You've hit on something that Apple has to be doing on purpose. Every time Apple updates a machine, it is the "most powerful and capable ever" - why else would they upgrade it? I bet the crack Apple PR team has a good laugh at this continuous trolling!

There was the time when they got rid of the quad processor option in the Mac mini.

Strange, Apple will jump on USB-C before it's widely available, but refuse to add wifi6 on 13" MacBook Pro and the iMac.
Not really! Apple already added WiFi 6 to it's iPhone. So, you ask yourself what Apple's plan with MACs ? Have little patience and you will Wov,Wov,Wov what Apple does with MACs introduced with it's own Silicon. Dream will come true with features and better price/performace.

Everyone in forums like this still banging on about the 'tired' design. With the exception of the bezels (which hopefully will be reduced in the re-design) there's nothing tired about it.

It's a CLASSIC piece of product design that will go down in history as such. Most regular consumers still look at the iMac and think 'That's a gorgeous piece of design'. Very few PC designs even today look as good.
It is very chic as they would say, my only concern is with heat dissipation with everything added, getting rid if the fusion with HDD reduces some heat and allow interior space. I like to see what it’s looks like internally compared to the previous model. :)

Still the best looking all-in-one by far though.

EXACTLY!

Classic, almost timeless piece of product design and always will be. I understand ppl wishing for thinner bezels, but besides that, I STILL don't see any better looking PC equivalents. Great design is great design. You don't look at an Eames chair and think 'oh that looks dated'.

Hopefully MacRumors will do an article on the Nano-Texture glass when they get their hands on one.
Does this improve HDR aspects of the new model? It got a T2, that previously was something only the IMac Pro, latest 16” MacBook Pro offered. It doesn’t specifically say that outright, but it would be odd if this was’t the first regular iMac that could?

I've noticed one indicator of a pending release is Apple clearing out the refurbished section the night before. This doesn't give you much forward indication, just one day or less, but last night Apple cleared out the iMac Pro and iMac refurbs. There were many just a day ago. They'll go up again soon with new lower pricing.

Do we know for certain this has the T2 chip? Will it be possible to downgrade this to Mojave?

It should be fine. It just specs 2666Mhz SODIMMs. Even if yours are 2400Mhz it should be fine, it will just run at the lower speeds and timings.

Thanks! Oh, I guess I could have looked into it a little bit more, the 2020 iMac is 2666Mhz and so is the RAM from OWC that I ordered for the 2019 iMac.

Even a broke as f*** clock is right twice a day.

Only if it's an analog clock, or one of those old analog "digital" clocks with flipping numbers.

I would like to confirm this as well!

Yes:

"8GB (two 4GB) of 2666MHz DDR4 memory; four SO-DIMM slots, user accessible

Configurable to 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB"

I wonder if this week will be the announcement week - iMac (Tues); AirPods Studio (Wed); HomePod Mini (Thurs).

Unlikely, but fingers crossed.

I've been holding off buying a second HomePod because surely they have to update it in some way soon. If it's a Mini, I'd buy two - one for my office, one for the master bed/bath.

I'd also love for there to be a cordless, rechargeable one I could take outside.

For those complaining about no visual redesign, it would make no sense to completely design the hardware on a non Apple Silicon Mac. Clearly the next major redesign will be on Apple Silicon, and this is simply to give customers who want higher specs now on the current hardware rather than waiting a year or two. 1080p is a welcome addition. With covid, it's really shined a light on how poor the cameras are, so imagine we'll see 1080p across the board and 4k possibily on apple silicon macs or at least ones with hardware large enough to support it.

I wonder if they have done anything with the cooling. 10th gen i9 with the 5700 XT is gonna be pretty toasty.

Maybe I'm off-base, but 256GB base storage on an iMac in 2020 feels laughable. Interesting that it's also the only SSD option on the low-end 21, and that 1TB Fusion is a "free" upgrade...if you want to call it that (IMO it is on that particular model, and for anyone who can sacrifice SSD performance for storage).

Glad I went base 10th gen 13" MBP instead of i3 Air + waiting out this iMac refresh. Will happily ride out the transition and hiccups on this, and figure the rest out in 3-5 years.
