It isn't just a millennial thing, it's also a female thing. Didn't you hear the way they talked about the emotions of it all. This is just the continued feminisation of all things in the west... for good or bad, probably more bad than good from my POV, but I ain't the one spending all the money. As long as I can switch it off I'll be fine.

And then right at the end we learnt the main reason... the monetisation of iMessage. They've seen how insanely popular LINE and other messaging apps have been with selling pointless crap for kids to send to each other.

Wow, ageist and sexist....

I'm already dreading some of the crap I will Recieve from iMessage . At least in the past this was limited to apps like snapchat etc, now iMessages have become the teenagers dream. I'd be fine if there was a way to turn this off, but sadly like it or not, the sender is in control....

It's that, and also catering to the Asian markert. While I have seen moderate unsage of such behaviour in the west, it's crazy popular in places like China / Japan and was a long time even before smartphones were a reality. The Asian female is going to love iOS 10.

Having lived in Japan for 3 years, it was an interesting time , and I can see why apple is doing it.

It's were apple sees the money being, so logically it's catering for its users , you can see how many times they referenced Chinese elements in the presentation.

So, you're worried about what all your friends will send you on iMessage, then say it's just teenagers and Asian girls. So your only friends are teenagers and Asian girls or do you want to contradict yourself?

Great analysis there. if you keep reading all my other posts on MR you are going to get an awesome profile of me based on unrelated posts..... Like context matters eh.

They still don't provide the capability of avoiding toll roads by default on Maps.

This option is available in Maps on iOS10

[doublepost=1465892672][/doublepost]Just my 2 cents:

For developers (where this Keynote was meant for ;)) lays some great opportunities ahead.

Apple opened up a few things:
- Maps
- Siri
- Messages
- Phone

This keynote made it obvious that Apple has absolutely no ideas for their products anymore. Opening basic apps for developers, some emojis, and a few design changes.

They shout out loud "no more thing ever".

Lg and Samsung will bring bendable phones that will make apples portfolio obsolete. It will kill Apple Watch, the iPhones, and the small iPads.

Google and Microsoft are miles ahead in points of voice recognition and translation, what will be the next big thing. Your bendable watch will make it convenient to communicate everywhere with everyone in any language.

Apple just comes around with some nineties stuff like gymnastics, just labels it as health. Nobody cares.

Apple will die slowly, iOS 10 will probably be the last iOS. Microsoft is the new Apple. And Google gets the market.

There's a toggle in Maps in iOS 10 to avoid Tolls.

Yet you still care enough to tell a bunch of random people on a forum, dedicated to smartphones...

*You* don't need/want them, Apple don't do things just because of what you think.

Also did you not see widgets, including weather in the Keynote?

Thing is, Apple have been clearly separating out Hardware announcements from the WWDC keynote over the years, but some people have not noticed that and then just get their hopes up.

Additionally, we had a long period of times where there were big things to be done, due to the advancements in technology, but now we've plateaued a bit and some people seem to not be able to get that, which is a shame.

There's not going to be much of a leap for laptops/smartphones/tablets for a while, but the watch is in it's infancy, so will see some big leaps. The TV is in between those 2 groups.

Wow, again, just because there's nothing new you liked, did not mean there's nothing new at all, Apple caters to the masses, not the minority, there's going to be things that are improved that are of no interest to you. When you say 'Nobody needs' you mean that YOU don't need, there's a massive difference there....

Bully for you, a lot of people want more information on the lock screen and have been very vocal about it for a long time. You're just another example of what's wrong with this forum, people acting with self entitlement, presenting their opinion that because they don't like something, it's something no-one wants.

Really? I thought watchOS was a massive step forward, in regards to Apps and the experience, something that should have been watchOS 2.

Swype has been on iOS since 2014, you had your head buried in the sand?

So, you state no-one uses the microphone voice thing, where's your source for that, because you're wrong. Also, a lot of the stuff in messages relating to stickers and that, is because there's an audience for it, look at Facebook messenger, Google's new Allo, there's a demand. You can easily just not use it yourself. If anyone uses it to send to you, well just proves yourself wrong when you say it's something no-one will use....

Yea, damn Apple playing catchup, by copying Google's Allo & Duo with iMessage and FaceTime in 2011 & 2010.... The tech industry duplicates and tries to improve.

Stop being so predictable. And this forum isn't "dedicated" to smartphones. Keep sticking up for Apple lol .

What does bendable hardware have to do with a developer conference?

You also realize that Google had a conference and also spent a bunch of time on yet another messaging app for Android. Clearly others are miles ahead and Apple is doomed as usual.

So those conclusions couldn't easily be drawn from what you said?

Careful what you wish for! Imagine a Galaxy S2 running Android N. Would not be pretty.

I still have that old Galaxy S2 that I got back in early 2012. A few months ago I was bored and I gave it a try: it's now running Marshamallow 6.0.1 (via the CyanogenMod 13 ROM)

To be perfectly honest with you, it works better, at this point, than my old iPhone 4S running iOS8, with all the newest Marshmallow features enabled, including Google Now. In fact that Galaxy S2 now works better than it did back in the days with its Samsung stock firmware (Android 4.1 Jelly Bean). That little experimentation made me realize Android has come a long way in terms of speed and optimization!

It's a dinosaur by today's standards, but I could certainly use that S2 running Marshmallow for a few weeks without any problem if I had to and absolutely needed a phone.

On the other hand, my fiancée's iPad mini (1st generation) is a pain in the ass to use since iOS 8.

So those conclusions couldn't easily be drawn from what you said?

Given one was on the demographic that Apple is targeting , and the other me hating recieving emoji ...... Hello mcfly ;)

A ridiculous conclusion.

You might want to re-read what I posted before defending this stance mate. I'll assume you have not read the posts.

This is truly insane. There's a few new features in iMessages and you can now delete their garbage stock apps. And that is it. WOW...GREAT release Apple. You're really innovating now!! Geez, Apple has become STALE...completely STALE. Nothing new and innovative, just copying what's already out there. The Google keyboard does most of what Apple just put into it's iMessage app already. I've been doing text to emoji and automatic GIF insertions with that already.

And yet, the lemmings on here are drinking it up like its koolaid from heaven.

Will the phone turn on/off these message features dynamically? So, for standard texts these features are turned off. Or if someone is using an older iMessage client, say still using an iPhone 4S, or not updated their device?

Edited for grammar

It's all there in black and white, in context from your own fingers. ;)

You think Apple aren't looking at bendable phones too? Just because it's not been leaked/rumoured, doesn't mean they aren't. Or do you have access to Jonny Ive's lab?

Siri and other things being opened up is a big step, which is something that's not really clear to the bog standard user, like you, until you see the end effects once developers have made use out of it.

There is a TON of stuff in the keynote, but you won't understand the scope unless you're a developer, which your post proves clearly.

You should rewatch the keynote as it was more than just some new features in messages and deleting stock apps.

Are Google also stale after 'only' announcing Allo & Duo at their conference, copying FaceTime and iMessage?

You can't read your own post? What a shame. It was one long ranty post.

I read them . And cannot see how you came to such a conclusion, hence I'm asking you to provide evidence . Quite simple mate.

So again..... Feel free to quote what I wrote , and how it supports your conclusion.

p.s in a debate , this is where you provide proof ;)

The evidence is your post, which I have already quoted and said how it supports my conclusion, you're just choosing to ignore that fact. My conclusion is justified as another member of the forum also pointed it out to you....
