I'm confused about these terms Apple is using. Airplay... FaceTime... Launchpad... GameCenter... Horrible naming scheme.

FaceTime = iChat
Launchpad = iHub
Airplay = iAir

I don't know...

...meh. Nice new features, but why slack with iWeb?

iDvd is included, but it seems unimproved. However, it was awesome as it is/was. I wouldn't care if they never update it again. DVDs will be out like VHS in 2016.

iPhoto and iMovie had excellent improvements. $49... I might buy it next October before I take a world spanning vacation. However, with '09 I am good until then. Maybe we'll see iLife '12 next Oct.

I see no compelling reason to update to iLife '11.

The lack of support for iWeb is simply mystifying. Perhaps they plan a separate update for the app and that's why iWeb 3 is in the iLife '11 collection? Perhaps they will move iWeb into iWork? Perhaps Apple bought GoLive from Adobe and will release a Pro web app?

Let us know, Apple. I've been putting off learning Dreamweaver. Lack of iWeb support would be the push I need.

For whatever it's worth, the Fifth Avenue store in NYC has tons of them on display on the wall with all their other software. Just picked it up.

Has apple ever updated iLife and iWork at the same time?

They are two different products, why would anyone expect them to be updated together?

Iweb ????

Where is my f.. iWeb, I was waiting for an update but, nothing, how can you call it ilife 11 ????? with only tree programs ????? SCANDAL! :confused:

I was worried they were going to ruin iWeb, like they did when they rewrote iMovie. I guess I'll use the $$$ I save by not buying iLife and use it to buy RapidWeaver/WordPress instead? Does Apple expect everyone to use blogging sites and picture archiving sites, in lieu of iWeb?

I can see Launchpad replacing the current Applications folder on the dock, and with an iPad like scroll (if more than one full screen of apps), could work well, along with the folders ability.

My two biggest frustrations with iPhoto and Places are:
1. iPhoto faces needs a lot of work. They did not mention if this detection was improved or not.
2. Places just does not have many places I've been to. There not listed on the map for some reason, but are in Google Maps. Anyone see if they added places to Places?

apple felt it was necessary to have an event for this? wow.

My thoughts exactly - Steve was lacking in enthusiasm / energy. He kept prompting the audience with "response questions" but the audience was flat. Perhaps I am remembering too much of the "jazz" from previous MacWorlds / WWDC with much larger audiences.

The lack of a new iWeb surprised me and many others. Perhaps Apple is trying to make a greater gap between the consumer and professional products (iPhoto / Aperture; iMovie / FCE;...). It is a delicate balance.

Feels like a time portal opened up and whole bunch of folks from 2004 just popped into 2010.

iWeb whining...people don't make personal webpages anymore....everything is Facebook & Youtube. Why update an app nobody uses. If you need to do web work, there's plenty of apps out there.

iDVD whining...who burns home movie DVDs and hands them out? Much less watches them. Netflix pirates dont count! Nobody. Everything is being watched online.

iLife 11 enhancements look nice. Great job :apple:

More importantly, releasing iWork this month (alongside Office '11) would only make it painfully obvious that no one ever buys it and that it is noticeably inferior to Office.

You can add a place anywhere from Google Maps....If its not there, you can look it up....by name or address or city....

iMovie was an aberration. Apple didn't set out to rewrite it. What happened is an Apple employee wrote an application (for his own use) to handle home movies in a way that he thought was better than iMovie. Higher ups (Jobs, presumably) found out about it and liked it, so they made it the new iMovie. Ever notice how iMovie required an Intel processor long before the other iLife apps? That's why.

Bottom line: it's not likely you'll see any of the other apps get a complete rewrite like iMovie did.

The iLife update was the main thing I was excited about, and unfortunately i can't say i'm impressed. The update is ok, but what really bugged was the fact that they didn't update iWeb, which is the iLife application that I use the most. Oh well, u can't have everything :(
