I guess thats one way to get people to save up all year for one. Building up hype throughout the year so there will actually be 3rd party apps on it by xmas time. But this design is too costly. It looks like this could be the Pro headset price, the basic headset could simply pair up with any newish Apple computer or laptop of a certain spec. I can't see this thing being a must have device, considering it is mostly for gaming at a price ridiculously higher than gaming PC's that can also do real work. I don't care how neat it is, what business is going to force its employees to use it like they can a cheap tablet? No real government use either. No triple A games are going to be on it probably ever unless they partner with Nintendo. Plus once they make all their GPU's handle ray tracing, this will feel like every hobbled G1 device Apple has ever made, but these days paying $4k for maybe two years of solitary entertainment is, thats not were the world is.

Ha. Go buy the cheap ones then. What brand car you drive?
I made 7 figures last year and my wife and I both have Toyotas 🤣
We’ve seen a half dozen of our neighbors in our immediate area driving AMG and Uber luxery cars end up in bankruptcy and their homes foreclosed on. Poking fun at someone’s auto of choice is hilarious.

I really thought they would produce a bit more fanfare about the release of this one, maybe hold off until WWDC and show it off then announce its coming out 'today' or something like that.
They don’t want everyone buying it yet.

They already had a keynote for it last year. A second keynote would be redundant at this point.
It woudl be redundant if it repeated the first. I think there will be a second keynote, but it will focus on OS changes and probably talk about the apps coming out for it. These are things they couldn’t talk about last year.

I agree. That’s why I chose to spend my hard earned monies on a real nice race bice*.

Your suggestion would make the computational latency much slower. You don’t want to have data traveling through a long cord for a device like this if you want the best responsive experience.

Oh yes. Certainly hard core users would be mortified by those precious milliseconds.

And here lies the problem. I've got a feeling Apple would want a mass market device like the iPhone and rock the world. Maybe not quite Eddie Van Halen, but there you go.

That's cold. So the car we drive determines our value/income?
I drive a dozen or so classic cars, my favorite being a '48 Buick hearse. I dunno what that says about me but I like to keep 'em guessing!
As for the Vision Pro, I'm getting two. Apple has been planning on this for a long time and I applaud the effort and direction.

you'd think they'd put info about more detailed pricing and stuff before this goes up for presale or let ya preconfigure some. at such a high price point its kind of a big decision

I am going to buy two. One to use; one to keep sealed in the box to sell on eBay for $1 million in twenty years.
Same. People made fun of the original iPhone, but here we are.

I'm also interested in if/when these will support MDM? Considering the Apple Watch now supports MDM, never say never. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if some companies like architectural firms will use these. Sure, there are cheaper VR goggles, but, again, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some who will buy this.

I'm in same situation and used to only drive Lexus due to reliability. Eventually I realized that they are so boring to drive and had to up my game 3 years ago to BMW and Porsche. Actually less issues with these than the Lexus the past 3 years, and my drives are much more rewarding.

The CPU is not what makes it heavy. It’s the lenses, the mechanics, the eye-tracking, the cameras, the front display, and the frame that needs to hold everything together.

The camera–>CPU/GPU–>display path also needs to be extremely fast in order to achieve the low latency required for mixed reality. An external solution would complicate that.
I would disagree. 127grams for Bigscreen Beyond.

My questionable opinion is that this is designed wrong. Since there's a belt clip battery and it's tethered, wouldn't it make more sense to house the cpu there, and make it modular? Make the eyewear as light as possible? You could use a version of a phone. Sell more phones, create upgrade paths. I could really get into this. This is something the great Steve Jobs might have done, setting goals for eyepiece weight, which really needs to be a a certain spec for something like this to go mainstream.

Just not this version.
Yeah if you're gonna tether anyway then definitely make the headset as light as possible and put everything not needed on the hip. Just make sure the battery is still hot-swappable. Makes a lot more sense!

It will never go mainstream the way it is.

There are two groups here. Ones like yourself, and everyone else. The few and the many, la di da. Tim just chose the few, this time. But shareholders are not happy (guessing), as there's no money in niche. Apple is slipping.

But It's cool stuff, just like the Newton. So wtf.

Not sure why you are replying that to me. I'm very sceptical about the AVP and not interested in buying one. I am, however, interested in why products are designed the way that they are.

No cameras, no eye-tracking, no EyeSight. It's difficult to compare.

256GB of storage for $3500 is a joke.
AS IF the AVP exists to be an SSD? Dude, not everything is about SSD size (or RAM size.)

Very clearly, you are supposed to stream with the AVP, and use iCloud of another Apple device if you want to store lots of files.
