Oh, and Gizmodo are a bunch of d**ks for ruining this surprise.

No Steve is the d**k for not tweaking his keynote and giving us some info on the Mac Pro, Apple TV, and Mac OS. Nice stuff, for sure, but....

Maxing out at 32GB is less of a surprise than the fact that they've managed to double capacity on an annual basis-- that's well ahead of Moore's law. I'm disappointed there's now 64GB model, I'd have liked one, but can't say I'm surprised.

I think the AT&T "generous offer" is actually more about trying to lock people in before they lose exclusivity. Based on the offer, I'm guessing we'll see non-AT&T iPhones by the end of the year, or for the January announcement.

Other than that, the video chat is a nice feature, but this looks pretty evolutionary as far as hardware goes.

If I'm reading this right, this means that if you upgraded to the iPhone 3GS last year, you won't be able to upgrade to this one because your contract won't expire until 2011.

If I have that wrong correct me but that's what it looks like.

Right. That is what it meant when you signed that contract and it is still what it means today. You should appreciate the consistency!

Volume button for camera!?!

I really hope that the camera shutter can be controlled with one of those newly-separated volume buttons. I didnt see anything in the live updates, so I'm hoping that it just didn't get covered and it's already built in.

I really think that this is ESSENTIAL to the camera function. the only thing I really hate when using my iPhone is fumbling for the stupid on screen button. it makes taking a spontaneous picture really tedious. using the physical volume button would be fantastic. could somebody find out if maybe they included this and didn't highlight it. I wonder if other people feel the same way???

nothing revolutionary here but everything got improved.

the gyrometer is as much a toy as the compass.
the screen could be amazing however i'm happy with my current screen since my eyes resolve max 150ppi anyway:eek:
i'll probably skip that update since I don't see any real new feature that I would need.

no 4G, no video calling over 3G, no standard USB port for charging and file transfer, no sim card slot and such. but we won't see most of these features ever anyway.

this may be a great update for people with a 3G or a 2G because you get speed improvements.

I love the new iPhone. I'm not sure why some people are disappointed. What did you expect? A built-in toaster? Ok, no video chat over 3g. But that's a carrier limitation, not Apple's fault.

I'm really excited about the new screen. I've been giving some thought to getting an iPad, but have been telling myself to hold off until rev. b. With this new screen technology I think I'll definitely hold off and see if it makes it into the next iPad revision.

32 GB = Lame
1 carrier = Lame
Same amt of RAM as current model = Lame

Seriously, I am a big fan and love my tried and true 3G. But Apple needed a homerun to put themselves back on top after having their featureset leapfroged this year by Google/Android. It didn't happen.

Google devices will continue to come out at an alarming pace with the ante upped every few months and Apple will find it's slimmer iPhone with a higher pixel density display (and a dumb name) not enough to complete...
:(

nothing news,
it stays a phone for losers who wanna show it to their 14-year old friends

I am SOOOOO glad you joined in this discussion, if only you had joined macrumors earlier than this may, so I could read more of your insightful comments over the years....

WTF, no canada on June 24th???? Anyone have any idea why this might be the case? I'm ****ing pissed about this. I want to give apple my money but the bastards won't take it...yet ;-)

Agreed. I've bought and sold 3 iPhones from Kijiji because I didn't want to get locked in with Rogers. This time I was ready! Other countries in September? No way man!

is it just me or does the "tech specs" page for it on apple give no tech specs:confused: It's just like heres the resolution and the formats it plays:mad:

It is disappointing to be an avid Apple fan but have to pay more for a phone than a newbie to the bandwagon?!?C

This has nothing to do with Apple...that's a carrier like AT&T that decides that....and by the way...I bought my launch day 3GS fully subsidized and I am eligible for this one fully subsidized as well...a lot of AT&T customers are...

Really wish they'd change how push notifications are displayed. Getting little intrusive boxes of text in the middle of the screen and in the middle of what I'm doing is so lame. Otherwise what we've seen today is pretty awesome! AT&T will forever suck, but nothing we can do about this yet...

Boring. Why bother having video conferencing if it doesn't even support the network.

Why NOT have it on Verizon (yes, he would have mentioned it).

The screen looks awesome but otherwise it seems like nothing "major" like Job's claims.

Not sure if this was your intent or not, Steve, but all you managed to do today was reassure me that my choice of EVO over iPhone 4 was a great one. Wow, wifi only chat? Phone to phone only? iAd? Guitar Hero?! Smaller screen? This is what you have?! Hahahahaha. And still stuck on the horrendous ATT network with their moronic new pricing mechanisms and data restrictions? Good riddance, iPhone. Surpassed so easily and so fast.

Still yet to meet someone with an android device...and yes a lot of my friends are tech geeks...

Listen to Robin Williams sing "Blame Canada" and you'll know:)
