Does anyone know if phones bought in the US will work in Europe?

When I saw the price of $399, I thought: Alright, that sounds good! Let's just hope that's "only" going to be €399 ($450 - 50 more than US price) over here, but I thought Apple may be in such a good mood, it may actually even be €355 ($399 - actual US price).

But no. It's 479 over here. That's around $540. That's $140 more than the US price. Are you ****ing kidding me? Let me guess, the iPhone 5s was so successful, Apple produced plenty of new iPhone 5s bodies for the iPhone 5s production. But then they realised sales were going doing. So what do they do with all the unused 5s bodies? Of course, they just sell them for $540! What a simple solution!

I don't regret getting a 6S, but if this had been available before AT&T got rid of subsidized devices on 2 year contract, I would have bought this instead.

Also, can't wait for the iPhone SE/30 next year!

I am really impressed. Apple actually did look back and thought about its 4-inch iPhone customers and it's not only adding a new 4-inch iPhone to their product line, but also keeping the astonishing design that originated from the legendary iPhone 4. Wow. My only complaint about Apple at the moment is iOS. Too much minimalism. The UI is almost soulless compared to the old design. They just need to add some skeuomorphism in there to make it more vivid.

Just a reminder: firing Scott Forstall and making Jony Ive the SVP (now Chief Design Officer) in UI design was probably one of the biggest mistakes at Apple since Sculley.

Anyway, kudos to Apple for now. One step at a time.

I doubt that. I would expect them to update it every year. They really couldn't call this a "5" anything, and calling it a 6 makes it old in just 6 months. SE keeps it fresh until they release the "7 mini", and then allows them to drop it down $100 and keep selling it for another two years. Before they're done with it, they might be selling the SE for $199 unsubsidized, and that would be a seismic change for Apple. Meanwhile, they can offer a more flagship level 4" phone with the latest features..

well, are they going to update it in a year, or drop the price? they won't do both!

and you think they'll sell the SE and a 7 Mini? I think if they wanted to offer a 'more flagship' (that phrase makes me cringe a little) 4" phone they would've done it today. Clearly theres nothing stopping them, but they've calculated this will make them more money. The SE is for those people who wanted a powerful 4" device (hur). Apple has done the main things - processor and camera and NFC - and left the rest behind, in order to get this low price. It is aimed at the cheapskates (I am one) who don't care about gimmicks like 3D etc. The lack of anything not included is designed to drive anyone clamouring for it to the much pricier 6S.

So it appears the iPhone SE will be slightly heavier, check out the only difference is the weight. So it also appears that iPhone 5 cases will fit perfectly on the SE.

Yes, many who visit Boston from Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South and Central America, the Caribbean, etc. are frequent visitors in the Apple stores here (especially the Boylston Apple Store) to buy Apple products. Just make sure to buy the correct "system" that will be compatible with the telephone companies working in your city.

Just remember that US prices do not include our local taxes, as explained in my other posts. [I have another more extensive post here relevant to the "extra" cost you may be paying in your country. Note also that unless you or someone you know come here to the US, for other reason that will cover your fare, the freight cost and insurance charges would be higher than your total VAT and other costs, already included in the prices quoted in Europe.]

Really like this design so much better than the 6/6S design. Would be hard to go back to a screen that small though (especially from a 6S Plus).

I wish this was available when I broke down and got the 6s. I loved the form factor of my iPhone 5 and haven't been wowed by the 6s. I'm not sure if freezing is the norm for everyone on iOS 9 but that happens frequently to my 6s.

I wish it looked more like the 6 models. I already have a 5S and was looking forward to getting a phone that looked a bit different.

I want to know what's the reasoning behind leaving some features off like...

LTE Advanced
Second generation fingerprint scanner
5mp facetime camera

These features seem very basic and a no brainer to add.
These are features that the iPhone 6 also lacks, but a 16GB iPhone 6 costs $549 and a 16GB SE costs $399. And the iPhone 6 is slower with a worse camera on top of that.

