It's really crazy how there's not even a minimal aesthetic change not even to celebrate the "back to Apple chips". I wonder if the hardware design team at Apple even work?, there's no more poetry in there.. they just repeat the same design from 5 years ago. Disappointing!

There you have it ... and it was all going so well .... the new chips can only handle up
iPhone can perform much better than Android flagships with half the RAM.

Maybe Apple silicon doesn’t need as much RAM as an Intel chip since this is the first Mac with optimised software with dedicated hardware.

I wonder if the active cooling on the new MacBook Pro will make its clock speed way faster than the new Air? Otherwise, it seems like a bigger processor boost for the Air, and a big battery boost for the Pro.

Ram upgrade from 8 gb to 16 gb is 200 USD.

Yea, I find it pretty ridiculous that they say they're all about environmental consciousness, why would they sell laptops designed to last only a year or 2? Better yet, why not allow user upgradeable storage/ram on the Pro lineup? Apple is just being plain greedy with the pricing of these laptops.

Am I alone feeling more than disappointed about no body redesign? :(
And, they are comparing performance to Windows laptops, which again brings forth my favorite topic: is some sort of official 'Boot Camp' support for M1 Macs expected? No word on this so far.
Like our parents taught us, it’s what’s inside that counts. :)

I think the 16gb is there in base Air but they’re locking it off with software.
I think you’re underestimating just how optimized this thing is going to be. You won’t need 32gb ram.
We shall see. I doubt that will be the case for photo/video editing software though.

Purchased the new Macbook Pro and returning the one I just bought to Costco. Not getting burned again like I did in the Power PC transition.

Petty I know.... but couldn't we have upped the camera from 720P to 1080P? It's 2020 Apple... not 2006

I think you're seriously underestimating how un-optimized Adobe CC is and that'll be running under rosetta! I would be very surprised if Adobe actually released AS versions of the ENTIRE suite before the end of 2021.

You must be new to Apple or you'd have remembered the Intel transition back in 2006, when no new designs were promptly introduced.
I absolutely agree with you iAFC.. I'm so disappointed as well with the hardware design team.. I don't even know if the work?.. rafark we shouldn't defend mediocrity!

It doesn’t matter how optimised it is - if you’re working with massive assets then you need memory, and lots of it. 16GB (or even 8) will be fine for most people, but it will be limiting for a lot

Unless there is a version of Windows running on ARM, no. Ok, such a version of Windows exists (for the Surface Pro X), but that’s only half of what one would need. Few people would want Boot Camp for the joy of running Windows, they want it to run Windows-only applications. And very few of those of probably have been ported to run on ARM.

Put it like this, unless the Windows app you are interested in runs natively on the Surface Pro X, there is little utility in something like Boot Camp.
