In which country will the relay be based ? When I am in Europe, will the relay be in Europe or will it be in USA.
Good question. I'm getting an 80ms ping (compared to my usual 10-12ms ping) and my download speed is reduced by half (180mbps compared to 350-360mbps) on my MacBook Pro.

On my iPhone, my Ping is around 35ms and the speed is alright, but still not as fast as without the private relay feature.

Also, I don't know if its just my phone but sometimes the websites take forever to load. Once, the private relay feature is set to trackers only in the Settings (or turned off completely), it's all good again. Might be either overloaded or in a different region, I'm not sure.

But to get back to your question, I believe it's designed to use a private relay that's near you.

Let's wait and see. :) I wasn't able to find the custom email domain feature in the first beta of iOS 15 yet. Maybe I just didn't see it or it simply hasn't been implemented yet.
fully with you - however I'd never thought Apple would implement something like that, given that all the other providers (Microsoft & Google) had it, but effectively dropped it (except for their business offerings)

They mentioned that iCloud+ will include recording for an "unlimited" number of Homekit Secure Video cameras. I wonder if that also applies to the 200GB plan. Only supporting one camera is very limiting.
And here's the answer:

"iCloud+ plans: 50GB with one HomeKit Secure Video camera ($0.99/mo.), 200GB with up to five HomeKit Secure Video cameras ($2.99/mo.), and 2TB with an unlimited number of HomeKit Secure Video cameras ($9.99/mo.)."

So 5 cameras on the $3 plan now. Works for me. Far less expensive than the plans from various camera companies, and you get end-to-end encryption ...

True, didn't expect that as well, especially for such a consumer-based service.

didn't they speak about 2 hubs? As they claim, there is nearly no deterioration that might be difficult without local proxies.

I can definitely notice the decreased performance when running Speedtests. Not sure if the private relay is also used when downloading but if it is, then I'd definitely turn the feature off or set it to trackers only.

Or maybe it will improve over time, they might add more servers, etc. We don't know as this is just the beginning.

Oh, btw, when you turn the feature off or change it to trackers only, you can't connect to any websites for a few minutes. :D

Yeah, I’m sure this is what I read when I watched the keynote. Hopefully this is the case, I want some cameras but don’t need more than 200gb storage right now

Now, this is a really cool feature!

Also, it looks like the Private Relay feature is powered by CloudFlare / CloudFlare Warp :) Nice.
Holy crap this sounds amazing. However, what I want to be able to do is create my own domain and delete the original. I get so much spam on iCloud it’s ridiculous, but I can’t start fresh as I would lose all my purchases etc etc. Anyone able to test this?

As far as I know, you can actually disable certain iCloud email addresses.

There was no mention of the camera recording quality being increased so i guess its still restricted to 1080p which is a shame considering they added unlimited cameras

It says you can’t disable the main one though, which is what I’d want to do. I don’t know how this kinda thing works, but if I did create a domain would I have to pay for a domain elsewhere first? Or can you just create it with iCloud?
Right, but afaik you can change your main ("default address") email address. Once you do that, you should be able to disable the "old" main email address.

It sounds like you have to purchase the domain on sites such as Namecheap first before you're able to use it for Email with iCloud. Or maybe they actually let you buy one right within iCloud, which I highly doubt

What benefit would 4K have when it comes to security cameras? 1080p should be perfectly fine, it’s not like those old security cameras on crimewatch or whatever. Maybe a bit more clarity but i wouldn’t have thought it’d make a difference; besides, it’s not really reasonable to assume Apple would give you unlimited storage for a 4K feed, they’re enormous especially if you’re recording all day

I’ll have to give that a try, but I don’t think I was able to last time I looked into it. thank you

There are 2k homekit cameras on the market which will give better calrity but wont use nowhere near the space of 4k. There isn’t any homekit cctv camera systems out only the smart cameras that record 10-60seconds when they detect motion so you wouldn’t be recording all day