I think there will be two phones, especially if they do try to get a little more milage out of the SE by not upgrading it every year. The SE will drop down the ladder, and they will have to introduce a newer model above it at some point.

I don't really follow the logic of introducing a more "flagship" phone today, when they essentially introduced a premium phone (almost equivalent of the 6s) of $250 less -- it is now the least expensive iPhone Apple sells with features above the 6, which sells for $50 more. How could Apple have both offered anything more and charged more for it? They couldn't, without introducing the "7 mini". So I disagree with your assessment that they could have offered something more premium today.

What they did do is leave money on the table. I would have spent $600 on this phone. Now I'm getting it for $400, albeit in the same case I'm already using with my 5s. And why would Apple redesign the case for a release 6 months out after the model it's based on is 6 months away from depreciation?

But, in a year, or even 18 months, the SE will track with the 6s which will also be $100 less expensive in September when the 7 comes out, and $200 less expensive when the 7s comes out. So Apple can offer some still pretty amazing technology for as little as $199 depending on how they choose to depreciate it. Meanwhile, with the 7 or 7s Apple can introduce a new smaller 4" model with the same new styling and internals, and charge a premium over the SE -- and get it. Something they can't do now with an old case design, and almost 7 month old 6s internals, which at best will get 5 months on the market as 'almost' state of the art tech before dropping down to 5c status.

So it appears the iPhone SE will be slightly heavier, check out the only difference is the weight. So it also appears that iPhone 5 cases will fit perfectly on the SE.

0.30 inch (7.6 mm)

This brings me to my second quibble with the SE, after storage limitations -- thickness. I would have really enjoyed a slightly thinner 4" iPhone since the main reason I want a phone this size is pocketability. 7.1mm would have been nice.

I am really shocked but amazed that the battery on the SE gets 3 hours more on LTE than the 6s and 1 hour more on LTE for the 6s Plus. Wi-Fi is better too than the 6s and 6s plus batteries. How amazing is that? I think that's great!!

SE Internet use
Up to 12 hours on 3G
Up to 13 hours on LTE
Up to 13 hours on Wi‑Fi

its a smaller device, so can get more performance and saving..

I bet the SE can easily stay on standby for just over a week.

True, however check out the specs from apple's website on the iPhone 5 specs for internet
Up to 8 hours on 3G
Up to 8 hours on LTE
Up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi

The specs just posted for internet usage on the SE are much greater #'s, I mean come on 13 hours on LTE that is 5 hours more on the SE battery, these are amazing figures for the SE.

I currently have the 128 GB iPhone 6 +; my wife has the 16 GB iPhone 6. While the + has worked very well for me in terms of performance (I won't mention my iOS software issues), I told my wife I wanted to go back to the smaller form factor. Quite simply, the 6+ was just too big. Well, I might have my answer here in the SE. Not only does it have the majority of the features the 6s currently offers, its back to the 4 inch display along with that build I loved when I had the iPhone 5. I'm sold on this.

Another plus for me is the iPhone SE will ship with iOS 9.3 so it will take advantage of all the added features and we as the consumer won't have to update to the latest iOS it will have the latest iOS. This is a huge plus. I just updated my 6s to iOS 9.3 and I already love the Night Mode feature.

I wish I could place my order now for the SE, why are they making us wait till Thurs and is that Thurs at midnight? if so that will be 3:00 am on the east coast.

I really hoped that there would be 128Gb version. 4inch phone was perfect size! I have a 6S for the larger storage space, but it doesn't fit well in smaller jeans pockets!

Canadian price is 579... based on today's exchange rate, 399 USD equals 521 CAD.... We got ripped off hard.. $50 dollars difference

Apple seriously just recycling old component plus some new stuff and sells 400 USD... Seriously?

It's really quite easy to update to the latest version of iOS.

I wondered why someone in the test room (all these tech website guys) who all got to test the new SE phone couldn't have done a geek bench score to find out what the ram was? I guess Apple wouldn't have allowed them to do this on the phone?
