The deals are not worked out yet. From what we've heard through the rumor mills, the hardware and the software are ready to go, but a compelling package to get customers is not ready yet. The content providers are not yet playing ball.
A compelling package would be not looking into the competitor's offerings that really don't add too much beyond what AppleTV can deliver today, if they wanted to.
H.265, App Store and maybe a better UI would be well enough, let the beancounters of the cable networks talk and deal with Apple whilst I'm rocking an AppleTV that is future-proof and ready for that content whenever.
Sounds a lot better to me, but then again they probably want Apple TV and that service to feed each other PR.
I mean, that in itself does make sense, but good Lord, the Apple TV 3 is ancient in tech years by now, ATV 4 should have happened last year already, considering we're talking about Apple, the company that loves to surprise us.
More and more it's the company that has us waiting, wows us with finally delivering on the additions that seemed obvious and barely hitting real surprises anymore, because those have often been announced in other keynotes of other companies...
I'm not saying that aren't wowing anymore at all, but boy it has gotten much less.
And no, not only hardware counts.
Software wows are getting scarce, too, especially with all that dumbing down, pro-neglection and so on.
