I'm curious to know how iOS 9 knows when I've gotten in the car. In the demo, one of the reminders was set to "remind me when I'm in the car". I wonder if it knows we're in the car based on the speed the phone is moving or when the phone is paired with a specific Bluetooth device (i.e. a car stereo)?

Probably through CarPlay... If your car doesn't have that, Apple probably does not care if that feature works.

The comment about "new cars with carplay" took me by surprise. Why would we need a new car? I wonder how it works. I would assume its handled by bluetooth, but that would only require a software update. I mean, if my iPhone could replace my key maybe it would need some new hardware, but the feature is not that impressive (or taxing).

Our iPad Air 1's can't even handle more than 3 Safari tabs consequently and you expect to run two full apps side by site eating on that one GB of RAM?

I guess there will be a jailbreak tweak for the brave ones, but I'll stick to realism and not stretch the paltry RAM they gave this iPad even more.

Good to know from here on out an iPad update will always make sense on my end, but I can wait a little longer.
For now...

Yes, totally...I've been disappointed with my iPad Air 1 since I bought it! my prior iPad 3 had no such Safari refresh problem. Even with no other applications running, 3 tabs does seem to be the magic number maximum most of the time - though some pages being heavier than others, 3 is not guaranteed every time! I will definitely wait on my next iPad update, and survive without split screen and 'real' multi-tasking.

is it just me, but i think i found a glitch in the otherwise pretty cool presentation.
i've always thought what they demonstrate on stage is 100% real. but as Mr. Federighi
clicked on a maps link while demoing iOS multitasking, a small popup appeared, notifying
that turning on wifi will improve location services.
but in the previous and next part of the presentation clearly shows, wifi is on. at least
the little icon on the top left is there.
of course, all stuff could come from a local web server running on the iPad. i mean, they
are apple, they can do what they want with ios.
and the presenter did a marvellous job to hide this little glitch with a joke so most people
laughed.
but after all i think - as i read from the book - Steve Jobs would have repeating the whole
presentation end-to-end until it's perfectly polished, and during this exhausting process this
issue would have been found and fixed.
instead of that fake video prequel stuff at the very start of the wwdc.

anyway, they did a very good job!

I thought that message popping up in the presentation was pretty funny...especially considering how obnoxious those pop ups are. I hope they give us the ability to disable those location accuracy reminders with iOS 9 at some point. I've been using iOS since iOS 3 -- I get it.

I wonder if Samsung and Google will sue over the multitasking since the concept and execution on a tablet was completely stolen from them.

Did anyone else notice how they manipulated the on screen pictured of white iPads to look more rounded ?
I thought I was looking at cheap crappy Samsung tablets.
I wonder why they did that. Or am I crazy ? Look at the bended bezel.

Does anyone know if Messages Read Receipts were given on a per-contact basis? This is one feature I was looking forward to, including group read receipts.

2 things that I'm most excited about: Multitasking features for the iPad and performance + battery life improvements

Yep, me too.

Split screen will be useful doing my accounts, when I need to switch between Safari and iCompta all the time. Glad I have an Air 2! I presume we'll get a large iPad this autumn. Hope it's 13". And a 34" iMac.

And battery life improvements will be dearly welcomed. Just hope iOS 9 fixes the daily soft rebooting of my iPad.

Why is split view only available for iPad Air 2. Surely my iPad Air can handle this...I cannot think of why Apple would do this other than to try and spur new iPad sales. Not really cool to owners of the not so old original iPad Air

Ugh I missed the key note but heard about split screening. I have the air 1 sucks didn't even know I won't be able to use it.

Has Apple lost its mojo?

Ohh.. And where was the AppleTV with an app store... Still missing

The deals are not worked out yet. From what we've heard through the rumor mills, the hardware and the software are ready to go, but a compelling package to get customers is not ready yet. The content providers are not yet playing ball.

A compelling package would be not looking into the competitor's offerings that really don't add too much beyond what AppleTV can deliver today, if they wanted to.

H.265, App Store and maybe a better UI would be well enough, let the beancounters of the cable networks talk and deal with Apple whilst I'm rocking an AppleTV that is future-proof and ready for that content whenever.

Sounds a lot better to me, but then again they probably want Apple TV and that service to feed each other PR.
I mean, that in itself does make sense, but good Lord, the Apple TV 3 is ancient in tech years by now, ATV 4 should have happened last year already, considering we're talking about Apple, the company that loves to surprise us.
More and more it's the company that has us waiting, wows us with finally delivering on the additions that seemed obvious and barely hitting real surprises anymore, because those have often been announced in other keynotes of other companies...
I'm not saying that aren't wowing anymore at all, but boy it has gotten much less.
And no, not only hardware counts.
Software wows are getting scarce, too, especially with all that dumbing down, pro-neglection and so on.

I am a long time Mac user and a frequent early adopter. The split screen limitation to the iPad Air 2 frankly pisses me off. The RAM excuse is indefensible because they should have increased RAM years ago. It certainly wouldn't have cratered profitability to build something that could be future proof for several years. There is no reason my iPad Air could not have been designed to use all of the features of an updated iOS going from 7 to 9, a mere 2 years after purchase.
WWDC was a huge dud this year. It's like they went through the motions. Watch appears to have sapped their energy and resources.

Notice how no one has mention how this is a carbon copy of microsoft's windows 8 snap/multitasking.
but if this was the other way around, you ppl will be at an uproar how everything is copying apple.

apple would file patents on edge slide to split view and start suing every one.
notice how Microsoft introduced this in 2011 and filed no patents and isn't suing no one?
