I get why Apple is still skimping on starting out at the low end for Memory/RAM, but it caps out at 32GB??? If I'm going to get a pro machine, I'm going to want more than that, especially after using this M1 MBP for so long. I suppose for the price, though, doubling the memory and storage is alright.

Wait till the Pro Max machines are out, then you’ll get to upgrade to 128 GB, maybe even more this year.

Base memory on the 14" Pro needs to be at least 24GB. 16GB base for any Pro variant is a bit ridiculous in 2025.

You guys crack me up. I remember not that long ago people were complaining about 8GB not being enough, 16GB should be standard. Now that 16GB is standard "it should be at least 24GB!".

Talk about a disaster... So now you have a new 14" MBP that you can get with an M5 chip, but wait! You can still get the 14" with the M4 Pro and M4 Max. What a convoluted nightmare. Apple should wait to release all the M5 chips at once instead of this abomination. Want a 16" MBP? Sorry, M4 chips only!

Pro and Max models do have better features than the non-Pro MacBooks. Giving WIFI 7 in a Pro model and not the base model makes sense.

probably user error.
no really, my base M1 13" smoked 2018 Mini Hex i7. I still have a retina 2012 15" i7 and although it's a great laptop, it doesn't outperform any M1 under any circumstances

theyre probably skipping the m5 pro and max macbooks because of the rumoured m6 redesign, if they make the base m5 macbook looking old compared to the other macbooks it would get people to buy the newer one

I hope it's rather that they Pro chip needs longer testing as it is aimed at higher memory bandwidth and sustained high workloads

The ports are Thunderbolt 4 rather than Thunderbolt 5. The M4 Pro version seems to be the better option. Otherwise go with the M4 Air and get a Thunderbolt 4 hub and save some money.

The chip is temporary as the Air will get it as well eventually (right now the M4 air can be bought easily for 900 and as low as 800 - I did not even consider these discounts).

Do the other specs enable you to do more? No. 120hz is the only thing nice on that list.

You can just buy a significantly cheaper third party adapter that supports multiple usb cables.
