Exactly. The iPad has a 12.9" display. It's not the biggest canvas to work. Of course it's perfect for small edits and to watch stuff. Yes, you can connect the iPad to an external display, but serious Pros will definitely have Mac Pros or Mac Studios, connected to multiple monitors. Nobody will want to use an iPad for that. Maybe Prosumers, but definitely no real pros in this area.
There are rumors of larger iPads coming. People have been clamoring for “pro” apps for the iPad for years. Apple finally delivered two.

Professional creative tools for the masses, there are more iPad Pro's in existence than Mac Pro's. Look at who they used for the demos, these are modern day creative professionals as you can clearly see also have Studio displays and Mac Studio's in their work environments. But this is just one more tool that will componentize the Mac Pro experience. The Mac Pro at this point is nothing more than a halo product with not much industry pull as it once had 10 or 15 years ago.

An even larger iPad will be extremely difficult to hold and move around. It will be mainly for use on a desktop. In this case Apple must seriously improve its"Magic" keyboard, which doesn't offer a lot of choice in the viewing angles, when using an iPad.

The future of macOS is iPad Pro.
Sorry. MacOS and iPadOS will always be separate. There will be abilities that exists on both, but the iPad will become more of a Ultra portable power machine with a cellular connection where Mac will remain the workhourse.

iPad users and Mac users are completely different people.

That's a nope. The only product that does that is the Mac Studio and M2 Max MBP. The sheer power of the M1 Ultra and M2 Max proves that Mac Pro is semi-worthless.
Unless you are someone like me that needs more than 128 GB of RAM. Plus the noise on the Mac Studio is so irritating. Otherwise it would be a great product.

This software isn’t even free if I buy a 2019 Mac Pro maxed out.

I know, but it's not an excuse: a Mac Pro has other professional solutions, an iPad Pro without sw Pro is a joke, as much as an iPhone Pro, which of pro only has the price.

Ok. Yes. Those who up to 1.5TB RAM will definitely need more. The Mac Pro in that regard will always rein champ

iPads aren’t replacing desktop computers

Can a Mac Studio replace a Mac Pro, in most ways sure

ipads have nothing to do with it

Subscription model isn’t that terrible at 4.99, I would have a different opinion if it was 19.99.

It turns iPad FCPX into something which will satisfy hobbyists and - some power users who want Pencil support and a portable computer to do some quick edits (but as a complement to their existing MacOS setup).

This won’t be the exclusive device for the power user. After release, there will be some clickbait YouTubers readying up the bad faith takes about how slow the iPad version exports versus a Mac with active cooling. The iPad is going to have thermals that run below MacBook Air levels, so it isn’t going to be as fast. But it isn’t designed to be.

Instead of improving Logic and FCP they've been wasting their resources on iPad versions. There are hundreds of issues with the current Mac versions. Someone in Services needs to be fired for this idea.

You want to extend your Professional Products then sell studio gear to help. Both Avid and Black Magic sell the hardware with the software to scale up their productivity. Apple sells the OS and a computer when they need to make professional level audio and video gear with it.

I have no need for either app, but a subscription model does not bode well for the future of Apple software. Seriously disconcerting.
Software in general has shifted to a subscription model, including most enterprise software such as Microsoft 365 and Salesforce.

A Mac Pro without software is the same thing. You have some choices for iPad as well.

The only professional level audio gear I need apple to make is a decent scalable desktop computer with removable storage and plenty of i/o that doesn’t cost 8 zillion dollars

By the time my hackintosh needs replacing intel macos will be done and I really hope apple will have a decent desktop for me by then

A. Agreed.

B. Not even close. There is a reason people got excited about a Workstation in the Recording and Film studios and were far less interested when the Mac Studio arrived. Scalability doesn't exist.

The Xeons were old, but the resources to extend the system via PCI are obvious.

More and more studios are moving back to Analog audio gear that has been taken from Consoles to 1U/2U rack units at a fraction of the Console cost but with all the Console power.

Film is headed that way as well. Apple should build the work horse to allow studios to expand their footprint and options, not be boxed into a corner.

I like it... Logic Pro will be insta subbed! 50$ is ok for 1 year...so for the old prive of 200$ you get 4 years of subs...that shou.d be ok...and if you find out after 1 year that you don't really need it, you will find it's cheaper than before... Final Cut used to be 300$ (or is still on Mac OS)

I agree with you completely

Thus my caveat of “most”

Question - where will you store the FCP libraries? Will they be cloud synced?

Both iCloud and external drive are likely given access to the Files app.

iCloud storage with current project stored locally solves the portability aspect but Apple needs to create new tiers above 2TB.

Usually I would also say “I hate subscriptions” but in this case there’s good value. 4.99 a month means a lot of months before you get to the 250 or so purchase price of the Mac app. I think a lot of people will end up playing with these on iPad.
