Still the same tired old design.
No 802.11ax.
Comet lake which is just rehashed Skylake from 2016.
Fusion drive is still an option for some bizarre reason.

At least they finally did something about the webcam and 10GbE.

I like the design. A matter of personal taste, no?

No AX, but the option for 10Gb Ethernet, for which we've been waiting a loooong time.

Can't argue that the last couple of gens of Intel Core chips have not moved the ball very far downfield, but 10 x i9's is a nice option.

Fusion drive is NOT an option on the 27-inch iMac (2020). Are you perhaps looking at the 21-inch specs?

The update from 8-Core to the 10-core is just not worth it...IMHO. Unless you REALLY have a workload that is going to benefit from those two extra cores, I suspect the T2 is going to make up the difference in other areas to obviate that upgrade.

I would love to see the differential between the 5500XT and the 5700XT before saying Nay.

The SSD costs are typically Apple, so I don’t really notice them as they are what they are.

Let’s hope some benchmarks of the 5500XT versus the 5700XT are in somebody’s pipeline.

Its pretty sweet you can get the 5700xt in a mac right now. Its a legit video card, and I'd be curious to see how well it does in boot camp.

Apple today also made a minor update to the iMac Pro, equipping the base configuration with the 10-core 3.0 GHz Xeon W chip that was previously an upgrade option. In addition, the smaller 21.5-inch iMac now comes standard with SSDs across the line for the first time. Customers can still choose to configure their 21.5-inch iMac with a Fusion Drive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is today the day that ALL Macs come standard with SSDs across the line for the first time?

Is the spinning-disk hard drive finally dead(dying) to Apple?!

This would be the best iNews in an incredibly long time.

Doesn’t seem like there’ll be a redesign this year then. Again. Sigh.

Maybe in 2030

The question is if the chassis can really handle the 10 core model at all considering it's still 14nm tech

Also with the 5700XT, this is going to be best gaming mac until if/ever gaming industry decides to adopt Apple Silicon and bring the latest AAA games as bootcamp won't be an option for the future ARMacs

I was going to say this, thats a freaking insane video card for a mac. I'd be curious to see how it does in bootcamp. Right now I keep an older pc to switch to play games, but with this it could just be not worth doing that.

Thanks Apple.

I was about to make a HUGE mistake and buy the 16 inch macbook pro with the 9th gen intel CPUS and the 5600m. Me thinks apple will release a newer macbook pro 16 inch with 10th gen cpus and who knows maybe a little price cut on the 5600m? :D

One can hope, any confirmed rumors?

Seems like a lot of folks hate the large bezels, but for me the biggest nit to pick is the lack of height adjustability. I had a mini with an LG Ultrafine 27 for a while, and was always able to find a comfortable height. With my iMac Pro, I can't find the sweet spot. I generally find the iMac aesthetic to be pleasing, but lack of height adjustment is a clear case of form over function.

I was hoping to see the T2 chip used for security, such as a FaceID or a change to the keyboard (I'm guessing it would need to be wired).

I'm assuming this is the last Intel iMac?

Yup it's about level with a RTX 2070 minus the useless Tensor cores. This is a really great all in one machine. The Apple Silicon imac will force you to have a PC for at least several years (or forever as I remember clearly my PPC days and dearth of gaming) if you want the latest PC gaming.

2842 days of the same exterior design (since 10/2012)

3941 days of the same screen sizes and bezels (since 10/2009)

5817 days of the same aluminum stand with no height adjustments (since 08/2004)

I don't get it...

Nothing drastic changed. An internal spec bump, no physical changes, and today is the day the iMac (in your mind) is gone?

Not until the full redesign with Apple Silicon. No need to bid farewell just yet. The clock keeps ticking though.

There's a lot of frustrated people regarding the lack of design changes, and other factors, and I get it.

Honestly I'm just excited to see a new Mac in the store - always makes me happy to see!

Except who will buy an Apple silicon iMac anytime soon that can’t run any essential software, is locked down, or had little dev support? That’s stupid. Either buy an intel Mac or switch to windows are the only real options now.

Well, no one can buy Apple Silicon iMac soon...it won't be out until late 2020 or early 2021.

So this Intel Mac is ideal. But I think you'll be surprised to see how many and how popular Apple Silicon iMacs (and other Macs) will be if the speed gains are real. Add a whole new form factor with smaller bezels and it will fly off the shelves.

I assume I will be able to upgrade the RAM myself in this machine as well, however I don't like assuming things. Does anyone yet have any confirmation that this "new" iMac will allow that just like the previous versions did?

Edit: Never mind, y'all are fast. This nearly doubled in size from the time I started writing this reply to the time I posted, it and I see the answer now.

Love how everyone is commenting on the frikken camera upgrade! 😂 (and rightly so)

We'd probably all agree, Apple has a high level of polish and detail to product design. Therefore, it really stands out when they allow something mediocre (like the 720p cam) to become the default, year in and year out.

You've hit on something that Apple has to be doing on purpose. Every time Apple updates a machine, it is the "most powerful and capable ever" - why else would they upgrade it? I bet the crack Apple PR team has a good laugh at this continuous trolling!
Speaking of the claims of something being the most powerful and capable ever, aren’t a whole bunch of us guilty of the same thing with discussing Apple Silicon before it’s time? This computer when choosing options quickly ramps up in price. It’s probably the most expensive iMac in awhile. I don’t see HDR being mentioned, I thought because of the T2 inclusion it would be. SSD 512 MB rather then 1 TB that’s a bit scalping IMHO. :)
