I am so excited that Apple is finally going "Back to the Mac". Designing new chips just for the Mac platform is HUGE!

I used to be a detractor too (especially the last decade...ugh). But man, Apple is new. Shiny and new. The future looks fantastic.

this is the first time im gonna say it, and i'll say it strong: this is not a pro device. they took the exact same chip showed off for a macbook air and a mac mini, slapped pro on it and then somehow claimed this sucker is going to perform way better, and called it "pro"

not even like an M2 or M1X, it's the same processor. no mention of it being higher clock speed, higher ram, better gpu, etc in the base config at this higher price.
It’s got an extra GPU core (8 vs 7) according to the store app. Not sure that makes enough of a difference though!

Yeah, this event is certainly curious. Apple stated the macbook air allows you to use it without compromise on power, then they sling the same processor in the macbook pro and put a fan in it. Clearly the macbook air is not a ‘no compromise’ experience, otherwise it would have a fan too. Also somewhat dubious about the marketing that the air never gets warm. Without a fan, it has to either get hot, or defy the laws of thermodynamics.

Time will tell I guess, but overall a modest improvement (based on apples marketing) compared to what was before. Disappointed in the GPU though, noticed discernible frame loss on the videos in the presentation of games and 3d modelling. Since apple only usually show best case in such a presentation, that may not bode well for the macs future in some industries; and almost certainly the end of gaming.

The upsales for the storage/ram are ridiculously overpriced. You need 16GB for a laptop that's going to last longer than 2 years. Flash storage is also cheap af these days, and charging $200 for upgrading 256->512 is absolutely nuts. This is good only for increasing apple stock prices.

They kept the same price point here as the entry level 13" MBP right, at $1299? The one that with the re-design, didn't come with a TB, and prior to the change to M1, only had 2 TB3 ports vs 4 TB3 ports?

Given this only has 2 TB3/USB4 ports, I wonder if the next announcement (maybe coinciding with the 16" Pro ASi release), they'll announce a higher-end 13" MBP with 4 TB3/USB4 ports (presumably like the 16" MBP will have), and potentially a better processor (either more cores unlocked, more memory supported, higher frequency, etc.?)

Ram upgrade from 8 gb to 16 gb is 200 USD.

Less ports? Easily the worst decision today, that would've been one of the few things to entice people to choose a Pro over an Air would've been the 4 ports. Foolish as I see it. This could work out like the 15" MacBook Pro and FW800 though, it could go back up to 4 next revision.

I am not sure if Apple is fooling me with words, but is any one listening to the numbers here?! "3x , 1.5x , 4x , 10 more, 2.9 faster"....
We haven't seen these kinds of numbers on computers since like the 90s!!

MacBook Pro. A lot of people rely on the MacBook Pro for things that are both CPU and Memory intensive. Even if Apple Silicon Macs use less memory on average, 16GB almost certainly isn’t enough for most Pros if you want to use your Mac for at least a couple of years.
Lol....people have been saying that about iPads and iPhones forever yet they continue to smash the competition...often times with half the memory.

only two ports???? whyyy twooo.. guess im going have to wait till they push out the 4 thunder bolt model and hopefully in a 14" form 😭

oh and now i can really have a real 10hr battery life use out of it...🤨

Same as I was thinking, face id or at least s o m e t h i n g to get achieve a pro signature

Has Apple become a boring company? I mean, the chips look promising but their products look literally the same and have looked the same for around a decade and a half. I was expecting at the very least a name change. They used to show the new hardware/design first and then show the details. Now it just seems to be about the details.
You must be new to Apple or you'd have remembered the Intel transition back in 2006, when no new designs were promptly introduced.

Random observation - looking at the Apple Store it’s apparent that the new 13” M1 Pro is intended to replace the lower end MacBook Pros with 8th generation Intel processors and two Thunderbolt 3 ports. They’re still selling the MacBook Pros with 10th generation Intel chips and four Thunderbolt 3 ports. Maybe they’re waiting for the M2 or M1X for this model?
