Apple Announces Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)

Final Cut Pro 3 on Panther

Are there any ADC members out there with Final Cut Pro 3? Is so, does it run with Panther okay?

I don't need to upgrade to FCP 4 but do plan on going to 10.3
 
enough of this "apple isnt putting a gun to your head to upgrade" bull ****.

i dont want to get reprimanded, so i will avoid calling those people "anal". a previous post is right, everyone breaks the law. if you people who complain that installing the OS on 2 different computers is wrong, then i dont want to ever see you people speeding, jaywalking or littering.

label me a prick, i dont care. i may very well be a prick, but there is no way im going to be a software prude.

What if you don't load Jaguar on the computer, but on an external drive. Can you shuttle the boot drive between two computers?

hey hey hey, slow down there. Stealing is stealing, where it's software, or hardware, or money, it's stealing. Stealings bad. I think all you theif's need god in your life. Especially Wonderboy

We could spend the rest of our lives nitpicking the Panther licensing rules from every conceivable angle. And I'm all in favor of it. Great discussion! How 'bout these important issues?

* If you are illiterate, are you subject to license agreements that are displayed on the screen during installation?

* If a husband and wife share a family pack for their his-and-hers Macs, and then she throws the bum and his Mac out of the house for spending too much time at rumor sites, is the poor sap's O.S. license invalidated?

* If a student purchases Panther with an educational discount but is then thrown out of school for grade tampering, plagiarism, bad grades, frequent intoxication, vandalism, disturbing the peace, repeated tardiness, non-political correctness, loitering, and wearing a rival school's colors, and this happens before the Panther ship date, is he/she obligated to change the order to a non-educational one?

* If you buy one copy of Panther and install it on your PowerBook, but then accidentally drop the PowerBook off the top of one of the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, under the license can you install Panther on another PowerBook before the first one hits the ground, and does it depend on whether the PowerBook's power is still on?

Everyone, if you bought a computer recently, just go to the website and try the up-to-date program. Enter your s/n and the date you bought it, and see if they'll give you a $20 copy. Apparently this is working for people who bought the AlBooks even 2-3 weeks ago.

I haven't seen "nitpicking the Panther licensing rules from every conceivable angle" in this thread. All I've seen is "I want to upgrade all of my machines without paying" vs. "You should pay if you want to upgrade."
 
i imagine i must be one of those "anal" ones...

just to clarify... speeding and jaywalking are acts of breaking the law. it's wrong only because the law says so. there's nothing inherently wrong with those acts except as defined by the law.

installing panther on two machines is breaking an agreement. it's "wrong" in a different way because you are not keeping your words.

frankly, i don't care. i'm not a saint. but it's a peeve of mine when i hear "justifications" for software (and music) pirating. i don't care if you do it, those acts themselves don't bother me, morally or otherwise. it just bothers me when people try to justify them or find excuses for them.

regardless, it will be exciting to get a copy. debating whether to order online now or go to the store nearby (novi, mi, apple store - only 25 min. away) a few days after it's released...
 
The 'is it legal to install on 2 machines' argument will never have a winner. Why don't you all stop worying about it? If these people are going to do, they will do it wheter you like it or not, but they should just get on with it quietly. I thought it was against policy to be blatantly discussing piracy like this on here? If you don't like it, fine, you have made your point, but enough already. It is getting boring now, and whatever you say, the people who are going to do will do so anyway.

My suggestion is drop it, do what you want to do, and leave each other alone.
 
G5 installed with 10.3

For those of us who waited to buy...when does the G5 ship with 10.3 installed (screw an upgrade)?

Any ideas?

I ordered mine sept 18th, and have an est. ship date of 10/24/2003 just like a lot of people im noticing. And it's not coming sooner like a lot of others, im guessing probably anyones shipped from now on will have panther, because they'd be stupid to wait till once delivered 10/24 and send them a box with panther installed (which you could use to install on a seperate computer too) as opposed to simply installing it, and having that on the install disk, so it can't be pirated.
 
If I got jer2665 and Wonder Boy to smile, I'm happy too, whether or not my questions get answered.

Whose side am I on? I follow license rules but enjoy the intellectual challenge of testing the limits in theory. (I have 4 Macs with Jaguar, so the Family Pack will suit me fine.) I read the license details to find out, for example, whether I can install one Family Pack copy on my personal Mac at work and one copy on my personal Mac at home. Apparently, the answer is YES if I work at home, because then my office Mac is "in my household", and otherwise NO.

ok, this is my last post here... jaywalking is illega regardless of whether you have license or not...

as marccarter wrote, i agree, it's time to drop it. i will. but please, if you are going to do something illegal, do it quietly. it does bother some of us, as we all found out. i'm not here to condone your illegal acts - i don't have the right to nor do i want to pass judgement on others. but i can't help that it bothers me when people openly discuss illegal stuff...
 
I asked this question earlier in the thread but never got a reply:

For the up-to-date program, you pay $20, but does that give you Panther in a retail box? Or is it some crappy "Upgrade CD" that requires you to insert Jaguar first?

Or is it a new restore DVD that just has Panther on it?

Or is it just the OS CDs like ADC members get?

If discussing illegal downloading bothers you so much, that's on you. I only have ONE mac and will load PANTHER the day it comes out. I'm just giving my opinion. Piracy is a big computer topic, if you dont like it, well i cant do nothing about it.

I feel this is kind of interesting, from the apple up to date site...

Multiple Qualifying Computers on a Single Invoice
If you purchased multiple qualifying Power Mac G5 systems on a single invoice, you can either (1) purchase a Single-User CD Upgrade Kit for each qualifying product, at a cost of US$19.95*; or (2) purchase fewer Single-User CD Upgrade Kits and request the Right to Copy for the remaining qualifying products.

i actually like that they give you that option instead of trying to bang you for what they can.
 
I heard about this at school from two of our student server admins. Our almost 100% PC network (there's a few old iMacs and like three eMacs in the media center and art room, respectfully) will hopefully receive a dual 2GHz G5 and Panther Server. I think a pro Mac user like myself deserves to be the admin of that server, after all, I'm the only Mac user in our computer club! 🙂

So the rebellion begins... 😀
