I hope so. The 399 price point is lower than I was thinking, so I fear it may only have 1gb!

Is there any current Apple device that has a9 + 1gb? Or would they have to make a new soc for that?

If the only a9 soc available has 2gb, then I'd be pretty confident of 2gb because I don't think they'll do a new soc when they could just use the old one.
price point would worry without a doubt. but 1gb with all the new feature would just be stupid. It would accelerate the iphone sales decline.
one other thing im kinda miffed about is the 1.2mp front facing camera.. i mean wtf....

Apple must be insean to charge nearly 600 dollars on this thing... Plus 13% tax, this thing is way overpriced in Canada.

For customers, I do not care about exchange rate, all I care is how much I have to pay for the thing.

Heh, do you not understand how foreign currency works? It's priced in USD, so that's pretty much what you (and everyone else on the planet) is paying for it.... including the people in the USA. That Canada's currency is is low compared to the USD is a problem to take up with Trudeau.

Something also...I've had the 6s for about 5 months now and this thing is so fast it's crazy. I can imagine it lasting for years with no problem. That's why I was happy when they said at keynote the SE will be at speeds of the 6s. That means with those specs the SE will last a long time and be super fast and I can see people keeping the SE for 3 or 4 yrs and still working perfectly.

Yes, as long as it has 2GB of RAM, I'd expect it will last a while. What will kill it is some iOS update... so how long that will be is kind of in Apple's hands.

as usual Apple foreign countries price policy is just terrible....

I guess they could refresh it more often, but it isn't that out of line. As I said above, the problem is more the Canadian economy than Apple.

Yes, and I can still see the same pixelation I noticed in 2010...

As was said... don't hold it so close! :) If you can see pixelation at over 300ppi on a color image, you're almost certainly holding it too close or have pretty darn sharp eyes. If that latter, wait a couple of years.

No I am not complaining at all. I am quite happy with the 5S's Touch ID, I use it everyday. But it would of been nice if the new SE would of had the 2nd gen Touch ID considering that it costs $579 plus tax for 16GB or $709 for 64GB plus tax in Canada. I don't think that's to much to ask for the $655 base model phone. The 1st gen Touch ID tech Is how old?

For sure, I can't imagine there was a technical reason, so it's probably for product-line differentiation. :(

I think the "hey siri" feature requires a different (new?) micrphone technology

That would be my guess as well.

Metro you can get some burner phones https://www.metropcs.com/cell-phones.html like a galaxy out the door with month to month for under $100

Wow, seriously? There's no catch? You can actually go in and buy this and you're done? Not that I'd do it, as it isn't iOS, but I can't hardly see how they are making a profit.

I think they are pretty much guessing, just like us...

A9 doesn't exists in a package with 1 Gb of ram, plus the support to 4K video recording let me think the iPhone SE uses the same SoC of the iPhone 6S, thus with 2 Gb of RAM.

I *sure* hope you're right! That's the key to it having reasonable longevity. That will be make/break for me.

Little disappointed with the front camera but all in all a pretty solid little phone.

I could not go back to a 4" screen but this is perfect for those who despise the 6. You're getting 6S power in a 5S shell.

Does it have the new Touch ID or the slower ?

This is a risky product for Apple. Really odd to see them making something the market dictates rather then just putting out what they want regardless

No the SE does not have 2nd gen Touch ID.

I wonder if there is any technical difference with Touch ID generation in terms of security. THAT might an issue in light of the recent FBI debacle.

I am happy to report you that I already did.

I could not care less about iOS... Android is plenty more advanced than iOS. At least it has 1080P screen than grabgage sub 720P screen. Oh, by the way, my Nexus 5 runs faster than iPhone 6S...

iPhone SE really only worth 299 or 350 at max. This is just as overpriced as all Apple stuff... Seriously, 2016, still 16GB and still sub 720P screen. At 399, it is terrible deal... Not motion price in Canada is way over the top
we don't care about the "advanced" Android : this thread is about an iPhone.

And a Nexus 5 runs faster than an iPhone 6S only in a parallel dimension.

If you need more storage, usually it isn't for apps but for contents ...
iOS surely is more optimized than Android (especially with TW..) but 16 Gb still is not enough if you want to store music, videos and photos.
16 Gb is fine for users like my wife: she has no more than 6 apps installed, a few photos (she move them on the Mac quite often) and almost no videos on her iPhone.
But she would be fine even with a 32 Gb model....

But even apps are getting larger all the time and chewing up space. A lot of people would be fine with 32GB, but if that was standard, less people would upgrade, less revenue for Apple. The 9.7" iPad Pro offers 32GB as a starting point, but now it is $200 more than the 16GB Air 2, and $100 more than the Air 2 prior to today. Will Apple do the same with the iPhone 7 and raise the price points?

Why do I need to care about how forigen currency work? I only care about price over here... And 600 dollars for a phone that uses 4 years old desgin and subpar specification is over the top.

It is like you are trying to get lower mortgage, when I shop for mortgage, I take the lowest mortgage and then I will try to get bank price match each other. Why do I care about how much money banks make?

In the end of day, Canadians pays boat load more...and 600 dollar is just way to overpricrd. LOL

agree.
16 Gb are no longer enough and Apple should switch to the same iPad configurations: 32 Gb, 128 Gb and 256 Gb.
This would keep power users wanting to upgrade to the bigger capacity versions while giving basic users an usable device.
I don't know about price ...

The Air 2 looks very attractive at the new price points. I mostly like what they did with the 9.7" Pro, but they did increase the price which probably isn't going to help sales. The iPhone is a different case, IMO. they have enough models and price points that they may make a Pro model starting at 32GB but jumping the price by $100.

