Well looking at Ventura license I see we still do not really own it it is clearly owned by apple and licensed to us for use on official apple hardware we do own. So its part of the hardware and apple can change things including making changes, killing/stopping features and so on…..
Yeah, it hasn’t been “moving to” a world where you will own nothing for awhile, especially in software. It’s all licensed for use in specific ways. Just because someone’s not paying attention to it doesn’t mean it’s not happening. :)

The subscription model is not for everyone. Apple knows that. Those who don’t want to pay, won’t have access. That simple. There is LumaFusion and DaVinci Resolve. No iPadOS users are forced to use 1 app.

Do I think Apple will convert the desktop apps to subscription, no. Apple knows that 100% of MacOS users pay full price.

Seeing as how I’ve been using Logic and FCPX on my M1 Mac for the last few years, I’m surprised it took them this long to release it for iPad. As far as the subscription model goes, subscribing to both of them would take six years to reach the cost of buying them outright. But in the latter scenario, I wouldn’t have to keep spending beyond that.

Such a slap in the face to "pros," especially if they already bought the mac versions.
To be fair, a “Pro” that needs to use Final Cut Pro on an iPad is likely making a few tweaks away from the office in order to complete a contract worth far more than 5 bucks.

The subscription-based element will be its downfall. Editors are sick of paying monthly or yearly fees for their software. They’ve been moving away from Premiere to FCPX or Resolve for this very reason. Apple seems to be very ignorant of that fact.

scummy subscription? nope. will just continue to use them on my macbook air that takes about the same amount of space in my bag as an ipad..

The subscription model is not for everyone.

It’s still a bad way to lead.

It encourages more and more companies to keep doing Subs only.

So one day people will have so many subs that by the time they are retired they will be broke and have no money.

Subs are very costly in the long run.

It’s just capitalism ****ing over everyone and making billionaires richer.

Subscription model? Cringe.
Apple should have started their statement that it was going to be a subscription, then I wouldn't have wasted time reading anything else about it. I'll now be looking into switching to a different editor. Subscriptions for software are a big mistake for Apple. That's why many people left Adobe....

Dayum, not a fan of subscriptions. Just why, why do they have to do this? At least give us a choice between lifetime and timed plans. I’d be willing to pay €400 for this.
Thing is they don’t have to do this. They don’t live by the FCP sales. They develop the OS and HW for it! The income from FCP will be negligible.
Pure Apple greed.
$400? That's 8 years at $50 a year! Sounds like you should be ok with the subscription model. You would get more current updates that way over the 8 year run.

Ohh geez,, I hate the idea of the Subscription model of any apps... Apple Pro Max Out your pocket Subscriptions - Plus max .... Ultra empty

I'm really excited about this. I've been using FCP on my iPad Pro for the last 2 or so years by running it on my iMac Pro and then using my iPad Pro as a second screen. It works surprisingly well mainly because of my iMac Pro punching above its weight in terms of power, but it has its little quirks and frustration points. Having a dedicated, iPad Pro-first coded app is going to be awesome!

The subscription model is garbage, especially for owners of the MacOS version, but it is reasonably priced annually, and I feel like it could actually get proper support now that there will be a user base paying more often than on desktop. I already pay extortionist fees for Creative Cloud that doesn't really offer any proper iPad apps, so having FCP on the desktop, and now on the iPad Pro, will make me feel more comfortable when the bill comes around compared to that Adobe invoice.

Really curious as to how Apple plans to handle those of us that want to create workflows between iPadPRO FCP & MacOS FCP and juggle back and forth between the two.

The subscription (ONLY!) option is an absolute NO GO for me. I‘d have gladly put like $100-$150 on the table for an unrestricted, unlimited license of LP but I know from the studio that subscription models get out of hand quickly. Lots of plugin vendors jumped on the subscription bandwagon. And those $4.99/month are getting multiplied with every plugin you rent.

I don‘t care much about FCP for iPad (working with Lumafusion) or LP for iPad (working with LP for Mac) - but I am worried that LP 11 for iPad AND MacOS will be subscription ONLY in the (near) future…

Oh barf. A subscription model! I'd want to see a one-time licensing model (fine if they also offer subscription) with availability to upgrade to the next major version either by paying full price again or paying upgrade price. Seriously despise subscription models.
The big issue is when they start adjusting App Store fees. One year it’s £49.99 the next it’s £59.99.

There are some people that feel that, because they once bought a product with an Apple logo on it, that EVERY thing the Apple logo company makes should be for them (as payback for them having bought a product with an Apple logo on it).

MacOS will be sunset before the macOS versions go subscription.

Do you mean changing subscription fees? Like 49.99 for this year's renewal and then next year it's 59.99? Yeah, that would be terrible.

I don't understand why a wealthy company like Apple needs a subscription model. It's not needed to sustain their resources.

Reads to me this is all about greed. A neoliberal capitalist way to continually monetize everything and make all exchanges and procedures be about a monetary transaction.

So you get 6 years of the SW (50 USD per year) for the current 300$ price , for the users that actually use FCP , what are the intervals in which you need to buy a newer version (if at all) ?

I don't understand why Apple is so ignorant of this fact about subscriptions. It's fine on something like Apple TV, but NOT software. I'll bet Resolve is delighted in this announcement as their community will now grow by leaps and bounds as everyone switches over to Resolve....

My immediate reaction is that I very much hope this doesn’t mean:

1) Logic Pro on Mac will be hobbled in order match iOS version

2) Logic Pro on Mac doesn’t become a subscription

Edit:

mainstage on ipad is something I can see being useful
