That's my biggest question.

Seems like a decent update to me. And improved facebook integration is an appealing feature, the current version isn't so hot for that.

Hopefully iWeb is updated, it would be weird not to at least give it a facelift. I guess we'll know soon enough.

Garage Band is getting to the point where it's starting to rival full audio packages.

So is iLife in Apple stores today, anyone know?

Yep, just bought it at the Soho Store in New York...

iLife 11

iPhoto: Scrapbooking is the largest hobby in the USA, yet Apple's PhotoBooks cater to very specific tastes in book design. Too bad Apple ignores this market - or defers to other players like Polaroid. Still, a lot of good updates here.

iMovie: Nice improvements, but it takes too long to edit movies the way they sell you on it. You practically need a separate, external drive to house your video files.

GarageBand: Already a great app, except no MIDI out. There's a MIDI Out plugin in the wild but it's not idea. Still, I'd like to see them include new software instruments and loops; maybe add to the existing libraries or add a Pro Series of loops. More Magic Garageband options would've been welcomed, too.

iDVD: All I ever asked for was that for Easy DVD mode to insert chapter markers when a pause was detected. I tend to dump mini DV tapes direct to DVD to review and index first, then edit down later. Does any DVD app for the Mac do this?

iWeb: I don't use it. I like to use Word Press and Joomla instead, but iWeb has some cool features for sure. Still, it feels like a (very nice) toy compared to other web apps. It has good uses, but I suspect Apple may move to a web-based design tool under MobileMe next year.

iApp 2011? What happened to the mystery product? I'm going to guess that it was App Store itself, but a late decision was made to push it out 90 days.

My two cents.
Overall, not impressed - but iLife was already pretty darn impressive.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

What were They thinking? Most of us were looking forward for a very much needed upgrade to iWeb! Did anyone say anything about something being done in the near future? Any possible updates? Who was in charge of this project :0( disappointing

how do we get those new ilife icons that are on the box? They are much nicer than the ones now.

Where did you see that? I looked and they didn't even add new themes!

Really, nobody who bought it today has checked to see if any of the apps are 64 bit?

They were updated together in August '08.

That's once out of four or five releases of each, the exception that proves the rule. There was no reason to expect iWork today, especially for anyone who reads rumor sites.

Do you realize the target audience for iLife apps? If you can actually use Final Cut, then go get one. Normal people finds iMovie 09 to be extremely good already, and the additions of things like movie trailer themes are just icing on the cake. I can churn out a decent looking video with iMovie 09 faster than in FCE.
I do realize the target audience. I am in no way a pro and have been holding out on the pro video editing software as long as I can, but I still find myself using the original iMovie from time to time because the newer one infuriates me. There are a number of key missing features and other features that take way more steps than they used to. One of the best features of the original iMovie HD was the Garageband integration which totally vanished when they remade iMovie. Hopefully the new audio controls bring some of that back, but it will never beat how convenient it was to be able to click one button and have your movie switch over to Garageband for audio editing. I had been hoping for a major revision to iMovie to bring back a lot of that functionality and control. Instead we have the ability to make prepackaged trailers and tag people in our videos. Yeehaw.

The mystery product was the Musical playing program where the computer told you that you had hit a bum note or two...hardly earth shattering...

Wow, looks like the first time ever I won't be upgrading to the new version of iLife. No real new killer features, just a thin layer of new gimmicks.

Very disappointed that :apple: still hasn't addressed the cataloguing and viewing of "home movies" within their own ecosystem. Once again we have a keynote demonstrating the creation of terrific iMovies of BMX guys and best friends having a jolly good time galavanting in Europe...with the recommendation of uploading to YouTube or facebook. What about just watching it with my family at home? On my big screen via my :apple:TV, or iPad perhaps?

Using the Share to iTunes feature of iMovie is really weak. Just throws your home movie in there next to "Iron Man 2" and "Finding Nemo." iMovie ought to have a built in feature that creates an HTML5 iTunes-LP-DVD type presentation package that can be played on iDevices or :apple:TV, uploaded to a website/MobileMe, or even converted and burned to a DVD. And iTunes ought to have a separate section for "Home Movies" where all these creations live. Seems like a killer feature and marketing tool for the :apple:TV...suck them in with Junior's first steps and Susie's wedding, next thing you know they're renting episodes of "Glee."

It appears that iDVD is going to remain stagnant for yet another iteration of iLife, indicating that :apple: is philosophically through with physical media. Give us a new way to preserve, organize, and watch our own footage besides uploading to YouTube!

YES! I totally agree! I actually still manage most of my video clips through iPhoto for this reason. iMovie is terrible for organizing and storing clips and it's a pain to share them anywhere except Facebook. I'd love to see a Home Movies section in iTunes or something where you can put all your home content.

iMovie and Garage Band (Why not just stick an "i" in front of that, too?) look amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if the "express" versions of Final Cut and Logic are phased out. There's now very little the Express versions do that the iLife suite can't.

Not eve close to FCE. I would break down and cry it they did away with FCE. What we need is an update to Final Cut and Express.

Even adding a second "tab" to iPhoto where videos land and are organized and tagged by faces, places, events...then selecting those in iTunes for syncing the same way photos are now. Home Videos are in iLimbo as far as moving them through iLife and syncing to our own iDevices/:apple:TVs in an intuitive way.

FWIW I've tagged all mine as a "TV Show" called "Family Home Movies" with a "Season" for each year. Works well, but it's just not right...and takes way more than just one click to make it work.

No new iWeb

Seriously? iWeb was the app I wanted to see most updated! Even at $49 this version of iLife will probably get a pass from me.

I was just on the camera compatibility page and notice that they no longer list tape based devices. In the fine print below under "Additional Compatibility Notes" they have; "iMovie ’11 works with most Mini DV tape-based camcorders using DV and HDV formats, which use a FireWire cable (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) to transfer video.". They also have links to their list for the two previous versions of iMovie.

Does Apple have an up-to-date type of program for SW purchases? I just bought the box set 2 weeks ago, and unwrapped it earlier this week.

I personally feel that Apple really needs to just ditch the whole "iTunes" moniker and make an iMedia app that stores all your media in a consistent and usable fashion. They took a step in the right direction by putting PDFs into the Books section with iBooks. I finally can add PDF files to iTunes to organize them as well, but it needs to be more than that. And I too do the TV Show trick with a number of things. It's really handy for anything with more than one part.

No iWeb... kiss off Jobs!

Sitting here, bragging about HTML 5 and how it's the way of the web, yet you don't cater to your own web design program. No SEO integration, nothing of worth. Yea, I get to work with Audio and Trailers for iMovie.... seriously, what do you guys do at Apple for 2 years on a program?

Oh, that's right, Mac is an actual after thought. No iWeb = iDisappointed.

To pose an opposition view here, I can see why iWeb didn't get an update: The average person doesn't make webpages much anymore.

Social media sites like Facebook have taken over the web, taking away all the work of building and hosting your own website. It's simply not important for most consumers anymore. They have a Facebook page, why the hell would they care about anything else?

People are still interested in making their own photos, movies, and music, however, which is why those iLife apps got updated.

Just grabbed my copy from the University Park store in Ft Worth, going to play with it for a bit and report back with thoughts/findings.
Very very very disappointed that iWeb was not updated.

Hopefully iWork will be updated to blow Office '11 away.

I wonder when will stores start shipping those stocked MacBooks with a free copy of iLife 11.
