Was NOT expecting to like it but I have to admit I want it.
Again. I have never been in line at the grocery store needing to compare two websites and do production work. Any other scenario I have my laptop bag which also includes my iPad.The difference is, you can't fit an iPad in your pocket.
Do you not use your phone at home relaxing? Do you not watch things sometimes eating out by yourself? Have you used a tablet before? Seems like it does all thatI just…..don’t get the insane hype that these devices get. I am never in line at the grocery store wanting this type of device.
people who love tech and want to have the latest iPhone/tablet.I'm still not sure who this is actually for.
Cool tech, but I remain puzzled as to the narrative of the buyer for it.
The head of engineering in the video specifically said it's designed to "minimize" creasing. That bitch is still gonna crease like a cheap pair of pleather dress shoes. You mean Samsung did it.
If you were planning to upgrade your phone and ipad, you'd just get this one device. Most of us have iphone, macbook, ipad... so no one needs this. I guess if you travel a lot?
So, lefties can use the Duo just fine - as long as they hold it in their right hand, is that it?I mean, do lefties not have a right thumb?
Would put the TouchID in a rather hard to reach place. It’s software and the hardware can be rotated 180 degrees. Only thing keeping it from being a lefty-friendly device would be Apple not allowing that for some reason. Which could go either way knowing them 😆.
Why would I use my phone at home when I have an iPad, computer and a large screen tv? If I’m out eating I do —SHOCK— digital detoxing. I don’t need to have a device in my face while I m at a restaurant. I just take the time away from a device for a change. I have used a tablet, I have an iPad.Do you not use your phone at home relaxing? Do you not watch things sometimes eating out by yourself? Have you used a tablet before? Seems like it does all that
Face ID doesn’t use LIDAR. Uses infrared “TrueDepth” cameras.Yeah, but couldn't get the LIDAR working under the screen. Hence, no Face ID and relying on Touch ID.
The screen transition is amazing
It looks just like every other folding phone out there. I do not see Apple inventing anything new in this design. As usual, their presentation is full of the technical terms they invented just to sound differently from the others but it's the same design (just 9 years late).I was cautiously optimistic that Apple would pull the "last one to do it but did it right" thing and from first impressions they may have made the best foldable phone. I have not been tempted by a folding phone before but the Duo does look good. $2000 USD for just 256GB of storage is wheeze-inducing, but if I am going to buy a Duo it probably will be the Duo 2 or 3 since I am very happy with my iPhone 17. Hopefully by then memory and storage prices will come back down to Earth.
The one design decision I am skeptical of is moving the status bar to the side. In a way the Duo sort of resembles how I prefer my macOS GUI with the Dock to the side, though on my Macs I prefer the Dock on the left side. It makes physical sense to have the controls remain near the thumb, and the passport-like shape is going to influence people to hold the Duo a certain way, but I wonder how the Duo will accommodate left-handed people. I'm looking forward to the inevitable JerryRigEverything durability test to see how the titanium heavy chassis handles stress. The iPhone Air did very well when he got his hands on it, but that hinge could be the weak point of the device.
iPhone Duo supports MagSafe wireless charging and offers incredibly fast wired charging that reaches up to 50 percent in around 20 minutes.I went into this expecting to hate it. I don’t. The camera and Face ID I could survive without. But no MagSafe? That’s a dealbreaker.
True but real leather also creases. 😉The head of engineering in the video specifically said it's designed to "minimize" creasing. That bitch is still gonna crease like a cheap pair of pleather dress shoes.
https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/Cases already on Amazon, showing support of MagSafe. Guess that answers that question....
First claiming in the intro that it is the first foldable phone that is ONE screen – and then calling it DUO.
I'm right handed and hold my iPhone in my left hand most of the time 🤨Great if you are right-handed, shocking if you are left-handed.
How though? Look how much bigger the mini looks now can it replace it?It will sell well. One audience consists of people with an iPhone and iPad mini. It can replace both at around the same price. It looks more comfortable to hold when open than an iPad mini and has a much better display (though the next iPad mini may get OLED).