Well i guess if i still want a 4 inch iPhone i have to buy one that looks EXACTLY the same as the one i bought three years ago...might as well get a 6S..thanks Apple

You can buy a similar spec Android phone for $100? Aside from the problem of it running Android rather than iOS, if that's true, these manufacturers are totally losing their shirts! (My guess, you're talking about *SUBSIDIZED* prices! Just in case you don't know, that's not the same thing as an unlocked direct purchase.)

If you're trying to disagree with me, you're failing miserably.

Who said we were talking about "similar spec"? The topic is what a "low end market" handsets is. My point is $400 is nowhere close to that market's price class, and having a smaller screen and lower price point than the iPhone 6s does not make it a "low end" device as the person I was replying to said. It's still a premium handset by any metric -- features, performance, price. The only thing it lacks in is screen measurement -- which does not define a premium handset.

"Low end" is accepted as (iirc) the $250 and under price class.
And yeah, you can get an Android phone no-contract-subsidy for $100.
Guess what? I know someone who bought one for 10 -- yes $10, new. It's an LG and only 3.5" screen. But it's running Android 4.4 and it really wasn't that terrible response-wise when I played with it. That leaves $90 free -- you can get a lot of storage expansion for that (when you aren't paying Apple's prices).

Cause it essentially is....

Can you name anything that is exactly the same between the the 5s and the SE besides the two having the same screen size?

64GB model..

Apple.com = $499 (+ tax?)

Apple.se = $563 + tax

That $64 extra on top kinda sucks..

It seems many posters from other countries don't understand that the US Pricing provided by Apple is BEFORE TAXES. The actual TOTAL price would be higher, but would differ from state to state -- because each state has different LOCAL Sales Taxes.

Some states don't have local SALES tax at all -- the Apple.com price will be the same as the total sale price. Some people in MA who live near New Hampshire (NH) will go to NH because the state does not impose any STATE sale tax. If I am not mistaken, Nevada also does not have a STATE sales tax. So, tourist to the Casinos may take the opportunity to buy stuff when in Las Vegas.

Some cities or counties will the standard State Tax that average from 5-10% of the price, while some cities or counties may charge additional city or county taxes, but the total seldom exceed 10-15%.

In Boston, MA, there is no SALES tax for certain necessities (e.g., clothing, food??, etc.) up to US$200??? per purchase and MA even has a Tax free holiday each year. The STATE sales tax for other items was 5% but this was increased slowly during the past few decades to 6.25-6.5% -- much, much lower than the VAT taxes and other taxes in many other countries, especially in Europe and Canada***. For this reason, many visitors in Boston from other countries visit the Apple Boylston Store in Boston to buy Apple products.

My sister, who lives in the UK wants me to buy her iPhone here, but the freight cost plus insurance would cost more than what would be saved in VAT taxes charged in the UK. Also, they still offer two-year subsidized phone contracts where she lives. I was surprised that what the TELCO offers her for the entire two (2) years would be LOWER than what it would cost me for the same period with AT&T.

There is also the case that many countries in Europe and other parts of the world have been more economically unstable compared to the (present) US economy, so that the US dollar to Euro (or other currencies) has been fluctuating like crazy — even the insurance taken by Apple was not enough to cover its exposure to currency fluctuations from all over the world. [Note that there were times in the past that the situation was reversed.]

As far as the EXTRA (higher) taxes, you may be paying in Stockholm (and many places in Europe), consider the social benefits you are getting as a people and country — guarantee for a better education (and tuition fee subsidies still in some European countries), heath care, government funds that may be tapped for projects that benefit the society as a whole — waste reduction, pollution control, investment to control climate change, help when out of job for one reason or another, etc.

Here in the US, even those in the Middle Class are afraid they might get sick in the family because their insurance may not cover long term care and other hospital costs. If a person loses a job in the US, especially those with a family or mortgage to pay, the short term disruption may lead to financial disaster that could lead to homelessness, suicide, and sometimes desperation that led to more tragic fate for the entire family.

So, yeah, many people still come to the US, for many reasons, including the opportunities that each individual may be able to do to improve one’s life. Also, we have lower taxes than many Western countries. On the other side of the equation consider the pittance in terms of safety nets that could help those in need; and these safety nets are gets eroded more each year. This erosion in “societal safety nets” is based on the principle by some of those in control of our governments at the local and federal level that those who rely on societal support are lazy or don’t work enough to better their lives.

So, do not protest so much

CGC

***During my first visit in Montreal, Canada (not knowing about all the VAT and other local taxes), I thought I saw a bargain shirt (much lower than the bargains in Boston), but after the local (city and provincial taxes) were added, it cost more than what it would cost in Boston. I like the shirt, so the shop owner and I compromised (he lowered the sale price so that the total taxes would be lower), the shirt I wanted (but still cost higher than what it would cost in Boston).

From my understanding the A9 processor requires 2gb on the RAM side
Yes and in addition to that the GPU, CPU speed is identical, so if the CPU performance is the same you would expect it to the exact same CPU and RAM and M9 chip

I like the look of it very much. Wish it had a 128GB option, but otherwise I am quite pleased with it and might get one.

I must say - I never paid much attention to 3D Touch on my 6S until recently, with the pending news the SE wouldn't include the 'flagship' feature. Since I've been playing with it, and especially now with the iOS 9.3 update-added expanded implementation, I'm starting to think this i something I will truly integrate in my day-to-day usage. Dammit.

Well it's good to have choices but a 4 inch phone isn't for me anymore. I've seen a lot of banged up 5s phones out there that are scratched and dented. Maybe the same can be said about the iPhone 6 series, I dunno? I wonder how well this one will hold up
