Can you explain how? If I can use my Flash Drive, a Keyboard and Mouse/Trackpad as well as my Pencil, I can do as much or more as I can on desktop and it’s more precise. I can also hook up to a projector. Collaboration too. Keynote, Pages, Numbers, GarageBand, and iMovie all work fine for iPad. Now we can add Logic and Final Cut.
I am using Pages, Numbers and Keynote and the desktop versions are much better. The iPad keyboard sucks big time and I don't see the point in turning the iPad into a desktop. Just get a Mac Studio or/and a MacBook Pro.
The iPad has its place, but only as a secondary device. Of course people will try to use it as a computer. Masochism is a common issue these days.

Uggggg not Apple too!

How long until final cut and logic on the Mac become subscription only.

Subscription model? Cringe.
$5 per month. One hopes that if you really are a "pro" you are making more than $5 per month with this software. Lease fees like this are also 100% tax deductible. So maybe you after-tax cost is only $40 per year.

That said I just bought FCP for my new Mac and I just cannot see myself using FCP on anything less than my 27" screen.

Exactly. The iPad has a 12.9" display. It's not the biggest canvas to work. Of course it's perfect for small edits and to watch stuff. Yes, you can connect the iPad to an external display, but serious Pros will definitely have Mac Pros or Mac Studios, connected to multiple monitors. Nobody will want to use an iPad for that. Maybe Prosumers, but definitely no real pros in this area.

$5 a month is too low if anything. These are pro apps that generate a lot of revenue for the people using them. Ordinary people aren't going to buy and learn to use this stuff. I can see pricing settling a lot higher in future to keep the products sustainable.

I think part timer could also be pro. In any case, not only iPad Pros are supported but the M1 iPad Air as well. I think they could have made everyone happy if they would have offered a one time purchase option at a higher price.

Maybe first see what the exact features of the iPad version are? Maybe it's not as feature complete as the macOS version..

Immediate next question is: (when) will the desktop versions follow the same subscription model?
Worrying...

I expect the ipad versions will be even more feature rich in a lot of ways. This are going to be the modern versions whereas desktop is legacy much like macos itself. The future is iPad Pro.

2 days after I finally broke down and spent almost $100 upgrading DaVinci Resolve on the iPad to pro. Anyway, not available until 5/23 and I needed it now.

I don't use either one professionally, but the opportunity to rent Final Cut on iOS for a couple months for a tenspot makes it a tempting experiment.

Hey Apple, I will simplify the question to avoid you alibi: you have been selling iPads for years with the Pro suffix but above all with the Pro price without these having anything Pro.
Millions of customers believed it and had to think again, buying hw that ultimately costs, clutters and weighs like a MacBook Pro to find themselves hoping to have macOS for iPad.
It's simple: make sw Pro available for FREE for the hw Pro you sold.
I'm not an iPad Pro user in fact I find it pretty stupid, but if you don't want to run sw Pro on hw that doesn't hold it like the first iPad Pro agree, but at least those from 2018 it seems to me the least.

No, you still want money after taking over €2,000 for each iPad Pro user.

FRIENDLY REMINDER

Apple is not here to make you happy by using their products. That's a facade. Apple is here to have you 100% tied to their ecosystem and then will make everything in their powers to milk more money from you.

Expect more subscription models in the future.

Also fellow EU guys, do you think Apple is going to comply with this 3rd-party store law without a plan B to compensate for their financial losses? EXPECT RETALIATIONS.

The future of what exactly? Of Apple? Of video editing?
Don't get me wrong here, but the iPad is definitely not the way to go when working. We still need desktops and laptops and I don't see that changing in the next 10-15 years. When this change, then we will have some kind of other technology to replace our desktops and laptops. It will not be tablets...

This software isn’t even free if I buy a 2019 Mac Pro maxed out.

If Logic Pro for iOS will sync with Mac OS as a full-featured wireless control surface, I'm down.

Before you go out and buy an iPad Pro, compare render times between the iPad and the Mac Studio. As good as the iPad Pro is, it can not compare to any of the higher-end Macs.

That said, iPad might be a way to do smaller projects, maybe a travel blog or youtube short.

Good advice but I already have an iPad Pro M2.

I’m not expecting it to render a tv show with hundreds of shots, let alone a movie, but it’ll be able to render 2-5 minute videos with a few dozen shots I produce for social marketing content, while sitting in a laid back meeting with my team to finalize the video and pass it on to our community team to publish.

Shooting weddings, this opens up the possibility of editing the morning flashback while sitting in a car on the way to the reception. Then reusing that work by transferring the project to a Mac to edit the full video the day after. This will save a ton of time.

There’s a very valid use case for iPad as a professional tool.
