Oh yes. Certainly hard core users would be mortified by those precious milliseconds.

And here lies the problem. I've got a feeling Apple would want a mass market device like the iPhone and rock the world. Maybe not quite Eddie Van Halen, but there you go.

You mean the problem that it’s the most valuable company in the world?

And when it comes to AR/VR, those precious milliseconds actually matter much more than a smartphone or tablet. 90hz is the bare minimum for a base (not hardcore) experience.

No cameras, no eye-tracking, no EyeSight. It's difficult to compare.
Cameras and eyesight were part of the weight problem I was proposing has already been solved by another solution. Did not say it is for comparison, just that other solutions have been put forth, vetted and overwhelming approved by the VR community.

Beyond, now has eye tracking mod.

Good to see the launch finally happening. Will be months before its availability expands outside the US

I'm skeptical of this VR stuff at this time. And I think that's a lot of $$ to spend on a 1st generation product.

But...I've also learned not to bet against Apple. I mean, I was skeptical of the iPad when it was first introduced. "Why would anyone need a pad like device when I can just use a cheap laptop instead?" And when the Apple Watch was launched, I was also skeptical. "Why does anyone need this? Hardly anyone wears watches any longer."

Guess what though? I own an iPad (4th gen Air) and an Apple watch (series 5) now. So Apple tends to know what they're doing. We shall see if this follows a similar path.

Their demo video looked like it was written by The Onion. “You’ll still be able to see people. And they can see you.”

Really? These Incel Goggles don’t provide a cloak of invisibility? What a shame. And I’m glad users can still see me.

Because I want them to know exactly who it was who slapped them upside the head for spending $3,499 on this junk.

Buying VR isn't incel behavior, but wanting to slap someone because they did something you don't approve of is.

I would disagree. 127grams for Bigscreen Beyond.
Not nearly the same resolution. And where are the sensors and cameras for eye and gesture tracking?

They are only superficially comparable

Interesting time for Apple. People keep saying they can't innovate, here they attempt to try something compelling in the VR space by making an AR device and try to change the shape of computing, putting our a device we would see only in movies a decade ago, and they are ripping Apple for making such a device.

I can definitely see the potential of this device (and the societal downfalls of such a device), but I commend Apple for taking a crack at this space to see how they can shake it up.

No carry case yet from anyone? Wondering if we could see screen protectors for the front glass becoming available

Sitting alone in your living room wearing $3,500 ski goggles and playing Super Fruit Ninja on them definitely qualifies.

And what does creating a new account simply to call others incel qualify as? Because you’ve never sat and played games alone before doesn’t mean everyone who does is somehow wrong, and there are plenty with $3500 gaming rigs even if you can’t.

It qualifies as a public service.

But back to the goggles. What is the perceived benefit?

Chuckles.

The perceived benefit of the Apple Vision Pro (in my opinion only) is to 1) break the tether between computer and large physical screens, 2) allow for a more immersive (dare I say 3D) interaction with your files/work/entertainment, 3) provide a more intuitive way of working/relaxing. That's the hope. We shall see the reality in a matter of weeks. Some of that will only be a hint, some of it I expect Apple will have nailed perfectly.

If that’s all you can envision them for, uh, well, that’s a very odd takeaway from what they will actually be used for. But some folks have foresight others don’t. Obviously not the product for you.

This is Apple. It will sell out and be back ordered. I’ve no doubt that the initial hype will definitely perceive this as a successful product. Who knows in the long run though.

It will sell out and be back ordered.
This type of headline always annoys me with new products. There's no way to qualify popularity based on sell out status if numbers aren't released.

Will Apple make 100 units or 100,000 for sale?
