I ordered from the online Apple store and once more.

The NEW aluminum Macbooks come with the backlit keyboard standard. Both the 2.0 and the 2.4

That's in conflict with what the product page says. They need to fix it.

A black keyboard/silver body and no Firewire....so the "new" Macbooks are a cross between old Titanium G4 PowerBooks and even older Wallstreet G3 PowerBooks?

Apple...thinking different with a mildly retarded brain.
x2 for sure.

List of Firewire devices I have currently connected:
- 1 TB hard drive for data
- Sony DVD/RW drive
- Epson 4870 flat-bed scanner
- Lexar CF card reader
- 320 GB 2.5" drive for system backups
- MiniDV camcorder for video clip imports

List of USB devices I have currently connected:
- mouse

Yeah real smooth move there Apple, dropping the most important I/O port on the machine. I would much rather they kept the FW port and dropped the USB.

This basically means that I cannot buy a new Macbook. And they call this an upgrade???.

Until apple fixes their mistake....

Well since I've already ordered it and it's preparing to ship and it doesn't have a back-lit keyboard it looks like I get one for free.;)

Because they advertised and sold me this :

Apple needs to wake up and build at least one type of laptop that is comparable to what other manufacturers are selling.

Can I ask why? They seem to be doing pretty good for themselves. I dont see BMW making cars that compete with kias......

Oh Im srry , you clearly meant they should because its what YOU want, not whats been making the company so successful.

I'd get more use out of a laptop milled out of a solid brick of chinchilla turd with a Firewire port slapped in it. Plus it would be even safer on the environment than the MacBook Amateur.

Thats exactly what I've been wondering...i believe apple has to honor its (posted) word legally right?

My take: Disappointing. I was hoping for MacBooks moving into the $800 to $1200 range. The only thing new is the case, new video port and lack of firewire. As a trend in the computer industry overall, laptops are going down in price & increasing in features, neither of which applies here. Like I said, disappointing.

I already have a Mac Pro for our primary machine and it will last years. I was hoping to get a cheaper MacBook to replace our Acer laptop, which is only used for surfing/email. The new netbooks by Dell and Lenovo for around $400 look better all the time, and they are almost cheap enough to be replaced every 1-2 years.

yes its backlit i just checked the configuration it states backlit english keyboard :D sweet!

But according to the Compare Specs on Apple's website, the illuminated keyboard is standard on only the $1599 model.

But if I build the $1299 MacBook, the illuminated keyboard comes standard.

WTF!!

They look so awesome. But I don't know why I feel so disappointed. If I look at the price it has a worse processor and lost a FireWire.

Agreed....wtf happened there?
I thought they were up to lowering the price to compete with the continuing lowered prices from HP and Dell.....and they have Firewire still.

Indeed we do! Don't forget, the Plastic model now has a SuperDrive. What astounds me is that there is no FireWire connection in the new MacBook models, but there is on the MacBook Pro.

How does that not make sense? Firewire is needed by "pros", why put it on the cheaper computer when you can make them migrate to the top end one?

That's an awful analogy. Those are two completely didn't market groups. If apple really wants to improve their market share they should have dropped the price of their older now out of date macbook by more than $100. They seemed to shortchange people who are going for the new models too by not including firewire which the old models do have. Firewire isn't just needed by pros, that's just trying to justify apples weird decision. Plenty of devices use firewire, people shouldn't be forced to pay $400-500 more to get one port.

*Points to the now $100 cheaper $999 model with F400 and superdrive.*

Thats hilarious "ordered from the online Apple store" which country US? UK? etc.

Sorry... US store

Not according to "An illuminated keyboard, a popular feature of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, now comes standard on the 2.4GHz MacBook model."

Only the US store right now is saying the 2.0 model has the illuminated keyboard. It is a typo.

It wasn't a typo on the order page and if it was I get a free upgrade because they are bound legally to sell me what they showed me.;)

Seems like there market shares been doing pretty damn well for itself with the way apples been running itself.

Again, the FW fiasco is to push those who want it to the MBP.

Will this give us full speed FW400 AND another USB2.0?

I did a google search and found This. Anyone know if it works as a true firewire replacement?

Reading what card format? there are too many of them, I know that some laptops have multi-card reading capabilities, but I don't know many people using them. Get an external card reader, cost close to nothing. Franky, your problem is a no problem, there are way more serious flaws with the new macbooks.

Its a problem for me!
I use my camera, make lots of pictures and want to upload them fastly and easily when im on the go.
I dont want to carry even more rubbish with me just to upload something.

Same steamy pile.

9400 is an integrated chipset. Don't let the 9 and 4 fool you. I may actually prefer Intel because it is proven reliable.

I spoke to multiple other apple stores that said they were shipping today, and they would be in the store tomorrow or the next few days...But I am still confused...Why does this article state that they aren't shipping until october??? ANYONE KNOW?

uhmm it is October already

Sorry... US store

i guess macrumors demi-gods are only demi-omniscient. jk, peace, i hope you got fooled into getting a free upgrade.
