if you really think that iphone 4, omnia and galaxy ace feel the same way than lets not even discuss it as your definition of fine it seems is different then mine.
You are mixing up fine and same.

Do I care the iphone 4 feels heavier ? no That it has glass instead of plastic back? Yes because that breaks easier.

Even i agree quality is in usage..anandtech just posted a hands on video on youtube and iPhone 5 is blazing fast..
As it should be

And Apple continues to trample the competition.

It's a wonderful update filled with the type of tech needed for its application.

I'll be grabbing mine as I absolutely loathe this Razr Maxx I have now. Not because the phone is horrible but because Android OS is the most irritating, clunky OS I've ever used - aside from BB's.

It does NOT even come close to iOS and anyone who says different is A. a troll looking for attention or B. a nerd who MUST "root" their phones so they can get that "uber", "epic" wallpaper they MUST have on their phone.

While these kids spend their time fiddling around with settings and directories I'll be running my life and taking care of real business via iOS.
You, sir, nailed it! Could not have said it better myself.

I actually switched to an Android phone running Ice Cream Sandwich a few months ago to see what the other side was all about. I gave it a try but IMO there is absolutely no comparison between iOS and Android OS. Sure, the widgets were kinda fun but other than that I saw absolutely nothing compelling about the OS. Everything that *I* do with my phone is more intuitive and visually appealing within iOS. My primary computer is an Air and I have a New iPad as well and the way that these devices communicate seamlessly makes owning an iPhone a slam dunk.

lightning  is still using USB 2.0
Image

Its so they can boost the cable for the iPhone 5S.

"...the revolutionary lightning port is now even more revolutionary, with ultra-fast USB 3 assuring you the fastest transfers you have ever seen!"

 Holy Jesus of Nazareth, that's bloody expensive!

I'm guessing there will be an influx of cheap quality converters from China available on eBay soon. There is really no reason to spend that much on a converter.

agreed, that is rather dissapointing on the part of :apple:. Guess I will be waiting the the cheapie knockoffs.

Does the iPhone have a dedicated gps chip that still works when out of cell tower range?

Pricing comparisons...

From what little I could find at this point, here are the contract vs. non-contract pricing for the iPh5...

16 GB - $199 contract/ $649 non-contract
32 GB - $299 contract/ $749 non-contract
64 GB - $399 contract/ $849 non-contract

That means $500 more non-contract. Becomes cheaper (in some cases) to pay the contract cancellation penalty (for me, $200) than to buy the full-price. For the 64 GB one, I'd be looking at nearly a grand for the phone non-contract!! Wow!!

all i am tryin to say that at this point in time there is not a better alternative to iphone 5...i am not sayin its flawless

Color me disappointed, and I'm a big Apple fan.

The Nokia Lumia 920 was a fantastic release and upgrade compared to the 900. The iPhone 5 doesn't really offer all that much more compared to the 4S which I already have other than LTE and a taller screen. Letterboxing apps? That's ridiculous. I also think that not having NFC is a glaring omission.

After a few iPhones, I am sad to say I'll be jumping ship. GSIII or Lumia 920 will be my next device.

But god damn if the S III isn't the ugliest thing around. And plastic? Bleh. That might be enough for me to stick with Apple (not to mention the amount of $ I've invested in their ecosystem via Apps...they kinda got me by the short ones there).
Finally someone had the balls to say it. Props to you. The S3 is a** ugly!

128gb

The next updates for the iPhone and iPad will hopefully double the storage. With movies, video, and photos (especially on the iPad 3 at full resolution) 64GB is becoming a bit cramped. ;-)

I know, this is an earth-shattering problem to have. :D

What heat? Maybe I am not aware since I have a 4.

Every electronic device generates heat. The fact that the new iPhone is thinner and packs more processing power means it will generate heat that needs to be dissipated. I was only jokingly suggesting that the larger speaker holes could double as air vents to aid in cooling.

Does the iPhone have a dedicated gps chip that still works when out of cell tower range?

No GPS chip requires a cell tower. A-GPS does, but it is just a secondary system to a real chip.

So yes, the iPhone will continue to have a real GPS chip you can use in an airplane if you want (if it will get a signal). No network needed. A-GPS helps in this regard, but isn't essential for the space satellites to send a signal to the chip.

The back is so ugly, it's really amazing. Also, it's pretty sad to see all these 4S-owning drones in this thread who are going to upgrade because they honestly think that they gain anything from it.
Well, I think this phone is the most gorgeous phone I've ever seen, and love the back. So to each their own.

Also, people complaining about the look, has anyone looked at the other phones out there? S3 = hideous compared to this.

Just checked the specs and it requires Snow Leopard to sync with your Mac, but annoyingly it still works with WinXP  And since my G5 is stuck with Leopard I'm out until Apple updates the iMac. I'm also assuming the next iTunes 10.7 will also not run on my Mac :(

Which is a shame I like the design and really want to update my 3Gs, guess Apple won't be getting my money for the time being!

Ugh. ugly back.

Doesn't matter as 99% of customer will buy a case/cover for it anyway.

Thank you....

Now that someone has mentioned it, translucent is phenomenal idea. Make it glow, as I can never find the damn phones in my bags. Now it's just another black phone. Bleh.

Buh? Does the screen not glow and light it up when it rings? And if you mean when it's not ringing then surely even translucent will just be 'dark'...

Waiting for the official video of the event to be posted. There is an unofficial video recording already up on youtube but the video has an overlay of a guy in the corner the whole time, it is wretchedly annoying.

A bunch of people complaining that the new phone isn't any better than other Android phones already out, but all the phones they are referring to are by Samsung which was just successfully sued by Apple. So you are all saying you like Apple ripoffs better than the original thing.

The one advantage of buying the non-contract phones is that they are unlocked. Not all carriers (like Sprint) will unlock the phone at the end of contract or if ending the contract early by paying the cancellation fee.

NFC? Where exactly are you going to use it?

Card slot? Really?

More Storage? 64GB not enough for you?

3D? Sure thing. The 3DS is a real barn burner for sales.

Haptic Feedback? No thanks, I prefer better battery life. I have a One X and its disabled for a reason.

Augmented Reality? Yes, because this is a revolution. I am sure Nokia is going to light up sales with this feature.

To be fair, I have several augmented reality apps on my iPhone 4S.
