If it was true they would have left the chargers out of the box and given a free ice to those who wanted it or reduced the iPhone price by the cost of the charger. It’s profit seeking. That and nothing else.

Your reply makes no sense. You're replying to someone who's saying the lack of charging cables/bricks can be both for environmental impact and profit, and you reply with "that would be true if they did it for only environmental reasons" 🤦🏼‍♂️ He's saying they can do it for BOTH reasons. The two reasons are not mutually exclusive. I simply can't believe anyone can't understand this. This is such a simple concept.

This is something that I don’t like. I pay Apple prices to get an ad free, secure user experience. I really hope this doesn’t expand to other parts of iOS like some rumours have suggested (maps for example).

I'm not really seeing what the big deal is. There's no indication in this article that these ads are going to interfere with using the App Store. For instance, when you go to download an app, it's not going to hijack the screen with an ad that you have to let time out before you can download your app. THAT I can understand being annoying. But just ads on the main page that you can simply ignore? What's the problem with that?

EDIT: If people are going to "disagree" with the comment, the least you could do is answer the question. Why are these types of ads an issue for you? How do they negatively affect you?

. . . still waiting for you negative reactors to give your counter arguments. Shouldn't be that hard should it?

Ads are one of the two reasons why I won't be renewing my Apple News + subscription. The other is the increasing amount of content that requires a separate subscription, such as Barron's.

Apple finding little ways to pad profit margins in a big way, that is Tim's #1 job after all.

Ads, not including chargers and/or cables with some products. It all adds up to a lot of extra profit overall. They lied and fooled people that it was for the environment with the cables/chargers. I wonder if they can somehow spin this as something admirable and get those same fools to fall for this as well.

Edit: For those disliking this without bothering to comment back, please answer one simple question. If it is not being done for profit reasons, why wouldn't Apple just include a voucher in the box for a free cable/charger if needed?

A lot of things can go into pricing a phone. We simply don't know how excluding chargers impacted Apple pricing. Perhaps if Apple still included chargers, the entry price of an iPhone 12, 13 or 14 would’ve been $849 (or more) instead of $829. Given that, no one can say for sure how much of the decision was for profit reasons, environmental reasons or a combination.

Some Apple customers are masochists, I am convinced.

No more cable and/or charger in the box but price stays the same? Fine with them! In fact, they'll defend Apple for the decision to the death even.

Adding advertisements where editorial content used to be? Fine with them! In fact, they'll defend Apple for the decision to the death even.

Why would apple reduce the price when clearly in these inflationary times the price of everything has gone up. As it is apple held the line on the price of the phone.
Perhaps lower their margins like every other business is forced to do. In any form of reality, ÂŁ1500+ for a 1TB phone is just not sustainable to keep increasing. Most of the world has had a pay cut in real times.

Can I ask the App Store not to track?

Today Apple is going to reinvent the Ad. And today we are introducing the Ad 3G the best Ad ever. Today we are introducing the Ad 3Gs, the s stands for sucker.

These are ads like you've never ever seen them before! In fact, you don't even know it's an ad. We believe in Privacy, it is a fundamental right. So starting today, when you purchase our devices, Google, Meta, and Microsoft and all other companies will NOT track you, (applause) only we will track you! (applause!)

I gets ads on my $2000+ computer. They are online but they are still there even with robust router and browser level blocking.

If I spent $10,000 or $100 on a computer they’d be there too.
Does your computer cost more than other computers?

On my part I don't want Apple ads and I don't want to pay subscriptions to Apple. They really are becoming a run-of-the-mill company. It's not like they have been excelling at quality control, privacy, or innovation lately. The latest GUI for iOS has all the elegance of a boarded-up strip mall.

Doesn’t this bloodsucking company make enough money already?
No, lol.
Never enough, but since they are publicly traded, it is understandbaly their main mission.

The weird thing is some customers not only saying it is fine with them, but actively cheering it on.
I would think its fine for those cheering them on that are shareholders.... but for the ones that are just owning and buying product "shareholders" I think that's funny.

It is good to see some of the people who bought into the environmental lie are coming around to at least say it is for "both reasons". Originally those people were saying it was purely for the environment so progress is being made there.

Don't put words in my mouth. I NEVER said it was "only" for environmental reasons. If others did and are backtracking, take them to task, not me.

And Apple also never said it was only for environmental reasons. So it appears the "lies" are coming from people like you, not Apple.

It's in the App Store, not the main OS.... I'm sure I'm a bit out of an outlier, but I probably haven't opened the App Store in six months.

How often are people even going to see these?

I wasn't talking about you. I was referring to others. You'll notice I said "originally those people" and not "originally you".

You need a router level ad blocker for that. Pi-Hole, firewalla, stuff like that.
Awesome. I use PiHole and Wireguard VPN (to use it away from home) for all of my devices.
