Apple Announces iOS 10 With Overhauled Messages App, Rich Notifications, and More

Wonder what stuff will be missing from the iPhone 6 then, probably most of the jazzy features lol.

If rumours are to be believed about a lacklustre iPhone refresh this year, then I wanna try and stretch my 6 out for another year even though the battery lasts 5 minutes and its bent so would be nice to know what stuff i'm likely to miss out on.

I presume there will be a few like me who will try and hold out for the big refresh next year if rumours are to be believed as most of us are on 2 year contracts and don't wanna be mid contract when the BIG update happens

Change is good, get over it.

I am particularly excited for this release. Lots of awesome overhauls and redesigns with new features. We didn't get dark mode YET, but Apple made it up with other stuff in my opinion.

FIFY ;)

could still be some features we don't know about until they announce the new hardware this fall. Maybe it won't happen at all but I'm not ruling it out yet. :apple:

Apple has also debuted a new privacy feature for iOS called Differential Privacy, which allows Apple to discover user habits to improve AI features without compromising privacy.
Starting with iOS 10, Apple is using technology called Differential Privacy to help discover the usage patterns of a large number of users without compromising individual privacy. In iOS 10, this technology will help improve QuickType and emoji suggestions, Spotlight® deep link suggestions and Lookup Hints in Notes.
In other words: "we will sneak deep into your files and usage patterns to gather precious data that will be used for your own sake".

Most underwelming version yet....very little new and useful stuff. Actually the best part is you can now delete some of the stock apps that you dont want. But that's the biggest nicety....not really a lot is it?

I think one of my favorite new features is one of the most simple: Raise to wake. It drives me crazy when my iPhone 6s unlocks so quickly that I miss my notifications. Even after all this time I don't remember to use the side button and end up missing them. This subverts that by showing them before I even press my finger down when I pick it up. This could also be a move towards removing more buttons on the iPhone in future redesigns. Although there still need to be some hardware buttons for certain things like resetting the device, but I think Apple could accomplish that in other ways (think a pin you could push at the back of the lightning port to reset an unresponsive device, or perhaps 3D Touching hard on two ends of the display, etc).

forgot about this one! I will like this feature. I'm in the habit of waking my phone screen with my thumb on the home button to see notifications... but with how fast TouchID is on the 6s, I blow past the lock screen to unlocked. Raise to wake will be nice. In the mean time, I need to get in the habit of waking the screen by the power button instead of the home button ;)

maybe i was watching a different conference but I love all the updates. Maps looks useful (hasn't been since they dropped google maps) imessage seems like a huge leap forward, apple pay looks very handy , and siri being opened up and smarter is fantastic. I don't get the hate

I agree. I look forward to the features in all the updates. Wasn't earth shattering and they did not demo them all but it was nice. Someone pointed out that we will have the ability to hide stock apps in iOS 10 and I know that wasn't demoed. Did anyone get a screenshot of all the features they added to iOS 10 when it was up on the slide? That will be helpful to find hidden things.

Does anyone know if I'll be able to run two excel spreadsheets side by side on iPad? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

I'm liking it's back to full screen pics when someone calls, new for iOS11? the parent button that turns off all the tat, that'll put the old ones off!!

I appreciate apple's improvements to messages and letting calls come through to the home screen but honestly i wish they allowed all messages from all services to be responded to in 1 Messages app.

GO here

It's sad that you can't replace apps you delete, like calculator is easy thing to delete and put a 3rd party app that is superior. I guess maybe they can iron this out in 10.1 or whatever when people screw themselves. I got 64 gig so the 'space' I get back is minimal but welcomed. I like the idea of HOME kit but I don't have anything that uses it, so I don't want it . Maybe in the future but apartment living limits many of these gadgets .

I'm hyped for iOS 10 and all the 3D touch and seems made for 6S+ users like myself.

Yea, I saw that from earlier. Was curious if anybody got the screenshot when they had the slide up for all the new features in iOS 10?

Regarding stock apps, I agree. The first one I will be doing is probably the Weather app and going with Yahoo! Weather as my default weather app.

On the lock and home screen side of things, Apple debuted a new "rich notifications" system that lets users get more information from various apps without unlocking their iPhone.

I don't need more information from apps on the lock screen. If I want to see more information, I unlock the phone.

The update will also introduce a "clear all" feature for Notification Center notifications, and a way to access the iPhone's camera and widgets by sliding left or right, respectively, from the lock screen.

A "clear all" feature should have been introduced with iOS 5, you know, almost 5 years ago. It's one of those small details of the OS Apple misses out on. At least they finally realized what was missing in the notification center.

You can access the phone's camera from the lock screen by swiping up. Why do you need widgets and a new way to get to the camera by now swiping left or right on the lock screen?

All of this will be even easier to glance at thanks to an Apple Watch-like "Raise to Wake" ability that wakes up the iPhone whenever users raise their device to eye level.

More like an Android-like ability.

Notes will be getting a new collaborative project feature and Live Photos will be able to go through an editing process in iOS 10.

Who cares?? Apple focuses on the things barely anyone cares about while more important things have become mediocre.

The Cupertino company also debuted a new Home app that allows users to easily manage and control all of their HomeKit devices in one place.

... That nobody buys. Apple should focus more on advertising in this area, as I think it has potential.

Disappointing updates for iOS and Watch OS.

Looking forward to macOS, but this will be the first year I am not going to download the Public Betas.
