32GB LPDDR5 SDRAM
  • 200GB/s UMA
  • 1TB NVMe SSD
  • 10Gb Ethernet
  • Space Gray
  • $2099
They didn't announce any hardware last year or in 2020. Not sure I'd count on it this year. WWDC has been less and less about hardware over the years.

WWDC 2022 seems the perfect place to preview the all-new Apple silicon Mac Pro...?

I’m hopeful for the iMac Pro 27”, Mac mini M1 Pro, and Mac Pro, but I’m only expecting the Mac Pro.

I feel Apple is moving away from the All-In-One iMacs (excepting the entry-level 24" Mn iMac), what with them now being a "Double Disposal" computing appliance...?

As for the ASi Mac Pro, WWDC2022 seems the perfect place to preview it...!

I just want to see Craig Frederighi walk out with an iPad Pro and reveal to us a completely overhauled iPadOS. One that supports floating windows, true external monitors support, Final Cut, better multi-tasking.

With Mn SoCs in the iPad Pro models, we should get an extended display scheme...

Meaning one internal display (iPad Pro display) & one external display; Extended, NOT Mirrored...!

Gospel
too bad this is very true and not fixable, we are led to believe.

anyways
I missed the last couple of  presentations and find them not totally fulfilling their boast.
case in point, your iPad app will work on the new MacBook M!s as some guy belched in 2019.

That's the M2 Studio not the M2 Mini.

Uh, no... It is an upgraded (SoC, RAM, SSD, & Ethernet) base M2 Pro-powered Mac mini...

A base M2 Max Mac Studio would have:
  • 12-core CPU (8P/4E)
  • 24-core GPU (w/32-core option)
  • 32GB LPDDR5 SDRAM (w/64GB option)
  • 400GB/s UMA
  • 512GB NVMe SSD
  • 10Gb Ethernet
  • Space Gray (hopefully)
  • $1999

I used to love Apple Keynotes. I would set alarms for them, watch them during classes, rewatch them again after they were over, download them to my iPhones to watch whenever I wanted.

Sadly those days are long gone. Steve Jobs was irreplaceable - nobody can command his presence on stage - I get that.

But Steve made you believe in the products he was presenting. He made you excited about them.

Tim Cook does neither. He's nothing more than a robot on stage going through the motions. His stage presence is abysmal and every Apple Keynote he has helmed has been nothing more than ticking off the checkboxes on a bullet point list.

Sad.
