Apple Announces iPhone 4 with Retina Display, HD Video Recording, More

Should've gone with a silver plastic color for the seams—as they look black from the photos.

Other than that, awesome technology. But AT&T, still? How many years are they going to be the exclusive carrier in America?
 
Antenna

Something that is not being discussed is the antenna. For those who are more knowledgeable about the hardware side of the iPhone, is the new antenna design a big improvement over the previous iPhone models? That has been my #1 complaint with my iPhone always.....the reception was much worse than other phones on the same network.

BUT if we are getting it along with all the OTHER Europeans ... then ... I'll sell it and wait in frustration without me 'phone til it does ...

Uk is in the initial 5. Check Apple site, change county to UK.

Four years, and now 2 more hours worth on the @#$!% iPhone and only the iPhone?! What a joke. Oh, I forgot the other joke, the iPad. I mean, I like gadgets like everyone else, but give me a break!

The Mac must be dead and no one told some of us.

Bit underwhelmed by the lack of 64gb and the 8gb 3GS is typical apple meanness re storage. All designed to make you buy the pricier handset

I'll stick with my 3G. After the iPad, mobile phones are just for calls texts and tunes
 
That looks great. Shame I don't really have much need for such a phone, the 32gb limit seems to be this gens Achilles heel. Considering the display resolution is quadrupled, it can now film HD video and the camera takes pics at a higher resolution you'd think they would have fought tooth and nail to get at least 64gb in there.

Is it just me or did the screen on the new iPhone look darker than the 3gs? Engadget mentioned this too. That would kill it for me.
 
Can we expect an iPod Touch with these upgrades?

I assume at some point the upgrades will migrate to the touch. When has that historically happened?

We have had "facetime" since 2003 on 3G networks. There is standard for that... which allows you to place video calls between any video enabled phone on the network. So WTF is Apple FaceTime... Wifi video chat, thats so mobile...

Canada still has a fairly poor market for phones. Many users are locked in to very long contracts and may not consider upgrading their phones until the contract is due for renewal. Its also a relatively small market compared to the other 5 launch countries, I guess.
 
The lack of 64GB is very disappointing but not surprising. However, it's PERPLEXING as it relates to the iPod Touch. If the Touch doesn't go to 128GB in September, NO ONE is going to upgrade that thing just for the camera they'll throw in. That also means that Apple can't get rid of the Classic, which they've been trying to do for several years. So you gotta believe that they are going to do everything in their power to give us a 128GB iPod Touch in September. So where does that leave the iPhone? I'd bet that it goes 64GB in September, even though Apple has never done a capacity upgrade only to the iPhone.

Well I guess the doubling had to stop someday. It's a shame given that if you do a lot of 720p recording, storage would get gobbled up at record speed. Well, I guess they had to save something for next year :p

No 64 GBs in the iPhone means almost certainly no 128 GB for the iPod touch. Apple wouldn't even dare to do a 64 GB model iPhone in September. There was enough outrage when they lowered the price after a couple of months for the iPhone. I think that means the iPod classic is here to stay yet again.
 
Still AT&T?

The first Laser printer was made by Apple. It had 300 dpi (book publishing quality) the iPhone 4 has more than that, so your retinas will never grow tired of reading it. This is incredible! 7 hour talk time, 5 megapixel camera, shoots HD video at 720p, Gyro Sensors, multitasking, & iBooks. So why I'm a buying an Android? Because I refuse to use AT&T.

I will state that the wonderful new features (FaceTime, video) will require a lot of data...the thing that is now limited. Obviously, a lot of different opinions about the economics/business models but I can't help but see the limit as a negative. A big draw to the phone in my opinion (and a major marketing point), is the instant use and availability of the web, the videos. What are you gonna want to do with the newly composed video? I think upload it or send to your family/friends.

I'm really excited about the new screen. I've been giving some thought to getting an iPad, but have been telling myself to hold off until rev. b. With this new screen technology I think I'll definitely hold off and see if it makes it into the next iPad revision.
