Can you explain that further? I'm not eligible for an upgrade until dec, but wouldnt mind extending the contract if that ment i could have the subsidized price.

depends what your current plan is. I was able to get the promo plan 69.99 for unlimited data txt and 450 minutes. Along with a 15% employee discount, so my bill is 67.50 every month. My upgrade is due now but if i get a phone at a subsidized price then I lose the plan I have and have to move to these retarded shared plans thus paying 92 per month for 1gb of data. Essentially paying more for less. I'd save $25 a month by paying 649 for an iphone which is $600 savings over 2 years, the phone itself would cost me around 400+ after i sold my 4. If your plan is around 80-90 a month right now then it makes no sense paying full retail unless you really wanted it and/or didn't care about the money.

In short Apple doesn't allow the early upgrades anymore I was told that by vz either your eligible for a new 2 year at 199 or pay full retail.

As usual with Apple, it's all about the details in their hardware (I'm sure there will be tons of small, and outstanding details in iOS6).

I totally dig on it, will be ordering this Friday (and very likely migrating over to Verizon after 10 years with AT&T).

I wouldn't call it trampling... there are some great devices out there right now. I love the iPhone and will be pre-ordering on friday to upgrade my iPhone 4. But lets be honest with ourselves Apple is not head and shoulders above the competition like they used to be in the smart phone market. I think Samsung (Galaxy S3) and HTC (One X) have caught up and some would argue have even passed Apple. But you're right about one thing iOS just works wonderfully and I am in the eco system because of how it everything just connects and works well together.

Of course they "caught up".

even i was hoping for something more radical...but i seriously think that you gonna feel the difference once you hold it in your hand
have an iphone 4 , samsung omnia 7 & galaxy ace and they al feel fine.

Quality is in its usage and wearbility, not how it "feels" it first.

Now that someone has mentioned it, translucent is phenomenal idea. Make it glow, as I can never find the damn phones in my bags. Now it's just another black phone. Bleh.

Goodbye S2 - Hello iP5!

Those going over to Android - Good luck. I loved the switch at first. For around a month. Then I regretted it.

Kinda like when I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, I kinda liked it and played with it for about a month. Now it sits on a shelf collecting dust. I don't care for Android and the touchscreen bites.

I'm not saying the S2 is a bad phone - It's just not as polished. I find the OS clunky & overall quality of the phone is lacking.

That & it doesn't play well with my new MBP :p

iPhone 5 eligibility

When the original iPhone came out, I stood in line and bought one on its release date.

When the iPhone 3Gs came out, I stood in line and bought one on its release date.

When the iPhone 4 came out, I stood in line and bought one on its release date.

When the iPhone 4s came out, I stood in line and bought one on its release date.

NOW Apple is telling me I won't be eligible for the iPhone 5 until sometime in May. Why the inconsistency? This is poor business practice.

Wait, I seem to remember them saying with iOS6 you'll be able to stream music from iTunes Match to iOS devices in addition to computers but now I can't find this feature anywhere?

it's funny they say up to twice as fast and everyone here including the author states twice as fast as fact. upto twice as fast can mean it's twice as fast at only one benchmark and only be unnoticeable faster in realworld. not saying this is the case just saying it's not twice as fast

If you are only focused on the specs, you missed the detail engineering, which makes Apple, well, Apple.

Sapphire window on camera lens...really is scratch proof...only glass harder than sapphire is diamond...

8 hours of LTE talk time (same as S3) with just a small bump up in battery size...that blows away all the battery nay sayers.

I think the iPhone 5 is eight hours of talk time on 3G. I haven't seen an LTE talk time listed. I wonder if the phone is smart enough to use 3G for talking and LTE for data. That would be a good way to preserve battery.

Why??

Lightning sync should be capable using the thunderbolt port to sync. Everyone knows thunder and lightning go together.

Well coming from someone who's been on Android since the Nexus1 I was really hoping this would be the phone to bring me over to IOS. I have had my experience with IOS at varying times when I have had to wait for replacement phones and I had an old iPhone. Although it always felt cleaner than Android it was always lacking that one feature for me I couldn't live without.

Back then it was the notification bar and notification LED, they finally implemented one of those.

Now its NFC and they still haven't.

I was going to switch if all the rumors were true dictated by NFC, and they didn't bring it.

I really wanted to switch, I love my Mac, Im thinking in a few years when theres not much tech to implement I will switch for the "cleaner" experience.

if you really think that iphone 4, omnia and galaxy ace feel the same way than lets not even discuss it as your definition of fine it seems is different then mine.

Even i agree quality is in usage..anandtech just posted a hands on video on youtube and iPhone 5 is blazing fast..

My S3 is way better.. i get to switch out my batteries when 1 dies down.. i get to overclock it on root, change roms, do whatever i want with the phone, no limits,

Great piece of geek equipment, but those are not important to the average phone user.
