Looks good but too expensive for what it is considering the compromises that have been made to get it that thin.

The Pro at just $100 more is way better value.
I went in thinking that the Pro would be it for me. Battery very tempting. But, the Air having a pro processor with a slightly bigger screen but less weight is very tempting for me. The 17 Air is what some of us Plus people will go to, if we're okay with the camera sacrifices.

Pro-Better camera/video, better battery.
Air-Lighter, slightly bigger screen, $100 less.

For me, I'm very tempted by the lighter weight and optimal screen size, and Pro processor for $100 less than Pro. I know many will default to Pro simply because of battery; it's what I thought I would do.

I wasn't sure if I was going to go air or save some money on basic 17, but after realizing that the air is basically the same thickness as my m4 ipad pro I really don't think I can skip it. Will probably put a skin on it so it isn't super slippery on the back but leave it caseless so I can maximize the size and weight difference from my 16 Pro.

Pardon me if this was already covered but uhhh.. looks like the camera module doesn't match the corner radius of the frame (or even come close really.) I kind of can't believe they did that.

Apple today unveiled the iPhone Air, an all-new kind of iPhone featuring an ultra-thin design.

iphone-air.jpg

The iPhone Air is just 5.6mm thick, making it the thinnest iPhone ever. The frame is made of titanium with a polished mirror finish. The device features Ceramic Shield 2 with 3x better scratch resistance and 4x better crack resistance, on both sides of the device for the first time. Apple says that it is the most durable iPhone ever. A new plateau spans the entire rear width of the device and contains the rear camera, front camera, speaker, and Apple Silicon.

It features a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness — the highest ever on an iPhone. The front glass also features a 7-layer antireflective coating to reduce glare and distractions, and be more readable in bright lighting conditions.

The iPhone Air features a single 48-megapixel rear fusion camera, with 1x and 2x modes from one camera. A 18-megapixel front-facing camera features Center Stage that uses AI to automatically expand the field of view and rotate the frame for you based on how many people are on the screen. A square sensor allows four different composition sizes, so you don't need to rotate the phone to take a landscape selfie.

New features combines the front and rear cameras, with dual-capture video. Stabilization from the front camera keeps you in frame, while rear camera lets you zoom in.

The iPhone Air features the A19 Pro chip, featuring a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU. The GPU is updated with the second generation of Dynamic Caching, doubled math rates, and unified image compression.

It also contains the new C1X custom modem that's twice as fast as the C1 in the iPhone 16e. A new custom-designed N1 chip integrates Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, and Thread connectivity. It is eSIM only.

The high-performance A19 Pro, N1, and C1X chips make it the most power-efficient iPhone ever made, according to Apple. Despite its thin design, the iPhone Air still delivers "all-day" battery life.

The iPhone Air takes the place of the "Plus" model in the lineup, sitting above the standard iPhone 17 but below the iPhone 17 Pro.

The iPhone Air comes in Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold and Sky Blue with pricing starting at $999. Pre-order start on Friday, with availability on September 19.

Can you find out why it doesn’t have cinematic mode like the rest of the lineup?

I plan to stick with my 12 mini until it dies but this looks like a winner and would probably be my next upgrade. Time will tell how good it actually is compared to Apple's commercial.
Just get a used 13 mini, it's battery life is more tolerable than the 12 mini and it's chip is slightly faster

I'm impressed. Very impressed.

What a beautiful design and so much amazing tech packed into something so thin. And that single lens camera is capable of a lot.

The battery life does seem too good to be true.

It's worth remembering that even the regular iPhones are meant to have had 'all day battery life' for years and they really don't. I expect that the iPhone air will be similar.

And it's obviously the future of the regular iPhone.

It will be interesting to see the reviews several months from now once the hype and newness wears off.

For now the great advantage is the fact that Apple has something new to distract from their struggles with AI.

I’m not convinced this phone would wirelessly charge on my car’s flat charging pad. Surely the size of that bump means that the phone is not going to lay flat, and will therefore not make good contact.

Looks really nice! I love that they've gotten away from good->better->best and especially correlating that with big->bigger->biggest, though I still pine for a Pro mini iPhone. I guess thin is the only kind of small Apple is willing to give us in phones, now.

Nope. Thats a Pro thing for now. They added a new antenna at the top to support it.
eh? Every base iphone going back at least to the 13 supported mmWave. The Air and 16e are the only ones according to Apple's compare page that don't support mmWave. Base 17 does, as did the 16, 15, 14, etc.
