John Browett how the heck did he event get to work for Apple in the first place? They obviously have never seen the abysmal customer service in a PC World, Curries, Comet etc. Usually where the customer know more than the staff xD. Always found that in my case anyway.

He didn't talk because there was no new OS to show. He was at the iPhone event because he demoed iOS 6 on the new iPhone with the new software features (Panorama.)

Yeah but I figured they'd at least show it off with the new screen size. Plus with the iPhone 5 they re-showed off all of iOS 6 on the iPhone 5, not just the new features... Idk just seemed weird that the iOS guy wouldn't do anything at a new iOS device keynote.

Man, Ive designing the OS look and feel...

Now even the Applications will become incredibly thin!

Is this large corporate politics? Sounds like communist party, after the emperor died, some tried to gain more power, others get executed.

Scott Forstall departure comes as a shock to me, he has been dubbed many times as the next Steve Jobs, he was treated specially by Jobs too in Apple.
Apple is under major changes, they will become a completely different Apple now under Tim Cook, they will sell Steve's products and ideas, but they will all come in a new operation, Apple becoming a corporation, instead of being ran like a 'start-up' like Steve used to say.. oh how I miss Steve Jobs and his attitude. :apple:

Overall VERY positive news. Surprised to hear about Forstall. I am a fan. He will be fine. He is making bank.

To Steve, Ive was the new Woz. His job is secure till death.

We now know Steve and Tim have one thing in common. They relentlessly and rapidly cut the underbrush no matter the cost or blast-back. BUY AAPL.

Rocketman

Skeumorphism is a minor issue (I do not really care how stuff looks in most cases). Things like "missing" file system is a totally different matter and a matter where industrial designer would have no clue.

That’s a massive assumption, especially about someone who’s worked at one of the handful of companies that actually produce operating systems for more than two decades. Just because a person is known for one thing, does not make them ignorant of the expertise of another.

What's the reason he left?

My guess is he must have called tim cook a prick.

I really do wonder what led to this. There's a few things I can think of:
  • Internal conflict amongst exec's, primarily Ive vs. Forstall, although I've heard rumblings that Forstall was perhaps the reason why Mansfield was wanting to leave earlier this year as well.
  • iOS 6 across the media being seen as stale and the same-old - not bad mind you, but just needing a refresh
  • Maps being the PR disaster it has been for Apple

Regardless, I've always seen him as one of the weakest links in the exec team, leading arguably one of the most important divisions of the company. With Ive in charge of Human Interface, the future iOS, is one I look very forward to seeing!!

The problem is Ive is an industrial designer not a software engineer. I'll be extremely impressed if he actually can implement a design what works well virtually.

No, the fact that he's not a software engineer is critical. As a general rule software engineers are the worst people to be doing UI/UX design.
